Elsa will live.

Remember when John Dutton got shot up in Yellowstone? He went to sit in the hot springs to heal. Didn't he say his people had been coming there for years for their healing powers? Perhaps Elsa makes it to the future Yellowstone Ranch and partakes in the healing powers of the springs.

I love it and if Sheridan doesn't do it you need to be hired on as a writer - Vince Gilligan level call back.

Not that kind of healing.

And what's to say that Elsa doesn't need to dip in that spring periodically? They would HAVE to stay there.

Could be referring to James. He was shot and came home falling down in one of the Yellowstone flash backs. I keep wondering how Margaret would've survived as a widow with two boys. She would not have.

Bingo. Again, Beth stated that Dutton women have a history of dying young. And James said they make home where Elsa dies.
The magical springs are for James and the boys I think.

The show started out strong but these last couple episodes were weak imo.

I call bs on the "Germans". Out of that big group of Germans only Josef and the gypsy lady & her two sons made it out alive? I looked it up, the mortality rate for people migrating west on wagon trains was high, but the folks on this trip had a particularly hard time of it. Worse than the Donner party, and they got stuck in the mountains at wintertime.

Is Sam in the closing scene because that is Elsa's version of Heaven or is he also dead?

Too bad about Shea.

Wonder what will become of Josef and the two cowboys, Wade especially.

All in all, I thought it was a good show. And Tim and Faith did a much better job than I was expecting.

While I understand that it needs to retain some historical accuracy to make it believable, I don't get all of the nitpicking on here. It's a TV show. If you want an accurate account of wagon trains, there are, no doubt, plenty of books that can provide that.

I'm waiting for one of the Encyclopedia Browns of the thread who hate the show (yet continue to watch it and post here to let us all know how bad it is) to chime in on the fact the Eurasian Collared Doves weren't in The U.S. until the late 20th century. Because you know, that's super important to the story.

I thought it was a good season finale and am excited about Season 2.

I loved this show. Taylor Sheridan has a knack for telling the story of the American West - both modern and historical. Yellowstone is campy and fun, but both Hell or High Water and Wind River are grittier and equally as fantastic. They all tell the struggle of the independent spirit of the west v. the invasive spread of "modern" America.

1883 wasn't perfect, but it was great mix of camp and historical accuracy. Western migration was alluring and promising for the poor and displaced, and Sheridan shows that. At the same time, it was brutal and dangerous. River crossings, bandits and wildlife really were significantly more dangerous than Louis L'amour and John Wayne lead us to believe in their romanticized version of the west. Sheridan did a great job of blending those things for modern American audiences.

My prediction for season two - Sheridan will fast forward ten years to show what it was like for a 17-year old John Dutton coming of age and for James Dutton navigating the conflict between independence and (political) power in a freshly minted state.

I have two daughters. I'm it afraid to admit that scene with John holding her under the tree absolutely gutted me.

So was Lonesome Dove, which was arguably the best western ever made into a movie/series.

I'm reading Lonesome Dove right now (nearly finished), and it's probably why I think most of the last couple episodes were corny and unrealistic.

I thought it was silly that James took the Indian's advice on where to settle, but was easily willing to say he'd give it up in seven generations. Is that supposed to be foreshadowing for Yellowstone losing their ranch? At least they didn't have Elsa live from some magical native American healing.

I just had difficulty with Elsa's character over the last few episodes. Her selfish, know-it-all attitude was a hard sell for me. Picking the spot for their ranch was more important that spending the last hours of her life with her mother and brother?

I will admit James holding her at the end got me emotionally. I also thought Sam Elliott taking his life on the beach was sad. But damn this show started off really strong (thought it was easily the best show on television) and then got sloppy at the midway mark imo. The finale seemed rushed as well.

Oh well, all in all I enjoyed the show. But I enjoy most westerns even when they aren't particularly done well.

Naysayers be damned.

Loved the show. Don't care about the nitpicks (even mine about immigrants getting all that crap to FTW).

It was a very well done story just not the story some wanted. But I was enthralled and emotionally invested. Loved so many characters. and it was gut wrenching in the end.

Graham Greene. Not sure why you used the quotations….he's an Indian.

Interesting you chose Maverick. I'd have gone with Dances with Wolves or Wind River or any of the many other movies that he portrayed an Indian. Yours may be the weirdest "gripe" yet.

Seriously he has played in 30-50 movies as a Native American but you pick the ONLY comedy role. Got an Oscar nom for Dances with Wolves too.

Says more about you then about them choosing him.

It says nothing about me. Cable shows have been replaying Maverick. That says more about them than me.
But he sets up Maverick with the Russian and all the while lies about the money he's earned. I just think it's comical.
Sorry. I still have satellite tv. I don't stream. I've rewatched or caught in the middle Maverick too many times the last few weeks. Not a coincidence.

Blaming your basic cable package for your earlier comment is definitely a first.
