With that title my first thought was WWII, along the lines of 633 Squadron. Oh well.

Wanna hear a crazy story sorta related to TAMU and the Unabomber. I posted this once before on here.

Ok this one was pretty wild as far as my teachers and classes went. I do not even remember the profs name as I was in Engineering and this was a humanities class in Sociology to meet a requirement. This guy was kinda nuts, wore ripped jeans, sandals and tie die shirts to class, had hair almost like Howard Stern. Basically a 60s like hippie teaching Sociology. Kinda radical in A&M environment anyway and certainly a very liberal guy. But a great prof, very engaging. Wish I could remember his name. This was mid 80s. One of those big 300 person lecture halls in Harrington.

Anyway suddenly he is gone from class one day, and a TA tells us to go home, same thing the next class. He was gone for at least a week. When he comes back he tells us this story......

He went to some social mixer thing at a bar in the Hilton, some conference was going on and some people he knew from academia would be there. So he is at the bar and 2 guys approach him in suits, they don't identify themselves but they start asking him if he knows certain academics, books on radical stuff like bomb making, etc. And he knows all these people and has read the books and always up for a good social debate he starts actually kinda extolling some of the virtues of radicalism. And embellishing a little even who he knew and what he read as he said he had a few drinks and was having a good time.

At that point these suits show him their FBI badges and tell him they are going to need to talk to him some more. But officially. He tells us he was now panicking and scared of course. But they literally took him to Washington and the FBI interviewed him extensively over several days, very intense. And I guess they finally let on that they were investigating the Unabomber case and he was actually a "person of interest" because he knew several of the people who received bombs at least indirectly, read a lot of the same type publications, and promoted certain radical ideologies. It was hysterical. Anyway, he was also quite a bit less radical after that, toned it down quite a bit, Kinda scared straight. lol. He was actually very concerned he might be mistakingly accused or something.

This was either spring 86 or later that fall and the Unabomber had sent 4 bombs in 1985, his busiest period so the investigation and publicity was high on that case at the time.
