Walked away thinking I need to get in better guitar shape to even try out guitars.

So today, went by Gruhn Guitars, and was a nice laid back experience with The Rib. Afterwards she asked me if I was in the market for a new guitar. I said always!

I tried out a bunch of the Tele's and a Strat just to level set. I seemed to gravitate toward the JV Modified 50' reissue with the soft v neck and the Ultra Luxe both in Tele.

I can pick either up in Dallas, which avoids the uncertainty of shipping. Would love to go looking with at least one of y'all as wing man so I can hear how a Tele is supposed to sound in talented hands.

By the way, totally off topic, but a few buddies and I went to the A&M vs Iowa State game played in Ames back in the late '90s. (Shane Lechler saved the game for us with a 60+ yard punt in the waning minutes.) After many beers, I started making up names for drinks.

Tequila Mockingbird was one. Horny Redhead and Sinister Grin were two others that I can recall. We challenged bartenders to make drinks to fit the name, but all it got us was drunker!

Mine came in. It has a cosmetic flaw that may prevent me from keeping it.

Slap a Cocaine Anonymous sticker over the flaw like George Lynch would do and keep playing.

I think I have this issue somewhere.

Unfortunately it's between the neck and fretbard around the 14th to 16th fret on the bass side. It likely left the factory that way. I'm mainly concerned about resale value if I ever decided to sell it down the road.

Was the seller a store? You may be able to get some money back from them if that defect wasn't disclosed.

There were a few performances I wanted to see. But once I got my loot I decided to hit the road.

I have to say it turned out to be a good thing that I changed my mind and went to the guitar show. There were actually some deals to be had.

I looked at some Mojo Tone Quiet Coil P90s, and they were offering them at a little over 25% off. I wish I would have taken advantage, especially since they're backordered just about anywhere you look.

One of the coolest things I saw was a Les Paul Junior that had a B bender professionally installed in it. Sadly it was about $500 out of my price range.

As a side note, on Friday I had gone to the Tone Shop and for the first time I've ever been in there I was kind of bummed. They've always been real cool but the guy I talked to this time was pretty dismissive. I guess maybe I looked like a poor tourist or something. I had gone in with the intent of looking at the Reverend model that I wound up buying at the show, but he said they had sold the one they had earlier. I also asked about the green Anderson the DallasTeleAg had talked about, but it was gone as well. His reply was "well we're a happening store, you snooze you lose". Any other questions I had were met with an attitude as though he couldn't be bothered because he was too busy surfing the internet or something. Disappointing to say the least. After I bought the guitar at the show I thought about going back there with it under the pretense of trying out an amp or something, but I didn't. Oh well.

Not sure I'm into the heavy relic guitars but I would not throw one out if it was gifted to me!

This is my problem with buying a used custom shop guitar on Reverb. I don't want to buy a guitar that looks completely beat up. For me, the relic'ed guitar thing only becomes a draw when you actually play the guitar and realize it feels, plays, and sounds so great.

I've always found the process they go through to relic them interesting but haven't ever had a desire to own one.
