My wife (who is not a Community fan) could not figure out why I was laughing so hard when Britta showed up in Ep. 6.
Yep, I immediately said "Oh, Britta's in this?"

Haha, I said the same thing.

just finished the season...so so good. after watching fishes, i was a little concerned at how they would possibly follow up such an amazing episode, then i watched forks and was just blown away.

2023 has been a pretty awesome year of tv.

This show nails the little and big ways that grief can sneak up on you out of nowhere, and how everyone has to find out how they relate to each other and themselves when a black hole has opened in the middle of their solar system.

We just binged both seasons over the last week and Forks was genuinely one of the best episodes of TV I've ever seen.

Forks was great (not as good as Fishes IMO)...my only (minor) beef with it is that IIRC Richie was only there for a week...and we're supposed to believe on Monday/Tuesday he's disgruntled and polishing forks, and by Friday he's this savant who is chumming it up with the entire staff. Just seemed like too tight of a turnaround...just a nitpick.

i honestly had a similar initial reaction...but if you think back to where he was in fishes, he was trying to get out of The Beef and be a part of something else. if you believe (like carmie did) that richie had all the pieces to be really good at it, then i could see things turning around pretty quickly for him once he got out of the way and let it happen.

In the finale when Richie called him "Donna" and he flipped out...I totally felt that. Quickest way to get under my skin and make me lose it is to call me by my mom's name as a dig.

Just finished The Bear last night while wifey was on a retreat with her quilting coven.

I hate to watch great shows with anybody who's not on the same page as Iam so her absence was a gift even tho I didn't get laid last night.

So many thoughts have already been expressed and I share 99% with you guys. Great shows
are like that.

If you haven't read Anthony Bourdain's, Kitchen Confidential, go do it now. So many nuances from his book are splintered in with the occasional sledgehammer.

Carmy getting trapped in the walk-in was brilliant as it not only created a claustrophobic air to go along with e extreme stress, but also was indicative of Carmys life in general. He's always been trapped.

Who says Carmy and Claire are broken up? Seemed like a a fight and possible misunderstanding as he didn't know he was talking to her. He was a bit out of his head at the time. I don't believe it trumps the fantastic moments they had together. And I'm a hopeless romantic: they stay together. Fight me.

These characters have so much range and charisma that there are many storylines that can develop without watering down the show: let's do it again; season 2 > season 1. Could season 3 be > then season 2?

PS. Bob Odinkirk was off the charts. I think he channeled the a-hole uncle from Home Alone that picked on Kevin.

What was the significance of the chocolate banana that was given to the uncle? I missed what that meant.

In Fishes (flashback dinner episode), the uncle explains to Richie's wife a pleasant memory of getting chocolate bananas with his father.

Just shows that Richie remembered that story and that the uncle would appreciate it

I just realized that if he had made the spaghetti for family dinner he would've found it episode 1.

Sorry for a page two comment, but my wife and I just binge watched season one yesterday. Like a good book, we couldn't put it down.

If you recall in an early episode he started opening a can and threw it in the trash. How much $ was in that can? They also left one can on the floor in the finale.

I'd think you'd not miss a can on the floor!

Loving this show so far. We will start season two tonight.

I love to cook for family and friends and this show reinforces why I would never want to cook for money.

Stopped reading at the end of page four until we finish season two.

Chicago Italian beef is pretty plain. Tried it with sausage, peppers, etc… no joy.

Been to Portillo's over a dozen times in the Chicago area and prefer the beef hotdog with mustard, tomato, sport pepper and nuclear green relish. Visually unappealing IMO, but damn good.

Living South of Houston it was a treat for me on Wednesday to be North of Dallas and went to the Portillo's in the Colony. Then coincidentally get home yesterday and this show about Italian beef and the hotdogs at the Xanax party (Hilarious!!) was something that my wife insisted that we watch.

Great show so far with season one. Be back soon after season two

I think that can on the floor was showing the LTB stamp or whatever initials the brother had in the ledger

Finished Season 2 last night. What a fantastic show. I wish I had watched season 1 when it came out, but I was stubborn and didn't think it would be for me. As others have said the 2nd half of this season (7 Fishes through finale) were just really perfect TV.

The only character I didn't love was Syd. I feel like she shows she's a great cook, but she doesn't ever really grow in terms of leadership or becoming a head chef.

I agree, she gets kind of annoying at times with her going on and on and trivial stuff. Also, that place had very few tables and she was freaking out as tickets came in? She didn't handle that well at all.

Also, what was up with those 3 people standing in the kitchen along the wall? They didn't run food, Richie and Fak ran food. Thought that was odd. Send them to get forks!! Ha

We just finished season two. My wife looks at me and said "that's how they ended it? Wtf!"

Lots to unpack. I hope it's been long enough to not need spoiler tags.

Terrible way to break up with someone. Ugh!

Marcus' missed calls. Ugh

JLC not coming inside and Pete's way of handling it. Ugh

Just finished season 2. Wow, season 2 was really a work of art at times. The Fishes episode may be the best episode of television I've seen this year. I have never really thought much of JLC…good or bad…but between this and Everything Everywhere, she is having a moment. Her performance was so painfully devastating.

Great season. Incredibly well done.

I totally think they stay together but for a different reason. I can't remember what episode it was but Cicero pulled Carmy off to the side and told him that it was all on him. If he didn't keep his eye on the ball, it was going to fail.

It seemed to me at that moment that he was going to take it all on, even the pressure to get a star for Sydney. He gets locked in the walk-in and everybody proves that he's taught them well and they are in this with him. This event shows him that he can have both. Something he ought to be able to figure out by looking at Claire, she's a freaking ER doc.

Good sandwich!

So you walk in and it all looks like the place in the show. We sat in the big room where they have their family meals in the show (no Widowmaker game). A girl came and was wiping down the table. I asked, "so do y'all sell shirts or anything?" She replied, "you know, I'm trying to work on that. I've emailed someone and we're working on a design. Hopefully I'll hear something back next week."

Not very opportunistic.

Just binged season 2, was waiting for my wife to get back into town.. I think y'all have covers it all, just fantastic television. As many have said, Forks was my favorite too. When RICHIE RAN to get the pizza and asked if he could serve the table I just lost it. Until season 3, "I wear suits now"

This was not me read on it at all. I think she knows how abusive she is a just can't help it.

It's why she had the feel to stay away from the entire night. But wanted to come poke her head in and see them.

OMG- just finished season 2. Phenomenal show! From Fishes to the end of the season was some of the best television I have ever seen. So much to relate to- family issues, anger, failure, disappointment. Crazy how so many characters redeemed themselves/found their calling. Yet, the two main chefs, Carmie and Syd, are still fighting their demons. I actually had tears in my eyes during Forks- so great!

Once you realize they haven't cut, it immediately hits you that they're not going to cut, given the 20-minute runtime of the episode, and you're just in awe from then out. It's also one of the few times the one-take thing actually feels 100% organic to an episode, and isn't just a show-off thing, because in the same way you're wondering how an actor isn't going to bungle their lines and screw the whole thing up, you're *also* wondering how a chef isn't going to bungle a task and screw the whole thing up. It's so perfect, so impressive, and so incredibly well done.
We're just now getting into this, seen all of Season 1. But we're getting commercials now for some reason. And sometimes they're dropped in weird places that interrupt scenes.
