Yes. It's a Stripped 58. They made it before they started doing the McCarty 594. The draw to me is the controls are in the typical PRS position. In the 594 they're arranged closer to a Les Paul.

Edit: I assume you're talking about the one I just bought and not the other two that are maybe for sale. Those are as well, but figured I'd cover my bases.

The old blue was nice but the new one is super sexy. Me gusta.

Supply chain issues - they aren't just for chip manufacturers.

Ordered a gig bag last month when I ordered my Sire S7 guitar. They said it would be a few weeks. It's been a month and was supposed to hit the Sweetwater warehouse today and then go out tomorrow. Maybe get it over the weekend but probably early next week.

When I called Sweetwater to ask about the status of the order, "Heaven" told me it looked like it could be late summer or early fall.

"What? It was going to be a couple of weeks and now it's going to be three months?"

Heaven: "I don't know. I'm not a gear person. Let me transfer you."

She puts me on with a guy that says they were expecting a shipment today that had not yet arrived, but did I want to consider a different gig bag or case?

No, I want the one I ordered. It looks good, reviews are good, and price was good.

It's a freaking gig bag. Some canvas or nylon and some felt and padding and some zippers and some straps. No tubes. No chips. No pickups. No power supplies.

Really an odd thing to be so late.

If you need electric guitar strings for under $4 per pack, here you go.

Just snagged a used Tone King Gremlin off of Reverb. I've been watching them as a great travel amp option, and just happened to offer what I believe is a great price and was accepted!

Nice.

Seems like prices may have hit the breaking point. Stuff started flying off my watchlist this week. I've already seen some deals since I bought my guitar that are nuts.

Just missed on an Imperial MKII, but they've been coming up frequently.

Yes! I bought the PRS SE Singlecut Tequila Mockingbird suggested. Offered $360 and they took it.

I'm sorry, I *thought* I had put a post on here thanking y'all for the help! I'll post pics if I can figure out a hosting app again. It's tobacco sunburst, in case you don't recall.

I'm messing around with Marty Music lessons on YouTube. I'm trying to stay with his beginner series in order. It's more basic than what I already know from my old lessons, but i think the path is right to get beyond the rhythm/strumming chords where I topped out before.

My electric fretboard is narrower than my old acoustic, and I sometimes have trouble with my finger muting the next string over on some chord shapes. It's frustrating watching guys on videos making it look so easy and being so slow/awkward. Fortunately, i remember going thru that learning curve way back when, so I know things get better. I just need to find time to practice more. I've been bad at that lately!

You have better self control than I do. If I had already decided on one, I would have already purchased it.

I was looking through a reverb for a guitar that's similar to the one I just got that had been for sale in Canada last year. I was curious if this guy had gotten it and was selling it. I couldn't find that one but I did run across the listing for the guitar I just bought from a different seller a month ago in Edgewood, TX. I guess I'm repatriating it back to the state.

How have rockers not hid their drugs inside their instruments before?

Putting it in the case is not enough.

New strings arrived today. I took advantage of that Stupid Deal of the Day recently and with the deal discount plus some kind of rewards points I had from previous purchases these ended up being $2.80 per pack.

I'm not going to find electric guitar strings cheaper than that, or at least not any I've heard of.

It has arrived. And for once the great color in the pictures was completely true to life and not manipulated with photo settings.

The minor dings are actually a lot less noticeable than they were in the pictures too.

It goes will the other blues. The purple may be the odd man out. I also think selling a guitar and being able to say it just has normal wear and tear and dents and dings for a 20 year old guitar will be more palatable than having to explain a six inch finish crack that you can't really see unless you know it's there and look at it at the right angle.

What is this "Selling a Guitar" concept you speak of??? Never heard of that before...

It may or may not actually happen. We'll have to see.

Technically I still have the purple. Now that I'm gigging again I may be able to swing keeping it. I did sell buying this new one as I was going to sell one to cover it so that may be touch and go.

I do also have varying shades of brown.

Oh jeez... it's late. I looked at that picture and the moment I saw the Aggie helmets, there was a brief millisecond where I thought, "Oh damn, is this guy an Aggie too?" I'm getting old and briefly forgot what site I was on.

I do really like the 57/08 pickups in this one though. Bridge and neck have solid tone. Definitely a lot different than the #7s that were in the purple one. I hated the bridge pup in that one.

Heading to the music store.

Need new strings for my les Paul. Play mostly blues and metal. Any recommendations to bring out the brightness?

Also, let's talk chicks with picks. I have used the green dunlops for years. Anyone try anything different lately that they like? I like the finish on the dunlops and doesn't slip out easily

I've used Clayton picks for years. They have a non slip model, but the water slide decal on their regular picks warms up once you start playing and gets tacky so slippage isn't an issue.

I decided to quit being lazy and try to figure out which pickup in my Epiphone wasn't working for certain. I hadn't picked that one up in a bit. Now they both work. I've done nothing but stare at it a couple times.

Now, I did determine I wired the switch upside down so the bridge pickup and neck reversed on the three way. I'll probably just leave it.

Hey yall! I wanted to ask the experts on this board a few questions regarding DIY guitar kits.

For background, I've played guitar for about 20 years, but my heaviest years of playing were from 06-12. I did some minor gigging/recording, but those days are long gone. Nowadays, I'm more of a campfire guitarist. I just learn a few songs for family get-togethers. Recently, I have had a renewed interest in playing my Les Paul-style axe, and I have the setup and the time to commit to it a little bit more than I did in the past.

Anyway, I've always wanted a strat-style, but I've never had the cash to spend on a new guitar. I've had the same guitars since 04-05 when my parents purchased them for me. However, what's intrigued me recently are these DIY guitar kits. It seems that they are reasonable, some have decent reviews, and the prospect of putting a guitar together and being able to play it sounds exciting. I'm really into cooking, so it's a similar high to me.

It also seems a little intimidating. I wouldn't want to spend a few hundred only to not be able to put the thing together.

  • How much expertise do you need to put together one of these kits? I'm obviously not a luthier, so I don't want to have to do any fret leveling or major soldering (minor is okay, I could figure it out). In a perfect world, I'd be able to screw the parts together and be good to go, but I'm not sure how reasonable that is.

  • Any recommendations for brands to look at? Brands to avoid? Any specific kit recommendations would be great.

  • There's also an aspect to this of saving money. Seems to me that they are taking out a lot of the work of putting the guitar together, so I hope (perhaps naively) that the parts I can get are of high quality. But, if the parts aren't any better than what I could get purchasing an already-built guitar for the same price, then obviously at that point it's not worth it to me.

Any overall advice, even if it's to deter me, is sincerely appreciated. I'm intentionally leaving the budget out because this is still hypothetical. I'm just here to learn. Thank you!

My only experience has been with Warmoth guitars. For those, I wouldn't necessarily call them kits and I definitely wouldn't say they're cheaper. Their value is more in getting woods you couldn't otherwise get for the neck/body and the ability to fully customize. They'll be cheaper than the same specs from Fender but not cheap in actual dollar amount. It's also worth noting that they don't come with hardware. You're buying a body and/or a neck. They do handle frets though and can do the finishing.

For any of the kits though, you could always get the kit and then buy tuners, pickups, etc to put in it that you want.

As far as skill level goes, you really just need to be able to solder and use a drill and other basic tools competently. I don't know of any that don't come with frets unless you request that, though depending on brand they may need work.
