Not quite the same but I did get a new amp!

Portability was a big driver in this purchase.

Not new guitar day for me but I figured the guitar enthusiasts may appreciate this. My buddy I've referenced a few times is out in LA recording a new album with Mike Campbell & the Dirty Knobs as we speak.

Look what he was playing two days ago. Insane.

ETA: That picture sucks for some reason. But it's Petty's actual Rickenbacker that resides at Mike's studio.

Hmmmm...that one is different. I haven't gotten the full story yet. He also was playing a Martin 12 string that David Crosby gave to Mike that Campbell posted about on his IG. Buddy posted that he was just trying his best not to drop the thing.

what is the infraction? (since I'm still a newb on this thread--is there a list of rules?)

There is only one rule on this thread.... well 2.

1. You do not speak of your lady without posting a picture.
2. There is no drama.

The positive grid amp

It was a joke because of the tube vs solid state discussion a while back

I actually was looking at the pos grid last week

Like I said. Portability is huge.

Spark Mini

There are several videos out there on it. Fewer knobs/controls than the Spark 40 so you have to use the app to tweak your sounds.

I haven't been able to play with it much because I've had too much going on and my guitar time I have available each day has been for practice.

Wow thanks for the video. That amp might be exactly what I have been looking for.

Right now I have my Line6 PODXT from the early 2000s. Does it work great? Yes. But in 2023, I believe the wires, cables and the fact that I need to connect it to a PC for sound patches has become a nuisance. That was cool back in the day but now I have a IPad and can just connect with that Positive Grid for instant EQ

I strongly considered the larger model Spark but the ability to run off of battery and stuff this thing in my backpack or overnight bag is a huge plus.

The Yamaha HTR series was also a consideration. I really like it and it has a lot of great features but for the price this is what I need.

Also, there is a guy with a YouTube account called GuitarZeroToHero or something like that. He has some good reviews and tips on the Spark.

Just looked it up on their website. All those features packed into that little box is amazing. Unmatched

I remember going to Ralph Macchio concerts when I was younger

Ha! That was a good scene from the movie Crossroads. Didn't remember that Steve Vai was his competition.

The full competition was great. Arlen Roth was the guitar teacher for Macchio. Just to help him look like he knew what he was doing.

If you read Circus or Hit Parader back in the day you saw ads with the Arlen Roth guitar course.

I think I recall one time you said you had owned (or do own) a Fender Bassbreaker amp. Was that you? And if so, which one? I'm curious about the Bassbreaker 7. I've tried the 15 and thought it was pretty cool.

I have owned a Bassbreaker 15 and 30r.

You'd have to go look at some reviews online, but I thought I remember reading something about the 7 and 45 having some nuances that a lot of people didn't care for. These were issues that were fixed with the 15 and 30r, I believe. Both of those amps were great, but the 30r had the footswitchable channel selector, whereas the 15 had a knob on the panel to change channels.

It's now been a few years since I last played one, though. I just remember it had a great overdrive channel, and had a good high gain channel, for a Fender amp.

I've since gotten very boujee, and have two boutique amps.

I know some of you guys loved those Olive ES-335s. Thought this might tickle your fancy.

They sure are going up in price. LP Classics were only $1,900 just a couple years ago.

I'm not a fan of those pickups. They are the same that was in the ES-335 Olive drab, which I did not care for and ended up sending back to Gibson.

I just check out their site, and Gibson now has a run of Deep Purple versions of the ES-335, Classic, and Special.

What reverb pedals are yall using? My Secret Path has a white noise issue whenever it's in the signal chain, even if it is disengaged. I like to play very lightly and enjoy the dynamics of the sounds, which the white noise completely interferes with.

I've emailed Laney about it to see if there is a fix, but now looking for another options. I loved that this pedal had a Spring and Hall option on it, along with their "Secret Path" option that adds a sparkle to the sound. Great sounds out of it, but that white noise is a problem.

In the market for something else out there.

I use a Strymon Big Sky, but that's honestly serious overkill. I've also got a TC Hall of Fame that's excellent and still has a load of sounds. For a one trick pony imo the Strymon Blue Sky is amazing, and probably what I'll go to if I sell my others.

Funny, I was actually looking at that one. Was checking out some YouTube videos and seem to see a lot about the Strymon BlueSky and Flint. I'm not much of a tremolo guy, and would prefer to have more options like Shimmer.

But damn... that's an expensive pedal.

Man it is, and I totally get it, but it's absolutely a buy once cry once type deal. Because plugging one of those into your rig is a guaranteed mile wide smile. It's simply the most pro sounding reverb ever created for a pedal board. Mind blowing honestly. Still overkill for most people, but I can't get rid of mine, it's just that good.

I went ahead and grabbed a used one on Reverb for $320, including shipping.

Now I have to wait...

I'm a little out of practice but I find the strings on my Schecter brutally high of the frets. My LP plays so much smoother and I don't have to painfully press down for notes.

Is this as simple as lowering bridge? Or is there a lot more at play?
