I'm thinking at this point in Saul's career, he's only tangentially tied to Mike. Any contact to the salamancas has been positive (?) and no ties with Gus. So what does Lalo expect to get out of him?
When Jimmy went missing, Kim went to the jail and talked to Lalo. He knows something happened to Jimmy out in the desert, and he is close to piecing it all together with The Chicken Man.

One thing I'm confused on is the timeline with the mediator. Did he say that he stopped at the liquor store before the meeting? What time was the mediation? Seems like if all that happened in one day that they wouldn't have enough time to pull it all off.

Package stores in NM open early? For sure it seems somewhat rushed and that has to be a very late afternoon meeting.

He said he got into town and stopped at the store at 10AM. If the mediation was after lunch, that's a ton of time.

Outside of the kid in the desert on the motorcyle....is there anyone in this universe that deserved to be killed LESS than Howard?

I mean Andrea was associated to the drug world, albeit tangentially. But Howard just did nothing to deserve that.

That was tough.

Currently 9.9 on IMDb, and well deserved. Amazing episode. I'm just surprised anyone felt the need to warn viewers that tonight wasn't constructed as a finale, because it sure as hell felt like one.

Howard soda scene was a foreshadow. Twist the can (twist the silencer on) so it doesn't go POP (so the gun doesn't go bang)

Ha, started a little later than I had hoped (had a work call and then had to wait on my pizza), but just finished and...

WOW WOW WOW

I think my favorite part of Howard's rant just before his shocking death was that it was as if the writers had been reading this very thread and then wrote and filmed that monologue just last week. Howard addressed basically every concern expressed here over the past six weeks, as to the "why" of it all, and it was just so damn good how the writers knew those questions would be out there, but then used them to their advantage in making it all part of Howard's mental breakdown as well.

That, and I loved that we all basically thought Kim had doomed D-Day by rushing it, but no, they actually pulled it off... and then something much, much worse happened. What doomed them wasn't screwing up, what doomed them was succeeding.

Man, this show is just incredible, and I could not think of a better plot point to end on, as it pertains to message board fodder over the next seven weeks.

You know what's sad, after all howard has been through he was talking about bouncing back, guy never quits and then the unimaginable happens

So what do they do with Howard's body?

We know that Saul isn't arrested for murder, so they have to dispose of it some way. No tubs of acid around either.

Best guess is they frame it to look like he got shot trying to buy drugs, then having to further sully the reputation of a man they just destroyed.
Mike's first appearance on TV was Saul calling him, and him showing up at Jesse's to clean a dead body.

Saul's calling Mike.

You brilliant liar.

It was the writer/director

I still don't think he necessarily lied. Especially considering his follow up tweet where he confirmed that it was the next episode that Odenkirk had his heart attack while filming. I just don't think this guy would play around with that kind of info.

Also, if meant to be 13 consecutive episodes, I'm starting to think that the first ten episodes (a traditional season) - meaning the next three as well - are all part of one story (the 2004 BCS/Kim arc), and that the final three could then be the Gene endgame potentially?

Plenty of time? Remember Saul had to get everyone rounded up for the new photo shoot, get the photos developed, and then delivered to Howard before the mediation. It's doable under that timeline but I certainly wouldn't say a ton of time.

That the phone was bugged. He heard a little click and that made him suspicious enough that something wasn't quite right. Hence the lie he told his uncle, since he knew Gus and Mike and co were listening.

That the phone was tapped. Remember when Mike played the tape for Gus? That's why he called back and said he was going back to Plan A which was attacking Gus directly that night. That's why Mike pulled all his guys off lower priority targets such as Jimmy & Kim's apartment.

That's how broadcast still works (ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX), and that's how certain cable channels worked only until a decade or so ago. I used to have to wait all the time. Then AMC, FX, and the like all finally started airing everything simultaneously.

I think the best compliment I can give this show is that we're almost never right when it comes to predictions, but then after the fact we're left with a sense that things couldn't have gone any other way. Which is just so rare and incredibly hard to pull off. Especially in the reddit age, to somehow avoid prediction but to then make the plot feel inevitable as it does is a "grift" all its own.

Just finished tonight's episode a few mins ago.

Mind just completely blown!

My wife is already asleep and I'm here wide awake with my heart pounding…. So many things to say, but first: this is the best television (and BB) I have ever seen. I used to say that Ozark was a second to BB and BCS was third but after Ozark completely botched their ending and tonight's episode….it's these two and there is not even a close third.

WHY CANT ALL TELEVISION BE THIS GOOD?!

Anyway on to the show:
So, Ive never felt that Howard deserved any of these elaborate schemes. I recall being infuriated with how Chuck looked down on Jimmy and tried to hamstring his legal career, and Jimmy still caring for him and putting up with his bizzare phobia despite all this. Howard didn't have 1/10 the resentment toward Jimmy that Chuck did…and yet Howard got this treatment?

The most profound thing that happened with tonight's episode is that it made me MUCH less sympathetic to Jimmy and Kim. Like i see them in a completely different way now (I know they didn't have anything to do with Howards death, but everything leading up to that) I hope this breaks Kim mentally and she goes off in a different direction without Jimmy or that she meets a grisly end.

Howards speech in the apartment got to me and the way he let Jimmy duke it out with him in the boxing ring…he tried to be a good sport about it all.

BTW not sure how anyone is sympathetic to Lalo…even without the murdering he comes off like a used car salesman/child molester with that god awful mustache.

We know chicken man lives, so heres to Lalo killing Kim and Gus killing Lalo.

Saul's calling Mike.

I think there is a chance he also calls the vet since he knows about the little black book. Somehow that leads to Saul obtaining the book since we know from last week that the vet wants out and Saul wants it.

Holding onto my prediction more than ever that Kim lives, she and Jimmy get a reunion in Nebraska in the Gene timeline, but that it's fleeting and bittersweet. Especially after tonight, I can totally see them having a quick, shared moment or even just a glance that speaks volumes, in a sad, what-could-have-been way, had they not gone down this path.

(This, after I literally just got done saying that the best compliment I can give this show is that it always avoids prediction, and I'm sure that'll be no different in this instance come August.)

So we just got our BCS equivalent of Hank's realization on the toilet. Not too much of a similarity tonally or story-wise, but sure sets up the beginning of the end.
