According to the pioneer Wikipedia article, crying with tears didn't become popular until the early 1900's in Texas. Sheridan is keeping with historical accuracy.
Will anyone actually make it to Oregon? Folks are dropping like flies. I'm bummed about Ennis. His character was one of my favorites.

Another thing about Episode 5 not brought up yet: how about sticking Josef and his wife out there as bait and easy pickings? I know they did it to smoke out the bandits, and Josef got the double barrel in the wagon, but that could easily gone bad...almost did! What if all 6 had rode up? I know that McGraw and Co had to ride away to make it look real, but their timing seemed late and almost backfired ....don't know many men who'd put their wife out there in that situation....made a tense scene for sure!!
Poor Josef's wife after the attack, "Why did you bring me here?" Damn that was tough. Excellent episode.

My only complaint is typical of TS but he needs to back off on the death and despair for an episode or two.
I know it's a tough haul and things aren't easy but we need an episode or two or easy traveling, maybe some time in Doan's where everything kinda relatively settles down. This death and despair every episode is a bit of a beating and can get out of hand quick.

As of four episodes prior, Josef also didn't know how to use a gun. So that was impressive.
I think it was mentioned that they were 3 weeks into the trip.
3 weeks is plenty of time to learn to use a shotgun. Hell you could learn to use a shotgun in 3 hours.

Dad gave his permission to Ennis to "court" his daughter. His problem was when Ennis decided to "screw" his daughter.
