100% instantly recognizeable voice.

Appropriate too since I believe approximately 63% of all black and death metal bands have names from Tolkien works.

I don't think I've seen this mentioned here yet, but does anyone think the sorcerer in the East that the Stranger is going to face ends up being the Witch King? I believe it was known he was previously a sorcerer and while speculated he was a Numenorean I don't believe there is any official confirmation of that so the door would be open.

This season has continued the increase in quality from season 1.
Its not going to be an elite show, but I dont think I need every show I watch to be the best show I have ever seen.

I don't think so. Witch King is a man wearing a ring. Sorcerer in the East is probably a Maiar.

I'm pretty sure we all know what's happening next episode. While we will not like it if they do it right my guess it will be one of the best in the show. Similar to how GOT did some episodes.

Great season and finale. Big jump up from season one.

Last stand of King Durin was really well done. Durin vs. the balrog would look awesome painted on the side of a van.

The evil wizard mentions 5 wizards (also called Maiar). We know those are Gandalf, Saruman, Radagast, and the Blue Wizards: Alatar & Pallando. Which of the five is the evil wizard?

Elendil gets Narsil! Hopefully everyone reading this thread knows the significance of that sword.

Acurate prophecy from dying Celebrimbor

Great use of Dutch angles every time Sauron was interacting with Galadriel. Using the crown as a weapon in the sword fight was something new and different I haven't seen before. It made a great weapon.

Second time someone has taken a Fugitive style dive of a cliff for the rings. Elrond did it earlier this season

Absolute best part of this season was Sauron seducing everyone. Hopefully we get more of that next season with him corrupting men

At the end we see Sauron with a hammer from Celebrimbor. That is Feanor's hammer that was used to make the Silmarils. We'll probably see it again in the forging of the One Ring.

The Hobbits called the Stranger Grand Elf which was changed into Gandalf, confirming what we knew all season. In real-life Tolkien derived the name Gandalf from Gandalfr, a dwarf in the Völuspas Dvergatal, a list of dwarf-names. In Old Norse, the name means staff-elf.

Bombadil said "Wizard does not find his staff, it finds him" which sounds a lot like wand lore from Harry Potter

The brother mentioned to Prince Durin is Nain, Probably spoilers for next season if you look up his name.

I wonder if that valley the Elves ended up in becomes Lothlorien. The place Galadrial rules over in LOTR. It is near Khazad-dum geographically.

Great score at the end and throughout.

To be fair the side of a van is a pretty fun medium to begin with.

I started to correct some of the spelling but realized the letters with accents were deleted. Volusp made it through though.

I'm only 30 minutes in but why the heck would King Durin leap to his demise like that? He had to know he was committing suicide.

Sometimes you just gotta do **** that looks cool.

Like Jon Snow pulling the sword with a thousand dudes charging at him. Doesn't make any sense. It just looks badass

Balrog next episode?

I don't believe that's quite lore accurate, as Durin's Bane is called that for killing Durin VI, but they've sure been building it up, and we know they're compressing the timeline.

Well, there it is. Before the credits even.

Really excited to see how exactly Sauron gets the rings back. I assume we're either getting a Sauron vs Galadriel showdown, or Sauron vs Adar.

Yep and yep.

Great finale, and pretty solid season.

Glad they finally confirmed Gandalf. But now I'm a bit confused on the Dark Wizard. There's only five wizards, and he can't be Saruman, since he never turned until the time of FOTR, and he's definitely not Radagast, so the only Istar he could be would be one of the "Blue Wizards". I guess they want to keep that a mystery, even though it's the only possibly? Probably just should've given him blue robes to begin with.

Elrond's arc was probably my favorite of the season. Having to finally accept the rings to save Galadriel's life.

Can only hope the viewership is enough to justify another season. A lot of things I'm looking forward to seeing, like the founding of Arnor, Gondor, and Rivendell. The fall of Numenor. And of course the Last Alliance.

Also surprised they didn't feel the need to force in a scene at the end of Sauron already giving out rings and/or already starting work on the One Ring. That probably shows confidence that this is going at least another season or two.

That wouldn't make a lick of sense of them joining forces later.

I get that they were never subtle with Gandalf but this one is definitely misdirect imo.

I think what likely happens is an eventual showdown between Gandalf and the Dark Wizard, with Gandalf defeating him and leading to the arrival of Saruman to Middle Earth to replace him.

Who's the wizard hanging out with the "Grand Elf".

The Celebrimbor arc was pretty tragic. Such a brilliant mind being twisted to perform work that will be used for treachery.

Adar being killed by his "children" right after telling Galadriel he forgives her and talking about future peace between the elves and orcs.

Very solid story telling this season.

You're talking about deviating from source material, which they've already done plenty of.

I'm saying it contradicts the show we're already watching.

Two different things.

I will take that bet.

I would guess Rivendell. Elrond called it a sanctuary, which is what Rivendell was. Also, I don't think they had time to cross the mountains to the East without already going through Khazad-dum.

The one he was singing with and having tea? Tom Bombadill, who only is in the books. It's a little weird for me that he is in the show to guide Gandalf, since he was always described as mostly aloof and not really caring about the goings on of the people in Middle Earth

The show has really deviated from a lot of the known timeline. For example, I'm pretty sure Galadriel and Celeborn are already acquainted and in love (if not married) at this point in the 2nd age. The show is like, "yeah, but...this would be fun to do instead."

Balrog was cool, but doesn't make much sense. It's gonna just take the single dwarf and go back to hiding for another 2,000 years?

Don't get me wrong, I think this season was pretty great. Sauron flitting back and forth from friendly to deceit to outright malice in a lot of scenes was done well, imo. There is a lot left for them to explore.

Well no the Balrog kills every dwarf left in Kazad Dum then hangs out there with his goblin buddies waiting for Gandalf.

I took it that the cave collapsed again imprisoning it, not that it went back into hiding.

Exactly. The king sacrificed himself for his son and his people. I mean dwarfs.

Right which is why I said made no sense. Others referenced a cave in, but if this same Balrog that ends up wiping out the dwarves, wouldn't it mean in about 1 or 2 generations they forget what happened and mine back into that cavern releasing it?

My initial 2000 years was an arbitrary number I picked.
Brian Earl Spilner

Yeah, the actual event that wipes out Khazad-Dum is not until the time of Durin VI.

I don't know the history of Durin III off the top of my head (the King in this show), but I'm thinking this was a show creation to have a big event involving the Balrog in this show.

I actually thought it worked pretty well.

I think the last few episodes of last season and all of this season were pretty good. I was a little bummed that it was over. Watching Sauron torture poor Celebrimbor was good writing. I'm actually looking forward to next season.

Also, Isildur is still the worst. He's basically the villian in this story for me. At least Sauron is clever, strong, and entertaining. Isildur is weak, cowardly, bumbling, and boring. And yes I'm aware of his future, and I'm hoping his terrible portrayal is on purpose
