DallasTele would probably have a better idea, but I'd assume it would be a combo of bridge height and truss rod adjustment.

Mostly the bridge but also the neck relief.

Setting up a guitar should always go:

Restring and tune to pitch > Check neck relief and set accordingly > adjust action by lowering or raising the bridge > tune again > set intonation

I know jack squat abot soldering. Last year during a night of insomnia I bought the station and accessory kit below.

Does this come w/the proper solder for guitar electronics work? I've read, maybe even on this thread, that different solder materials are better/worse for the need, and guitar wiring would do better w/a certain solder mixture. I have no idea of the standard included below is sufficient.

Immediate need is some wiring is coming loose on a jack so it sometimes shorts and sounds like I've partially pulled the amp cable out of the body.

That said the solder in that kit is "lead-free" solder. Never use lead-free solder, it is brittle and cracks.

You want a 60/40 tin/lead mix with a rosin core to make your soldering experience easier. As long as it has those specs, you should be good. This isn't just for guitars but for soldering anything.

I'll add to my Home Depot list, thanks!

Also make sure you buy a thinner tip for easier soldering. The tip that comes with that station is huge and flat... not good for soldering the lugs on the pots and such. It is good for soldering ground to the back of the pot.

Not sure what solder you will find at home depot, but you should be able to order 60/40 online.

Also, recommend practicing on some scrap electronics first to get the hang of things. Want to avoid cold solder joints among other things. Its not that it is hard, just need a modest amount of practice.

Not sure this is needed in your case, but there are some devices that help you hold an item you are soldering so you are free to hold the soldering iron in one hand and feed the solder with the other.

Thank you both. Re: solder at HD good point - i'll get it faster via Amazon because i don't have a pressing need to go to HD anyway.

Totally welcome!

One other quick point--be sure you have a good secure mechanical connection first and then solder. If solder is the only thing holding the connection together, then it will break sooner or later.

Finally got a new pickguard for my Michael Kelly tele. MK is weird in how they align their bridge so a regular pickguard has to be trimmed to fit. The previous owner of this guitar had blacked out all the hardware, so I thought the black pickguard was too much. Plus I'm really a fan of the turtleshell look on sunburst. I'll likely take a Sharpie and black out the edges though.

The Elixir 11's I've had on my PRS Lifeson acoustic were dead and needed to go. I put some 10's on there to see how they feel.

The bridge pins on the E strings, especially the low E, ended up higher than planned but seem to be holding position.

Redo the install on those two strings or let it be?

It should be okay, though it would drive me crazy. Need to really lock those strings in when you place the peg in there. I've only really had that issue on a very old guitar.

I thought I had it seated pretty well but evidently not. It's holding but I'll probably redo it tonight.

If anybody wants a Stupid Deal of the Day on Elixir acoustic 12's, here you go.

Got the BlueSky in, yesterday. Gonna be spending some hours with it today on all of my guitars.

One of these may qualify as a new guitar. I'm guessing that Strat is the "Virginia" model since the original Virginia is unplayable.

Anyone know what amp Chris Stapleton was using tonight? The tone during "O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave" was great

No idea but I'd guess this one. I'm never sure how they really do stuff like that though. I'm not even always convinced they're actually singing.

Yeah, even when live you cannot tell if the mic for the on-stage amp is hot, or if there is wireless pack sending the signal backstage to a processor and amp rack setup.

Any real musician is playing through a real amp and cabinets into a mic setup for large venues. If you are not, then you fail in my book.

My LP Classic has a nice ding on the headstock where my ceiling fan hit it as I was taking it off. That's why I love my new place with vaulted ceilings.

The fact that the headstock didn't snap off when it hit the piano is a miracle.

The PRS I had in college had a paint chip on the headstock from hitting the fan doing the same thing.

Picked up a Charvel DK24 HSS tonight. Been looking at getting this guitar for awhile, got motivated last night. So far a lot easy on the fingers than my beginner Epiphone.
