Are there really that many LOTR fans bashing it? I haven't really been paying attention on this one because it's been good enough that I don't care.

I know WOT was getting spit-roasted by episode 3 or 4, and deservedly so. And even with that Amazon has renewed it for what, 2 more seasons? So ROP should be beyond safe right now.

I mean look no further than this thread. Except maybe the RT audience score. (Review bombing.)

It got bashed so heavily on release for ridiculous reasons I doubt ratings will ever recover, but they get plenty of viewers so doubt they care.

I don't really consider this thread to be a good sampling of the general population.

No truer line was ever stated in cinema than Tommy Lee Jones in MIB: People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals.

Other than a lack of female view points this board is pretty balanced between those who have a lot of critiques and those who are easily entertained.

I actually trust the Texags vibe on shows more than the random reviews. Only thing I don't gel with is a lot of humor preferences, but comedies might be the most subjective form of entertainment that is pretty personal.

Eh, I think this thread does skew somewhat towards people who like the show, because we do love to yell at folks who dislike it to, well, not post.

Case in point, I loved Rogue 1 and enjoy Andor, but thought it was kinda boring until the last episode. But not much reason to post it in that thread where clearly many love it more than a mosquito-less summer.

If you look at just this thread for this show...I get where you're coming from. However, if you consider Obi-Wan and Boba Fett...this show is getting more love b/c it's a better show. Those 2 shows got slammed for all kinds of problems. Perhaps this one is getting more love than it's earned because those 2 shows were so disappointing.

The problem is looking at things as either: Hating/bashing and Loving.

Would this be a serviceable show on the CW, and one I would watch? Definitely. But with the IP they are pulling from, along with the budget, I expect better.

I personally put it at the same level as Obi-wan, but better than The Book of Boba Fet. It's entertaining enough that I will continue to watch it, but it has a lot problems. What is even more frustrating is how many of my critiques seem fairly obvious, but these people who create this kind of show for a profession seem to be okay with overlooking them.

I would say the general consensus of the ET board is that it is watchable and even sometimes enjoyable, but we have may critiques.

So, do a poll on ranking the show from 1-10. would be surprised if it got over a 7 average. I would put it at a 5-6, depending on the POV.
redline248

imo, 5-6 rating is a below average to bad show. below 4 is utter trash, like real housewives. I would say this is 7.5 average

We aren't grading a paper. It's not A, B, C, D or fail.

I would probably stop watching something that I rank below a 5. To be honest, I wouldn't watch this show anymore if it was not based on The Lord of the Rings.

There hasn't been a complete Star Wars/marvel/fantasy show recently really. Mando sits on top of a large pile of mediocrity and even that has a lot of bad pacing and meh episodes. The highs of Mando do make it totally worth it though. BoB was completely carried by Mando. Most of the marvel stuff has been entertaining enough but mediocre.

I think this board has become more accepting of mediocrity because we take what we can get from these IPs. LOTR sits in that 6-8 mediocre range as well. I think this last episode brings it above a lot of other recent shows for me though. Will see where GoT takes us but hating the storyline so far, excellent dialogue and production value can only take us so far.

As for the show, can someone explain how Waldreg got the hilt? Presumably from Adar, but how did Theo know where it was after Arondir told Bronwyn he wouldn't tell anyone? (Adar just pulled the ol' switcheroo after Theo gave it to him?)

I did like the moment when Adar corrected Galadriel with "Uruk" after she called him an Orc.
Lathspell

I'm sure Adar gave it to him after he heard the attack, and knew they would zero in on him.

As for how Theo knew where it was, that was definitely a plothole. But who cares? We have flashy flashy cavalry charge and big fire and ash explosion that the masses eat up!

They showed him stalking Arondir when Arondir went to hide the hilt. Arondir was telling Bronwyn how no one can know where it is and then they cut to Theo following him.

Theo was clearly intending to get it right back if/when they survived the Orcs. He was Charlie on Lost when he finds Mr. Eko's heroine. Ain't giving that **** up no matter what Locke says!

Adar tasked him with it as he was coming out of the building. He said something like waldreg, come here I have a task for you.

The Last Kingdom is highly under rated from the standpoint it was able to draw in and hold the attention of the unintended audience (i.e. wives/spouses). ROP has not been able to do that. I sold it to my wife as TLK but even better, but now I've lost all credibility. I wish I had her watch HOTD instead with me (wasn't going to throw too much at one time). This has very much been a C for me.

Pretty funny to try to poke holes in the show to try and ridicule "the masses" who enjoyed it, only to fall on your face showing you clearly didn't pay attention.

Yes... one small thing out of many. They were still charging to the aid of a small village like they knew exactly what was going on. There are plenty of plotholes in this show.

I don't feel so bad for missing how Theo knew where the hilt was. He was at the beginning and end of the scene with Arondir trying to destroy the hilt (13:30) for a total of five seconds, only one in focus, watching but never following.

And the "I have a task for you" scene with Adar and Waldreg (30:30) also lasts about five seconds. Adar sure did fool Galadriel and Halbrand by pretending to desperately crawl to reach the axe.

I gotta pay better attention…

I couldn't understand why halbrand and Galadriel didn't unwrap the hilt as soon as they caught agdar to see what was so important, especially after the elf told her that she had to prevent its escape.

I know they were blinded by their hatred for Adar but yeah that seems weird to not care at all.

It does make those scenes better though, because I would imagine you are definitely not alone in not catching those moments watching it live.
But they are there, so when you rewatch or go back and watch, its more obvious. Its good storytelling.

Now why no one ever opened the cloth....because they needed the mountain to explode

It was stupidly plot armor.

I get it, but it would have played better if they had opened it immediately. Flash to Waldreg making his way to the tower.

It's tough. That definitely would have been the smartest play plot-wise, but what we would have lost in return is the great scene in the barn between Galadriel and Adar, in addition to the false sense of victory the celebration in the village gave us. Writing this kind of stuff is a constant compromise/give-and-take, and in this case, I think they made the best decision they could, given the circumstances. IMO, the thematic delivery in the barn alone was worth the lack of logic in them not unwrapping the blade before the big reveal.
