Really digging the title track. A lot of vibes from the lateralus album. Some lateralus, intension, and maybe schism feel in there.

Sounds like The Main Monkey Business by Rush.
It is so easy to be wrong—and to persist in being wrong—when the costs of being wrong are paid by others.

Slightly off topic, but I'm enjoying the latest Opeth track as well (album comes out in september)

New music from two of my favorite bands.. not a bad deal.

Hard to believe, I had to look it up, but while it's been 13 years since new Tool, it's been longer since new System of a Down!

I can't turn on Sirius XM without hearing Tool for the last two weeks. It is glorious.

As I have been rediscovering all of Tool's music (I go through phases where I binge music and what better time to re-binge Tool's entire catalog) I have even been rocking them at the gym. While it is not the most upbeat stuff it is still definitely good music to get the blood moving.

It's perfect work music for me. Just put it on and zone out.

I haven't really dove into their catalogue yet to be honest, but I love progressive metal. I tend to like the newer Opeth stuff I've heard a lot more than their older stuff. From what little I've heard

You love progressive metal and don't know any Opeth?? lol.

Their last 3 (and likely this new one out next month) are basically progressive rock now.. even some fusion.

Their period from blackwater park to watershed are pretty much all prog metal masterpieces. (with damnation losing the metal and being 70s prog rock.)

fyi, apparently there's a leak of the new Album.

I for one am going to wait. i waited 13 years so 4 days is nothing.

People that have heard it are saying it's worth the wait... which in this case, is quite the statement.

I checked into Reddit and saw all the commotion on the leak. Will also be waiting. Tool release + Aggie football in a few more days.

Just so good. Really different types of riffs on this album. That main riff on Pneuma is nasssssssty.

Thru the first listen last night Invincible was my favorite track, but there is a cool guitar effect moment on Descending that I really liked. Between minutes 7 and 8 it starts into a blues slide type effect and slowly transitions into more of a 80's metal effect, then does it again later in the song.

7empest is great, and Pneuma may become my favorite as I listen to the album more.

They are definitely pushing the time limit boundary for me. I can dig 8-9 minute songs all day long like a lot of metallica or opeth tunes. But those songs, even though they are long, are concise and have distinct and memorable sections. Tool is really dragging on in some of these, and they are 12-15 min. I can distinctly remember hearing opeth's hessian peel for the first time, clocking in at over 11 min.. and it was instantly an easy listen with memorable sections, transitions, riffs and vocal melodies that stuck in my head. I'm getting that with a few short sections of these tool songs but overall it's all really blending together and a lot of it definitely sounds recycled from the previous two albums.

Don't get me wrong I'll continue to listen and new parts will begin to grow on me, but I do appreciate a prog effort that instantly grabs you instead of forcing multiple listens.

Album is incredible and I wasn't a huge fan of the title track when it hit.

Pneuma and Invincible are my current favorites. That whole back half of Invincible with slight variations on the slow death march rhythm is so damn tasty.

Also my favorite 2. 8:30+ in invincible is as crunchy and awesome as Tool gets

Very similar to the intro of Jambi which is one of my favorites of theirs
