After a rewatch of episodes 1&2, I'm now convinced that Lalo's proof is going to be Nacho. Mike says as much, and if Mike thinks Lalo is after Nacho, so do I. When Gus met with Hector, Gus tells Hector they are also after Nacho. Later in the episode, Mike takes the call from Nacho and tells him "it's not my call." My theory is that Mike is going to convince Gus that he should go get Nacho. Gus will want to turn over Nacho's corpse to Hector and the cousins to appease Eladio and in hopes that the Salamancas back off. Mike lobbies for Nacho's dad safe harboring and Gus agrees. Going to suck, but Mike is going to have to kill Nacho, but Nacho can die in peace knowing his dad is not in danger.
Man if that turns out to be true that will be one hell of a sad scene, just like when Mike had to kill Werner.

I'm holding out hope that Mike finds a way to rescue Nacho and get him out of town.

No joke.

The first 2 episodes were f-ing solid. Breaking Bad level quality.

The problem with this, is that it wouldn't appease the Salamancas. They would assume Gus ordered it and killed Nacho to cover their tracks. And they will say "why were YOU able to find him and not us?" and "if you knew where he was, why not tell the Salamancas so that they could get their revenge (and the truth) themselves?"

Of course the Salamancas will continue to suspect The Chicken Man, that suspicion aligns with the tension between the two groups in BB. Gus will have some excuse for how they found Nacho and why they had no option but to kill him. It will be good enough for Eladio but the Salamancas will continue to hunt for proof Gus is working against them. Which is why Lalo will be going to Germany, after Nacho dies, to track down the workers that built the lab and get them to cough up information about what they were really building for Gus. That is going be Lalo's plan B for proof after Nacho ends up dead.

How do you think it's going to play out?

Two things that make tonight's episode particularly exciting...

- Gould calls this episode "shattering."

- Hopefully settling the is-Nacho-Lalo's-proof debate.

Either way, it's been I-don't-know-how-long since we've had a series where it feels like I have to watch the second the episodes debut, as to not risk being spoiled. Even vague Twitter reactions tell me more than I want to know.

Must See TV is back!

Does Lalo know anything about the lab and Germany? I didn't think he did.

Personally, I think what will happen is that Gus will send Mike and Tyrus to go get Nacho (since he can't trust Mike to do it alone). Nacho will do something to CYA himself against Gus. Like leave a note somewhere that the Salamancas would eventually find that implicates Gus. And when Mike+Tyrus catch up to Nacho, he tells them about his CYA and uses it to arrange safety for his father and himself. So say something like "help me escape and I will tell you where the CYA note is." Gus would refuse the deal for the father, with the implication to Nacho being "if you talk, your dad is dead." Nacho agrees (because his dad wouldn't come anyway) but says that if anything happens to his dad, he will send the Salamanca's the truth. He then demands that only Mike help him escape (not Tyrus) and Gus agrees. Mike somehow arranges the escape, and promises to keep his dad safe. And that is the end of the Nacho storyline.

Just my guess.

Lalo knew the name Werner Ziegler and was able to find out some info on what the project was.

But then in S5E1, Gus covers his tracks and claims Ziegler was building a new chicken chiller.

So if this series sticks the landing, it is far and away the most successful TV spinoff of all time, right?

Only competition I can think of is Frasier.

And btw, based on the actors' interviews, and given all of the creators/writers' resumes... I have absolutely zero doubt this show will end well. Which is not easy.

There's definitely a confidence from the cast that they stuck the landing.

And to follow up what many consider to be the best series of all time with a spinoff almost equally revered is even crazier.

The Jeffersons was a spin-off of All In The Family and was very successful in its own right. Of course comparing an old sitcom to a current drama isn't really fair or easy.

Between Better Call Saul and Laverne and Shirley, Michael McKean is the undisputed King of Spinoffs (as noted by Guinness book of world records).
