Agreed. Really looking forward to this more and more.

I just hope it doesn't get lost in the shuffle, coming out a week after Eternals and a week before Top Gun Maverick.

John Boyega will always irritate me
This.

I do not like him as an actor. He doesn't seem to have any range in his emotions or facial expressions. Not enough to make me cringe, but definitely don't look forward to seeing him perform.

I have to say... with so much trash that had come out before the pandemic, this lineup really has me excited for movies again, outside the MCU.

That Ghostbusters trailer was 100% pandering to Ghostbusters fans, and i'm here for it!

Stillwater looks good as well. I appreciated what Damon had to say after spending time with a bunch of middle America oil-men in Oklahoma.

My only push back is that I thought pre-pandemic/2019 was one of the best years for movies in a long time. Endgame, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Jojo Rabbit were each are all-timers for me. Not to mention titles like Knives Out, Ford v Ferrari, Uncut Gems, etc. Every year has plenty of trash, but 2019 gave me a lot of hope, which was of course then killed a couple months later when everything went to hell. Are you talking about 2019 or those couple months right before the pandemic, specifically?

Actually, it may just be so long, I'm thinking before 2019. I did enjoy most of those movies. I just remember a fairly long time where I wasn't excited about any movies coming out, besides a Marvel movie.

So...is WB just excepting that these movies won't be Oscar eligible? I assumed they'd push the HBO Max dates back a week to keep these films eligible for the big awards, but it seems like they aren't. Did I read that new rule change wrong?

it's a "kid"-napping story about a mother that will stop at nothing to have her child returned.

As long as a movie has a theatrical run of at least one week, in one theater in the United States, it's Oscar eligible. Doesn't matter what it also does on streaming. A movie can't *only* show on steaming and be Oscar eligible (though the Academy made an exception last year due to Covid).

Hold up.

A move about Venus and Serena Williams will instead focus on someone else and be a will smith vehicle?

I'm not sure how well that will come across with women, turning two of the greatest female tennis superstars into secondary characters in their own story.

The trailer looks really good, I just have a feeling a natural demographic for the movie might be a tad annoyed by that.
Thanks and gig'em

Oh ok. I thought it had to be 1 week "exclusively" in a theater, so I misread that.

Maybe it was that way pre-Covid? I can't remember. But WB will definitely be campaigning hard for Dune, King Richard, etc.

It was the DGA that changed it:
https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2021/06/awards-insider-dga-awards-theatrical-requirement-dune

I remembered something was going to throw a wrench in WB/HBO MAX day and date.

Quote:

The Directors Guild of America, whose feature-film prizes make for critical stepping stones in the race for Oscars, announced on Tuesday that in order to be considered for its top directing award, any film released after June 15, 2021, must screen exclusively in theaters for at least seven days before being made available on streaming and digital platforms.

Just FYI, next week with Warner Bros.' The Suicide Squad, we could very well be getting trailers for any of these three WB movies...

- Reminiscence
- The Matrix Resurrections
- The Batman

... and potentially even trailers for...

- No Time to Die (MGM)
- Top Gun: Maverick (Paramount)
- Spider-Man: No Way Home (Walt Disney)

Though, my gut says Disney saves the No Way Home trailer for either Free Guy (Disney/20th Century Fox) on August 13 or Shang-Chi on September 3.

Either way, seeing as Warner Bros. already released trailers for Dune last week and King Richard this week, I'm betting they release new trailers for at least a couple of the first three titles above. Possibly Reminiscence and The Matrix Resurrections, and then they save the next trailer for The Batman with Dune on October 22nd? We shall see...

I've been wondering where the Matrix trailer is. For a huge blockbuster it's pretty late in the game to not even have a teaser yet.

Granted covid has thrown everything off.

With Shang-Chi on September 3rd seems like the absolute latest they'd wait. My money's on next week, though.

I forgot that we're also due a new Eternals trailer, and I can't see them waiting past Shang-Chi for that one either, seeing as Eternals releases November 5th. So maybe we get the No Way Home teaser trailer either next week or the week after, and then the full Eternals trailer with Shang-Chi on September 3rd?

The Batman probably won't be until Fandome in October. It was one of the biggest things in last year's Fandome, and I bet they'd want to replicate that but with a full trailer.

Yeah, you're probably right. An online premiere at Fandom on the 16th, then in theaters with Dune on the 22nd would make a lot of sense.
