How did it end where it began? Did y'all watch the season?

Marty has lost his most valuable asset in running day to day operations (Ruth), his "investors" are positioning to be his biggest opposition (Darlene, KC Mob, Congressman), his son is on the verge of going absolutely crazy and now he's in even DEEPER with the Cartel.

Maybe y'all are wanting a House of Cards (after S2) type leap episode to episode, i.e. Wendy running for office or some *****
This.

You got a spoiler there....

Still not sure why anyone would go reading threads about a Netflix season if they haven't watched all episodes. If they see spoilers, it's their fault.
Yeah, I stayed away specifically until I finished season 3.

As did I, and as does any other logical person. The only thing spoiler tags do in a Netflix-show thread is inconvenience actual show watchers from having to click more times to read the comments.

Except there's nothing to click. Who knew hovering over something could be such a massive inconvenience.

If you can explain how one hovers on a cell phone browser, then you may have a point.

The only point here is there is no such thing as spoilers on a thread about a show from a streaming service. If someone clicks on the threads without having seen the entire season, it's their own fault for doing so.

**Season Spoilers***

Just finished S3!

From start to finish, this was the best one yet.

First thought: holy sh*t Tom Pelphrey (actor who played Ben) is amazing. This show asked alot from him and he delivered. He reminds me of Jon Bernthal with just his intensity, on-screen charisma, and somewhat, out of nowhere, performance (plus he kinds looks like him). Can't say enough about his portrayal as Ben.

I'm not usually a fan of 'cliff-hanger' type endings, but considering the total journey S3 took these characters on, I couldn't begrudge them anything.

Haphazard things i liked/enjoyed:
  • Ruth's cussing. Remains the apex of using dirty language. She's an artist.
  • The entire therapist plot was darkly hilarious.
  • Nelson (the hitman/bodyguard) being a complete sociopath. My god, what an unnerving character. I loved the foreshadowing of his conversation with Helen when he said he would warn her if a hit were ever put on her. Which, obviously didn't happen when he shot her point blank at the end.
  • Speaking of the end, Idk if they did this on purpose but when Wendy called Navarro to tell him that she killed Ben as a show of loyalty/commitment, he responded by saying something to the effect of; "What did you expect? That I would welcome you into my embrace as blood." Fast forward to that final scene and he is literally embracing the byrd's in the blood of his executed partner. It obviously also served as a "baptism" for the Byrd's who were in Mexico under the pretense of Navarro's new son's baptism.
  • Laura Linney (wendy byrd) rules. Nothing new but she just flexes all over this show.
  • Private jet life. Is it really that easy to charter a private jet as a drug king pin back and forth to the US? lol not a big deal, it was just funny to me how casual it seemed.

The only weak part to me was Jonah pulling the gun on Helen. It was obviously to get her to divulge Wendy's betrayal of her brother but i thought that coulda been handled a little....cleaner.

It seems as though while Wendy and Marty have earned a strong alliance with Navarro, they've alienated everyone at the Ozarks (including the seeds of discord having been planted in Jonah). I hate that Ruth is now gonna be working against Marty, but should make for some intriguing drama.

It also gave some human aspect of her as she honestly admitted how much she regretted the situation that her kids and the Byrd's kids were in because of her.

The biggest issue I had with it was Jonah was standing at the door that had big see through glass windows holding the shotgun to his side. You could easily see the butt of the gun next to him from the angle the camera was at, I could only imagine how obvious it would have been standing right at the door like Helen.

I'm with you there. I really wanted Ruth and Marty to end up in a good relationship. I guess it is from the years of wanting Walt to actually treat Jessie like family like he deserved and wanted.

Yea i just thought that whole scene felt very tacked on and hokey. Like, it literally felt like the writers went; "how do we make it known to Jonah that Wendy killer her brother? hmm, what if Jonah just walked to Helen's house 1 afternoon, pulled a gun on her for the confession (a woman we've seen get literally tortured), and then just left?" Yea, that'll work."

It's really not a big deal, but it was a pretty jarring scene in terms of "buying in" for me.

Same color shirt as on the plane. Same pistol he used on therapist. His glare at her while on the jet was a dead giveaway in hindsight

Ya I specifically paid attention to that the second time I watched, because I was trying to figure out if Jonah shot someone, and who that could be. I thought perhaps Nelson stayed behind to take him out.

Said the same thing to my wife last night. Never heard of him before this season. I may be jumping the gun but he has potential to be a big name. You can't deny that performance, especially his last couple of episodes. Pretty phenomenal.

Pros -
Bateman - loves how Maya appreciates his genius like we do
Helen - great to see a villain that has a real life, kid troubles, marriage troubles, boss troubles - few shows ever show all the aspects of the bad guy. Sopranos was the first to do this really well.
The whole boat casino setting - at end of season 2 on that small boat I wondered how that was going to go, but really well played.
The ending - great set up for Season 4

Cons -
Ben - the meltdown in the cab talking to himself was good acting but felt like "this is where we try to get him the best supporting actor nom". Also any cartel would not have given him or Wendy any delays or second chances. First sign of him being trouble and he would've been offed but he kept showing back up to do more stupid stuff.
Darlene and Wyatt - yuck and Darlene's storyline is tired

Overall very entertaining season!

Not trying to derail.. my wife and I just got done with season 1. I have not read this thread as I don't want to be spoiled. But I have one glaring question, and it's almost keeping me from continuing with this show..

How the hell can y'all take this show so seriously when Jason Bateman is literally playing the exact same role as every other movie he's ever been in. I don't think there's a less sincere, more uninspiring actor in the history of Hollywood. Because I've seen a lot of his past movies, I cringe every time he opens his mouth. He's literally the same guy from Couples Retreat. Just a new family and a new setting. Thank God the rest of the cast is really damn good and redeems the show.

I'm sure it's an unpopular opinion so I'm ready to be flamed.

Agree on your first paragraph. Disagree on the second. The cartels DO NOT want to mess around on US soil and typically do not as it pertains to actual American citizens. I actually thought they way overplayed the Cartel's hand as it pertained to operating within the US with seemingly impunity. That's just not how it works.

This series has given me a whole new appreciation of Bateman. I already loved his smart ass antics in comedies (arrested dev being one of my fav shows), but this has taken that personality and put it in a very serious and grim role, and I think he pulls it of damn well. His nervous anxiety plays funny in his other roles but here he really brings an intense version of it that plays for a very highly suspenseful feeling.

Season 4 is going to be great......

Thought Ben did a great job acting but I thought dragged and obviously there to set up a Marty vs Ruth showdown next season. She was too loyal to Marty so the only way to turn her was to have the Byrds kill her love interest.

The ending! And what do they do with the daughter still at home? Will she know her mother dies in Mexico right after she learns about their involvement with the cartel?

Ah damn, didn't even think about her daughter's reaction. Hopefully they don't just write her off and say she went back to live with her dad.

Well she already went to back to Chicago, but yea, she is definitely going to ask questions...

Jonah is the most intriguing character moving forward. He is skilled/sharp like Marty, but also emotional/likeable like Wendy...can't wait to see what that leads to

Also, why does Ruth seem OK with living in that run down trailer when she's obviously worth more than that, seems Marty would just throw cash at her to keep her happy. I kept thinking, "Somebody's going to point this out to her and she's gonna demand some big payout of some sort to get out of that trashed trailer".

Did anyone ever see him in It's Your Move ?? Only one season but I loved the show he was like a Zack Morris styled person from saved by the bell. Dregs of Humanity rule
Texaggie7nine
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I just had a Mandela Effect moment. I never saw It's Your Move, but I could have sworn that Bateman was on an 80's-90's iconic family comedy show. I know I was not mixing him up with Kirk Cameron or Michael J Fox, it just seems like he was in some big TV show as a smart Alec brother. I went through his IMDB over and over and over. Looking at the period before Teen Wolf 2 nothing but some show called Valerie.

I was about to give in and say that the Mandela Effect was absolutely real because I remember him, plain as day being an older brother, having 2 younger brothers and I loved the show as a kid but it just didn't exist on his IMDB page. I googled "shows like Growing Pains", nothing came up with him. I googled "80's 90's family comedy tv shows", still nothing.

I remembered that Grace on Ferris Bueller's day off played his quirky neighbor in it, so I went to her IMDB profile. Nothing. There's that stupid Valerie again. I've never seen Valerie, what kind of stupid named show is that?

I finally click on Valerie and the picture for the show is The Hogan Family. That's the damn show! Now why the hell do they call it Valerie on IMDB?
