I will say that my only experience meeting EJ was at A&M when he played Hurricane Harry's on the Venus Isle tour. One of my good friends was in Roger Creager's band (who played there all the time back then), and he got us into the venue in the afternoon during their load-in. Anyway, we were milling about, asking if we could help, etc. and the guys said sure and we loaded in some equipment, shot the bull, etc. Eventually EJ came strolling in, and he asked me if Sweet Eugene's was within walking distance. I said "Nope, but I'll give you a ride over there if you want."

Much to my surprise he took me up on the offer, and grabbed his keyboard player (Steve I think) to come along. We piled in my truck and ran over there, where he bought us teas or coffees or whatever. Couldn't have been nicer, asked about A&M, bonfire, etc. Had a couple of great stories he told us, and just was super cordial. I was just trying not to wreck my truck with a guitar god inside (lol).

He autographed my Venus Isle and Ah Via Musicom CDs (still have them) too.

Sweet story!

I didn't know the batteries story was well-known. My buddy didn't SAY he saw it happen, but I assumed it, and thus thought I was bringing truly obscure intel to the thread! Oh well!

$55k for a Hendrix prototype Strat from 1979?

This is Norman's Rare Guitars level of collectible.

PRS released their T-style guitars. Myles Kennedy has been playing one on stage for a while. I'm kind of surprised he's getting a signature guitar. I don't know how good he is or isn't, but guitar is definitely not what you think of when thinking of him.

As a PRS fanboi who has been waiting for this release I have to say, hmm....I'm not sure.

Here's what I do for a PRS "tele"

SE SInglecut with a Fralin Twangmaster in the bridge position and a Railhammer Cleancut P90 style in the neck. Very tele twangy sounds.

I'm not sure I get the need to do Strat and tele clones, but there seems to be a market for it so good for them I guess. I can't see myself buying one of these though.

It's not a Tele!

Both are legitimate reasons to be annoyed.

Meanwhile, sad times here. I recently sold my Les Paul Studio Goldtop and my PRS SE One. Kind of bittersweet.

I'm eventually going to grab a Gibson LP Junior or an Eastman SB55.

Sorry for your loss! Is it highly improper to ask what you got for them? Helps with assessing the market...

Finally grabbed some pictures in the sun of the new one. Their finishes pop so nicely.

There was a Custom 24 at the GC in Lubbock a while back that had that finish. I called it Dallas Cowboys Burst.

You named it after their draft picks?

Nice.

I'm probably going to send the photos to the guy who did the custom tuning buttons on my Tremonti and replace the nickel ones. He does solid work.

NGD!

So, I was working from home all day waiting for this to get here. I started making lunch, and then checked my email to see if the delivery date/time was still the same, and I had one of those "Sorry we missed you" messages. There is no way that UPS guy knocked on the door, and I was not going to wait until Friday for my guitar.

So, I scarfed my lunch down, noticed I had 1 hour until a conference call I had to be on, so started driving around the neighborhoods in a 1 mile radius to my place. Saw 4 USPS trucks, 3 Amazon trucks, and 1 FedEx truck.... no UPS truck. I finally decided I needed to start heading back when I drove by one of those full block apartment buildings and saw a UPS truck parked outside. I parked nearby and waited... sure enough, it was my UPS guy. Pulled this baby off the truck and took it home:

The fretboard was super dry, so I took the strings off and oiled it up. I can definitely hear the upper mids the alder body creates versus my ash body tele. Which one do I like better? Still lots of playing to be had. I wish say, this new one feels great to play, but nothing feels more comfortable to play than a well relic'd guitar. The pickups are also a little hotter. They are the same model as i have in my other Tele, but the other ones are relic'd and slightly degaussed to replicate 40-year-old pickups.

Gonna spend my birthday weekend playing some guitar!

I'm curious, how many folks here actively gig? I just got back to it after a couple years off.

Not in ages! And I played bass and played keys and bass on one song and split lead singing duties. But that was another life ago.

I did practice rhythm lessons tonight for 1.5 hours so someday I won't be ashamed for someone besides our pets to hear me.

On my phone is a Note with a list of songs I want to learn and then someday will just call them up from memory as I busk for dollars on the street.

I always keep a pair of picks in my wallet just in case a jam breaks out, and they have come in handy. Actual gigs have been a long time though...

I just purchased a PRS S2 McCarty 594 10th anniversary edition in Lake Blue. The 10th anniversary edition has the same American made 58/15 LT pickups as the core series, so it's a nice upgrade for an additional $500. Also has mother of pearl bird inlays in the place of plastic. Can't wait for it to be here in a couple of days.

Headed to downtown Austin this weekend for a comedy show. Any good shops to check out nearby? Austin Vintage Guitars looks like a good stop.
