Oh, yeah, the kid. I like him more now after Galadriel gave him her sword, so he seemingly has a new purpose of sorts/has been forgiven, but it had been rough sledding up to that point.
They gave him that haircut for a reason, and its so we can know to hate him.

We sure he isn't hiding some pointy ears under there?

That was my FIRST thought in the pilot, but had forgotten about it until now.

I was so fed up after the last episode but this one at least had some action. I don't know how I feel about it, need to sleep on it.

Why would Galadriel not stop the alloy process since it all was spurred on by Halbrand/Sauron? Wouldn't she think it was all for a nefarious purpose?

"But they were all of them deceived" and Galadriel whinging in the flick about Isildur, "who had this one chance to destroy evil forever, but the hearts of men are easily corrupted. . ." has been rendered self-serving prattle, which is funny.

Elrond, Celebrimbor, and especially myself were easily deceived, because the hearts of elves are effortlessly manipulated. I had many chances to destroy evil forever, but instead succored Sauron and brought him home to meet my friends, while later blaming Isildur for everything.

I'm surprised she could even look Aragorn in the eye.

The elves are convinced they still need the mithril in this form to stay on middle earth. The "elves need mithril" plot is pulled out of the showrunners butts, but it does work well to add urgency for the elves, which is needed in the compressed timeline they decided to use.

I wonder if this show will keep it's audience by the time season 2 comes along. Strip away the "hey isn't it cool to be back in middle earth again" feeling and there just isn't much to this show.

It's really not well written and it takes a lot of stupidity for this show to get where it wants to go.

You can't do this though, so yes, there will be an audience.

As someone who could not care less about ancient canon, or how long it supposedly took in the books to ride from one location to another, that was an incredibly satisfying first season finale. To see how Sauron and the rings came to be was exactly what I didn't know I wanted from a show like this.

Galadriel "just keep swimming" moment is going to draw some heat but totally agree. I love this show.

Did Halbrand and his family invent stainless steel?!

Very entertaining season, some dumb moments here and there notwithstanding. Including Sauron suddenly undergoing a personality change in the final episode. Read the books, enjoyed the lore, feel like the show did pretty alright. Definitely could have been worse.

And I guess Galadriel stopped the elven rings from being corrupted in the nick of time.

Also, Sauron ended up saving a couple of people who would become a pain in the ass to him in the future in that one battle eh?

By the way cultists are really dumb as ***** And I skipped over the hobbits endlessly saying goodbye. Ideally they don't appear next season.

Missed "precious" opportunity there for Celebrimbor when fired up talking to GG. Based on his tone I totally thought it was coming. "This is a power of the Unseen World. It is precious!"

Pretty fantastic use of the sunrise as it's familiar in similar situations, and in this case cementing the goodness of the stranger.

Finally, for all that whining about Galadriel's looks, even the Dark Lord wanted to wife her, how much more do you need?!

The scenes with Sauron deceiving the smiths, making the rings, pretty interesting to me. I can't believe they jammed it into one episode. I wish we had had more of that, especially since it's such a critical part in the whole history of Middle-earth.

This show has been surprisingly good. Not quite Andor, but better than house of dragons.

I'm a little bummed that they all three ran at the same time.

In addition to that, I'm pretty sure that part of Halbrand's description of Galadriel was exactly the same as what she tells Frodo after being offered the one ring.

(rewatched to grab the below quote)
Quote:

I would make you a queen, fair as the sea and the sun, stronger than the foundations of the earth
and in LOTR
Quote:

Instead of a Dark Lord, you would have a queen, not dark but beautiful and terrible as the dawn! Tempestuous as the sea, and stronger than the foundations of the earth! All shall love me and despair!

There might have been one other line that I felt was ripped directly from the trilogy in there as well but I forgot, I'll keep an ear open for it during a rewatch. I liked those callbacks though.

There was also this

Quote:

"When in doubt, Elanor Brandyfoot, always follow your nose."

From Fellowship of the Ring:
Quote:

"the air doesn't smell so foul down here…If in doubt, Meriadoc [Merry], always follow your nose."

Enjoyed that.

I was glad for the Sauron fake-out, even if predictable, if only because of the way they did it with The Stranger would've been super anticlimactic.

Some cool nods to the trilogy, with Sauron saying the same words Galadriel would later repeat to Frodo when he tempts her with the ring, and The Stranger saying Gandalf's line of always following your nose.

Also that final shot of the three rings is identical to the one in the prologue of FOTR.

Overall this was pretty much just a wrap-up of the season, and I know there'll be complaints about it being slow and not much happening, but I thought it was cool seeing this Tolkien lore come to life.

Still have no clue what they're doing with Isildur, hopefully it's not something like he's been trapped under a pile of rubble all this time.

Also, anyone notice we have two pretty much identical scenes in HotD and RoP in back to back episodes? (A dying king confusing someone for their daughter and revealing secrets to them.)

I think it was a solid finale and setup for S2.
