Funny how the ONE PERSON your spoiler jokes are aimed at, was the one that responded crying about your spoiler jokes.

I had to put him on ignore for my blood pressure.

I don't think they've been shown on screen yet. It's just a butcher and a rat catcher in the Red Keep. Daemon bribes them both to kill one of Aegon's kids in return for Luke's death.

Honestly the actress who plays Helaena portrays her like such a sweet innocent person that I am not looking forward to that scene at all.

Yep, that scene is setting up to be BRUTAL. Helaena is portrayed as a very young, innocent mother, and easily the most likable of all the children on that side.

Give us a reason to hate Helaena. I already hate all three bc they are Alicent's kids.

One other question...when did they do away with the "ball in plate" tradition of the great council meetings? Was it w Robert Baratheon?

No way to know. But that would be reasonable, as Robert (one would assume) did away with all the extra swords surrounding the throne and the dragon skulls lining the throne room, etc.

One thing that pissed me off about Alicent was her removal of the Targaryen heraldry and replacing it with symbols of the faith of the Seven.

I'm a big fan of the Targs and that's just sacrilegious.

He probably ate a couple of them while drunk and did away with them.

So who had the Sept built since what we see of the coronation is in the Dragon Pit? Baratheon as well? No Targs would have built it.

Yes, it was built by a Targaryen king named Baelor, who was devout in his faith, though prideful about his devotion. He was the 9th Targaryen king.

When Tywin is asking Tommen what makes a good king, Baelor is one of the examples he uses of a bad one.

Ah, I see. I think I'm going to read the book over winter.

I'm laughing at how people are debating the Targaryen disdain for commoners in the other thread… not knowing that it's going to cost the dynasty most of its dragons

"It doesn't make sense!"

It will, padawan. It will.

Poor show watchers not realizing that there's more Mysaria and her terrible Jamaican accent to come

Is it Jamaican? It sounds like non-native French to me but I have some kind of foreign-speech deficit.

Episode 10 leaked. I haven't watched, but apparently book readers are not thrilled with the writers.

Not sure why I'm spoiler tagging something on the spoiler thread, but…

Aemond and Luke lose control of their dragons and Luke's death is apparently an accident more than anything else

Blood and Cheese to come in season 2

Won't vouch for these myself, but what I read online.

If that's the way they choose to go, BOOO!

But how does Aemond bite it?

I'm excited that this moment is making the finale, even though it's a different Kingsguard knight.

What a stupid change to end it. Re: the spoiler tagged stuff of leaked season finale.

Not sure how I feel about them changing it to be almost an accident (although how much of an accident is it really?). It does make the dragons that much more dangerous though which could explain everyone being reluctant to always go to them by default.

I will say I'm disappointed we didn't get a glimpse of Winterfell at the end (saw memes saying it would be included).

I actually don't hate the change.

Always thought it was weird that some random Baratheon chick giving Aemond sass about Lucerys (why would she even care?) was the fuse that set him off and made him a kinslayer.

They name dropped Cregan Stark and said he's closer in age to Jace than to Rhaenyra. I know all the art makes him look like this grizzled mountain man in his 50s but I'm expecting a fairly young actor to be cast as the Lord of Winterfell.

Is it really a change, so to speak?

How could anyone on the ground back then actually know what happened up there? I haven't read this far in Fire and Blood so I may be asking a dumb question--for example if Aemond came back and said "yeah I murdered my nephew, woohoo!"

But if it's like everything else in the book, it's just unreliable reporting from some people who were around back then.

I just watched episode 9. The show writers have made Alicent much more likable.

Spot on. Fire and Blood rarely presents one version of an event and it's perfectly in line with historical interpretation for a secondary historian with multiple primary sources to still get the reality of an event wrong.

The show follows the book's version up until Lucerys is leaving. In the book, one of Borros' daughters taunts Aemond, telling him that Luke must have removed his balls as well as his eye, which sets Aemond off. This event comes from one of the more pro Black historians that the author cites, but that never made sense to me because what beef does Borros' daughter randomly have with Luke?

All we know is that Aemond takes off, kills Luke, and returns to King's Landing. All accounts of the fight come from people who saw it from the castle of Storm's End.

After that, the book presents multiple versions of what happened to Luke - either he was knocked off Arrax and died in the ocean, he was eaten by Vhagar, or that Aemond found his head, cut out his eyes, and presented them to the Baratheon sister who taunted him, or that Luke fell, survived, and lost his memory and was seen living as a simple fisherman for the rest of his days, as his body was never recovered.

Per the book, Cregan Stark is a year younger than Aegon II.

Finally got to watch E10 last night - Astros game ended too late on Sunday. It felt short and I wanted to see more... which I guess is a sign of a good show.

I like the uncontrollable aspect of the dragons - the major fault of this universe when dragons are present is the constant "why not use a dragon?" solution to most problems.

Overall I thought S1 did a great job setting the table and explaining the stakes. Looking forward to a much more action packed S2.

Agreed, I was hungry for more, as well. Gonna be a long wait till season 2.

You touched on something GRRM has talked about regarding magic, but it applies to dragons to some extent, as well. You have to be careful about how you use such things in a story or they become problematic for a number of reasons, and you touched on one.

In this case, they actually have used a dragon to solve problems where/when possible, including conquering the realm in the first place. It's just that in the case of this particular problem, both sides have them. And they understandably do not want to burn down Westeros in the process of securing the throne.

The show has done a really good job of setting up the dragons as an uncontrollable ally that is now about to be used for purposes that do nothing but decimate the dragon population. I think over 4 seasons they'll be able to cast a really strong forward view of why the dragons end up dying out. Not quite karma, but more of a - you've squandered your gift, and now look what has happened. Sort of like the message of the Lorax when they keep destroying all the natural resources with the undying belief that there will always be more.

The last scene of the last episodes should be the last dragon born being tiny and weak and dying, and the Targs realizing their days ruling are definitely numbered.

Alternatively, I would lvoe them to time jump and tell lots of other House of the Dragon stories - both forwards towarsd Robert's Rebellions and backwards to Old Valyria

I would likely enjoy pretty much anything set in this world, but I'd much prefer they dispense with prequels and move onto post-White Walker Westeros.

There will always be elements of suspense and surprise missing from even the best prequels.

But I know I'm not gonna get my wish, as everything I've heard they're working on is prequel in nature.

I've been a huge fan of GOT and now HOTD. So I decided to order the books and start reading. Do y'all recommend started with song of ice and fire books then Fire and Blood or do you think starting out with Fire and Blood will be more beneficial since it's chronologically first?

Personally, I'd read the main series first, then follow it up with the Dunk and Egg stories before Fire and Blood (and World of Ice and Fire if you're feeling particularly bullish). Others may disagree, but I feel like that's the most natural order. You can also join us in cursing GRRM's name as we wait for the now apparently 3/4 done Winds of Winter and 0% done Dream of Spring.

Do keep in mind that Fire and Blood is written as a history instead of a traditional narrative, so it can be a bit dry.
