Meanwhile my eyes are puffy.

There's a lost art in streaming. You don't scroll the see what's "on" and say hey yeah that channel. I wanna watch that again.
With streaming you lose the surprise.

It says nothing about me. Cable shows have been replaying Maverick. That says more about them than me.
But he sets up Maverick with the Russian and all the while lies about the money he's earned. I just think it's comical.
Sorry. I still have satellite tv. I don't stream. I've rewatched or caught in the middle Maverick too many times the last few weeks. Not a coincidence.

Correct his best roll was Dances with wolves, but I really liked him in Thuderheart as well.

And if we're gonna critique the casting, having the Bosom Buddies guy as a union general was clearly the worst.

James holding Elsa as she died really did a number for me. I can't imagine that with my daughter.

I'm waiting for one of the Encyclopedia Browns of the thread who hate the show (yet continue to watch it and post here to let us all know how bad it is) to chime in on the fact the Eurasian Collared Doves weren't in The U.S. until the late 20th century. Because you know, that's super important to the story.

I thought it was a good season finale and am excited about Season 2.

I can't say I didn't notice this and comment to my wife.

But seriously what a show. It was powerful, emotional, fun. Incredible.

Dances With Wolves did the same thing, My wife and I joked that maybe that movie was how they were introduced into the wild. I chuckled again when we saw that last night. Great show. I'm going to miss Elsa.

I would have loved it if they ended it with a house being started on the land and then a quick cutaway to the present day spread on the ranch. Same with the upcoming show, end each season with a quick tie in to present day and then when Yellowstone comes to an end you can do a quick montage that ties all of them together as well.

So no one but me thought it strange when Elsa returns to Indian "Sam" when she dies, but not her first love cowboy Ennis who's already dead.....wouldn't it make more sense for them to reunite in the afterlife?

So is 1883 returning for year two ? I guess there's a lot of story to be told but isn't a new series coming out called 1923 or such which tells the story of John Dutton's dad and him as he was young ? Sheridan is staying busy with Yellowstone, 1883, Mayor Of Kingstown, 6666 series ...... that's a lot of irons in the fire.

Also producer of Landman, Lioness, and Tulsa King. Paraamount+ paid him $22M to develop new shows. Busy guy.

Didn't she marry Sam? That makes way more sense than Ennis

She was as married to Sam as she was to Ennis. There was no ceremony. She and Ennis didn't get married because he got shot first.

I thought the same, "hey, where's Ennis?!" Then I wondered whether Sam was also dead.

He also just announced four more new shows he's developing (in addition to 1932):

They've announced that there will be more 1883 content, but they haven't said exactly what that will be.

Loved the show. I had high expectations given the subject matter and I would say those were met and exceeded.

My only nitpick -- and it's a small one -- is that the timing of Elsa's love affairs with Ennis and Sam seemed unrealistic and turned the middle section of the show into more of a romance than an honest look at the journey. In fact, Elsa's whole romance with Sam seemed forced; a too-easy plot device to showcase the native way of life more and keep them from always being bad guys.

I realize she was the central figure in the show, but the focus on her love life turned attention away from the struggles of the wagon train and the immigrants -- which had made the first few episodes so powerful.

Generally agree it became too much about Elsa in the middle. I wonder if during production they realized they had a budding superstar in her and decided to feature her more. The one thing it did do was help turn the story line away from the immigrants and more toward the Dutton family which was the feature/main subject matter of the show.

Seems pretty clear that one of the main points of the show was to create a deep connection between the Duttons and the land that would become the Yellowstone. Having Elsa die and pick her burial plot on the land certainly advances that narrative.

Not at all. As I clearly said in my post, I realize she was the central figure in the story (and a good one). But IMO, the relationship with Sam was forced and a distraction from the overall story.

I'd agree but I also remember the Crow Indian telling James that in 7 generations his people will come back for the land and James said "In 7 generations they can have it."

Not so much forgot as wishing it wasn't all about Elsa.

Agree completely. I thought that they actually did a good job with the first boyfriend… only to turn around and have her feel the same way about another dude shortly thereafter. I think it's a legit gripe. I also thought the show was pretty good overall despite some iffy stuff.

.

(1) Things change. (2) My guess is that passing comment never becomes part of the family's oral tradition. Be a little weird if four or five generations of Duttons compiled this enormous ranch, all the while reminding themselves that they will just give it back if the Indians who were there first ask for it because their great, great, great granddaddy said they would.

And I'll also add that I think the comment was more a reflection of the times. What happens 100+ years from now is the last thing he was worried about while trying to keep his family alive in the wilderness.

Great show and I am looking forward to 1932 to continue the Dutton story.

I'll admit I was much more affected by Shae's death that Elsa's - we had been preparing for hers for a couple episodes.

I think the acting done by Isabel May (Elsa) was fantastic. Her non-verbal acting and expressions when reacting to fear, devastation, anger, confusion and joy were top notch.

Any 1883 viewers who are eagerly awaiting another 10 episodes in the life of the post-Civil War-era Duttons will be waiting a long time, the series creator says in a new interview.
"I created this peek through time to show you this one specific journey," Taylor Sheridan tells our sister site Deadline. "I'm not someone who likes to tie everything up in a bow and explain how everyone lived happily ever after, or didn't."

He adds: "On to the next peek through the window," a reference to the Yellowstone franchise's recently announced 1932 prequel spinoff, which will move ahead several decades and follow the Dutton family during the Great Depression.

1883, "for me, as a storyteller it feels close-ended," the EP also said. "I'm going to peek through the window of a different era and see what I see then."
Sounds like 1883 is done and there won't be a season 2.

my wife and i both commented wow that was quick when she fell in love with Sam. i think they did a poor job giving us a timeline. maybe it got cut in editing. we'll never know.

Oh I know. We binged the last 3 episodes up until last night.

The tornado/Sam episode was weak.. Really weak. Like... why did we need to have her fall in love with the first guy she saw... again?

just seemed unnecessary. She could've just as easily been the woman scorned and taken an arrow from the Lokotas.
