It is a good movie to watch if you are looking to take a nap in a public place like a movie theater.

With two 5 and under kids in my house, I would gladly pay $12 for a two hour nap.

This movie was strange. I have no idea if I liked it or not.

Don't want to go into spoilers, but some scenes seemed completely unnecessary

Hmm, seems everyone has a differing opinion.

If anyone else wants to comment, I'll probably wait a couple weeks if I go to see it in the theatre.

Additional thoughts:

I think what I most enjoyed about this movie was how it showed what the world might actually look like in a universe with commercial space travel. Very 2001.

So was my "this movie is nothing like the previews" prediction correct?

(Planning on seeing it Sunday)

Based off the sorta wtf reactions on this thread I read some RT user reviews...that was good for some laughs.

This one sounds a bit off the rails. I'll wait around before going to see it. Need to see true classics like Rambo first.

LMAO. It's been years but I have done this several times. Gave my wife a few hours to herself and took our boys to the movies and got a nice 90 minute nap. I can't remember anything about Tin Tin. I think was out within the first five minutes.

Hang in there, it gets better.

It's like clockwork. Pitt hasn't made a good movie in a long time.

And the Dumbest Post of the Day Award goes to... PearlJammin! Congrats!

Damn it, Spanky and Spilner beat me to it while I was looking for the right gif.

"Spanky and Spilner" sounds an edgy, long-lost Nickelodeon cartoon from the '90s, btw.

My clockwork comment was in reference to the narrator, dumba$$. I'm not the one pumping idiotic movies.

Ha, what? You still literally said, "Pitt hasn't made a good movie in a long time." I don't get how the clockwork comment affects that either way. And sorry, all awards are final.

Also, please continue to authoritatively opine on a movie you haven't seen yet. That always works out well on this board.

Didn't read this thread. Previews don't give any sort of Heart of Darkness hint but this is essentially a retelling of it.

This is going to be one of those movies that movie snobs and English teachers love but you couldn't pay me to slog through that crap again.

Sucks to hear, but I've read too many glowing reactions from people I trust to count this one out just yet. I may end up hating it as well, though, who knows. Seeing it Saturday night.

After driving home, here's what I didn't like

1 The trailer doesn't lead one to believe this is straight up another retelling of Heart of Darkness unless you view it after watching the movie. Maybe I'd have been more entertained if I had gone in expecting the type of movie it was, but I also wouldn't have wasted this afternoon off on going to see it either. This warning from the last page is absolutely essential if you want to enjoy the movie

Quote:

But be warned, this is not an action movie whatsoever. This is more 2001 than Gravity

...and the marketing for the movie don't indicate that at all.

2 - 60%+ of the dialogue of the movie is either narration or video diary based. I realize Apocalypse Now did a lot of that as well but not on this scale. I get that his internal personal struggles are what the movie actually about but after a certain point it just felt like a lazy director not telling the story on the screen.

3 This movie doesn't have the iconic scenes that give you a break like Apocalypse Now does and prevents you from coming up for air from the tediousness of it all.

This was the feeling my wife and I had when watching the trailer. Thanks for the confirmation. I won't be seeing this, at least until it comes to video.

It's basically Spacepocalypse Now, but that's not a bad thing.

It's visually stunning, and an interesting story pretty well told. My only issue is that once I realized it was Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse Now it was a bit of a letdown and I ended up spending a good amount of time comparing it to those stories in my head.
