Those prices are trippy. That tele is beaut though.

I've seen that kind of hardware before. It works really well on natural finish teles in my opinion.
Thanks. I'm not sure it sounds significantly different than a standard Tele (at least to my untrained ears), but it has a nice vibe. I plugged the $850 price into an inflation adjustor, and it came out to about $2200 in today's dollars. I don't think Fender sells an Asian version of the RW Tele anymore, but a US version is about $4400 today. As far as the hardware, I probably wouldn't have put it on myself, but I kinda like it now that it's on. My dad is the least flashy person I know about everything except guitars. He does like bling when it comes to guitars.

yep, I paid $650 for my '66 ES-335TD, and $600 for my '83 Strat. Price shock looking at Reverb these days...

Saw this in a GC acoustic room.

Scratch and Dent? That is putting it lightly. It's like Trigger starter kit.

That price is ridiculous.

I'd have serious questions about the structural integrity of that top and how expensive it would end up being to get it functionally fixed, much less cosmetically.

Yeah... that would be a hard pass at just about any price point for me. The only reason I would buy a guitar with that level of wear/tear is if it were a vintage and rare guitar.

So, to be honest, I was a little concerned about my new Les Paul for a lack of... percussiveness? to the lower strings. They seemed to disappear when playing to the point that I had to raise the pickups a little on the low end side. Granted, the strings were obviously a little old and I don't know what brand.

Happy to say I finally got around to taking them off, cleaning/polishing the fretboard/frets, and setting the guitar up exactly how I like. Now those strings are nice and clear with a set of NYXL's. It's amazing what a new and good set of strings can do to your guitar, not to mention taking the time to properly set neck relief, string height, and intonation.

I always recommend the NYXL's to anyone who wants a good set of strings. Yeah, they're a little more expensive than others, but they last a LONG time and have such a great openess, clarity, and resonance across all 6 strings. I believe they really help bring out the tone of your guitar and I can go 6 months or more without replacing them on some of my less played guitars.

That's the kind of stuff that usually gets sold off to be fixed and resold by a luthier or just destroyed. I've bought some great factory seconds where I couldn't even see what made it a second. I've also seen some that clearly had damage like this before they were fixed that I wasn't interested in taking a shot at. $1300 for that thing unrepaired is absolute fantasy land stuff.

Because it feels like 90% of your posts are "today, at guitar center" but no NGD pics. It's a giant tease, man.

I'm ready to buy. Can't find what I want in stock so I'm having to wait.

GC was more of a beating than normal this week. Two Hispanic guys grabbed an acoustic off the Used Guitars wall and a used bass and proceeded to work thru a mini-set of Tejano songs, complete with vocals.

Thank God they didn't have a drummer or accordion player with them.

I did have a bit of a Wayne's World moment in GC.

This. I'm sure it sounds good, but a strat is supposed to be a strat, dammit. Don't try to make it something it ain't.

It does look a bit like a PRS with that finish.

Sorry guys... but I have to post again to gush over this new guitar. I could not put this thing down all day, yesterday. I would try to take a break to watch the games, but had to keep muting them to play this thing even more. I must have played for at least a combined 6 hours, if not more.

I used to think my Standard was a great guitar, but this reissue is finally giving me that clarity, articulation, and dynamics across the volume spectrum to get those tones I hear from Page in The Song Remains the Same. I just set my Tone King to my preferred max overdrive setting, and then do everything with my volume and tone knobs. Cleaning up the signal with the volume knob does not seem to lose any clarity or treble from the signal.

This thing is voodoo, and there is definitely no buyers remorse for me.

Musician's Friend is doing Stupid Deal of the Hour today. Maybe there will be a deal on something you need.

Are these good pickups?

They are Fender USA, so i'm sure they are good pickups, but pickups are so subjective. Some may love them but you may hate them.

If you have a Squire you're looking to upgrade, i'm sure they would be a big upgrade in tone. I don't know about MIM Fenders, but would depend what your specific MIM Strat came with.

All you can do it is find as many videos as you can. I think the only time you should be buying pickups is if you have already researched the particular sound you are looking for and have found these are moving you in that direction. That is a fantastic price for a pre-wired pickguard if it's what you're looking for. I personally prefer handwound pickups:

Thanks for the feedback. I read a number of reviews and almost all were very positive from people that have upgraded a Squire or MIM Strat. But I haven't researched these much at all.

I've still got a couple of setup issues to tackle so I am holding off on getting these. Sure was a tempting deal though!

No reason to buy the entire pre-wired set unless you are just absolutely hopeless at soldering. It's not hard to install 3 new pickups on any existing pickguard.

I personally would look at a set of handwound pickups from a 3rd party pickups manufacturer like Seymour Duncan or someone, if you are going for vintage tones.

Somebody posted a link way back in the thread about a guy in DFW who makes pickups. Those Gilmours looked interesting. I think I would like something like that.

How about a new neck for your Strat?

From South Africa. Carbon Fiber! No nut, but instead has a zero fret and string guide.

The version Darrell bought was $925!!!! Crikey! They do make some cheaper ones.
