Also, that shot of the water hitting the lava rivals the shot of Gandalf and the Balrog falling into the depths of Moria. Truly epic stuff.

Doesn't make much sense with his title being "witch king of angmar" as Angmar is between the Blue Mountains and Rivendell, far away from Mordor and the southlands.

He doesn't make it to Angmar until the Third Age.

Halbrand has gotta be the Witch King.
Disagree. He might be, but it isn't guarenteed.

I don't see Halbrand as a Nazgul either.

That would be a weird character arc for a guy who wanted to kill Adar.

Due to the compressed timeline I bet he does become one of the Kings who gets a ring of power.

I mean there's a lot of show left to go. I think it could make for a great arc if done right.

He would still have to be corrupted by the power of the ring which comes way down the line.

But even if he's not the Witch King, I think he's a prime candidate to be one of the other eight Nazgul. You don't set up such an important character without tying it into the lore, imo.

Who were the people who showed up at the Strangers crater? (Either last episode or the one before) They looked awfully sus.

But after this episode I do believe Halbrand is more than what he is letting on. Loved this episode btw.

They looked like humans, to me...but I guess they were wearing hoods so we couldn't see the ears

I do think it's kinda funny that a disgruntled geriatric bar keep is responsible for Mordor

Well that was a very entertaining episode.

i was wondering if that mountain was the volcano. Lol, question answered.

The ending went a bit over-hollywood imo

no one is going to survive a pyroclastic flow like that, so the whole story should be over….oh well, maybe she pulls a gandalf and comes back as the tall thin glowing elf beauty we expected. But how the hell did elindil and isildur make it out?

It was epic, agreed. But i dont know if i've ever seen anything as epic as the balrog stuff. Those scenes alone were oscar worthy.

So who built the watch tower? Did the elves take it over? Why was it built with a mechanism to destroy it and blow up a damn, or half the mountainside, or whatever was holding the water back?

It's insane that we have this show, Andor, and House of the Dragon, all at the same time. And after this latest episode, it's clear that all three have so much passion and talent behind the camera. We are truly spoiled. This is such a good era of television.

The one you see crouched down, with the bright blonde hair and ice blue eyes, screamed "elf" look to me.

I finally felt like we were dealing with real Numenoreans in this episode. Who can say they don't love seeing a cavalry charge?

I do wish there was better storytelling in the earlier episodes to explain why they went directly to this small village. Is this the only village in the Southlands? Is there one entrance to the Southlands, and this is the first village in their path? Again with one of my problems with this show. Chase the eye candy of a cavalry charge of Numenoreans without explaining plotholes.

I think the whole plan of the Orcs was to dig the tunnels to make the volcano blow.

Watchtower was prolly built by bad guys and just taken over by elves.

I think it just controlled the water flow. Adar had the plan to send it to the mountain to create the reaction.

Wow what an episode, I was actually a little surprised by the violence when the First Lady got her neck immediately sliced. They went pretty dark with it this episode with a whole lot of death. Love the grimness of it and the dire situation Galadriel realizes is about to happen.

Far far better than any storylines GoT has come out with yet and this just absolutely craps on WoT.

They could have shown them all mounted up and moving inland after landing, and just a scene where they have advance scouts leave before the main army.
Then the next time we see the Numenoreans they are charging to the rescue, and thats an easy jump in logic to make without ruining the 'surprise' charge

That would have worked, or show them traversing the mountain pass and seeing smoke on the horizon, causing them to charge to aid (similar to Eorl the Young coming to Gondor's aid).

That felt very... choppy? to me. Other than that, I enjoyed the episode. It looks like next week is going to slow down. Though, they seem to be foreshadowing the dwarves digging too deep and finding the Balrog. This seems a little early to do that, seeing as Mithril was such a huge part of Khazad-dum for a long time.

Just finished watching last episode with my daughter. Initial thoughts

1) Have to defer to the sountrack master of LOTR (BES) but I definitely thought there were some notes from the LOTR main theme when they first saw Middle Earth from the ships. Very cool.

2) I love Arondir's fighting style. They've made him his own unique thing.

3) Somebody on this show's fight coordination team loves having people get beaten by chains.

4) Great points all around about Galadriel's darkness/arrogance, and you even see it when she speaks to Arondir the second time around and treats him like just a common soldier. The knowledge they could share between them is enormous and she totally blows him off.

5) My minor gripe is that all the people in the keep would not have given a rat's ass about Bronywn surviving the arrow to the shoulder because there were 50 billlion orcs outside.

6) Adar took on a real Benjamin Linus from Lost quality when he got captured. His words, true or false, are even more dangerous than him leading an army of orcs.

7) If the battle #s look small, I'd suggest at some point watching The Last Kingdom on Netflix. I binged it with my wife this summer and really had to do some reading on how little most battles were, and how plenty of times in the middle ages it came down to - they've got 35 guys, we've got 25, we're screwed.

8) Guy who commented that they wouldn't survive the "pyroclastic event". They don't live on Earth, man. They live in a place with magic and dwarves and elves and orcs and hobbits. Things can work different there.

9) Galadriel with the Arwen FOTR callback and hitting the turbo boost on her horse!

10) I never thought for a minute they'd capture Adar, that was great.

11) Him saying he opened Sauron up makes me think of Voldemort splitting his soul into pieces to become stronger in Harry Potter. A certain point of view truth to throw them off the scent.

12) I think most of this board is going to LOL when the Harfoots roll up on their winter staycation destination and it's all soot and lava.

Judging from the map the queen regent was looking at on the ship, Ostirith was on the same path from Gondor through Minas Morgul (or whatever it was called at the time) into Mordor. So I think it was the quickest path into Mordor for the Numenorians and they happened upon it.

If it's there I missed it. But I will say the main little hook of the title theme is almost the exact melody in ROTK when the ring is destroyed.

Here:

Which makes sense since Shore composed it.

Are there really that many LOTR fans bashing it? I haven't really been paying attention on this one because it's been good enough that I don't care.

I know WOT was getting spit-roasted by episode 3 or 4, and deservedly so. And even with that Amazon has renewed it for what, 2 more seasons? So ROP should be beyond safe right now.

Been watching this weekly so far.

It's boring AF so far.

We are only still watching because we are hoping there's a pay off. But each week is harder.
