We all have our standards for great. The other day I was just thinking about how many great movies Bruce Willis has been in.

1. The 6th Sense
2. Die Hard
3. 12 Monkeys
4. The 5th Element
5. Pulp Fiction
6. Looper
7. Red
8. Armageddon
9. Bandits

Did I miss any? Who's been in more great movies?

HF was one I had in mind, though I would dispute some of your list as great. He is one of my faves.

Samuel L. Jackson has the highest total gross for all movies. but box office is too swayed by big ensemble movies that he had smaller roles in.

I don't know about MOST - several mentioned here are up there.

But no actor was in a higher percentage of great films then John Cazale. He was in only 5 full length feature films and all 5 were nominated for Best Picture.

The Godfather
The Conversation
The Godfather II
Dog Day Afternoon
The Deer Hunter

which brings me to 2 more nominations:

Al Pacino - Oscar roles noted

The Godfather - nominated
the Godfather II - nominated
Serpico - nominted
Dog Day Afternoon - nominated
Scarface
Scent of a Woman - winner
Carlito's Way
Heat
Donnie Brasco
Glengarry Glenross - nominated
...and Justice for All - nominated
The Devil's Advocate
The Insider
Insomnia
Any Given Sunday (just for that speech)

and my favorite Marlon Brando but admittedly he has fewer great films

A Streetcar Named Desire - nominated
Viva Zapata - nominated
Julius Caesar - nominated
The Wild One
Sayonara - nominated
On the Waterfront - winner
Guys and Dolls
Mutiny on the Bounty
Last Tango in Paris - nominated
The Godfather - winner
Superman
Apocalypse Now
A Dry White Season - nominated
The Freshman

I'd still take Hanks or Ford over them. But they are up there.

an interesting sidebar to this would be, who has the highest % of good films in their career. I imagine Dicaprio will be high up on this list, as well as Brad Pitt

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

The criteria was "GREAT movies"
He has made many that I would never consider great. Patriot Games is, in my estimation, a steaming pile of crap, at least compared against the novel. Sabrina comes to mind. I saw it once, hated it. Didn't like Regarding Henry.

As for his last Indiana Jones movie, I wouldn't call that one great either, but then I never considered The Temple of Doom to be great either. Both have their moments, good and bad, but neither are anywhere near Raiders or The Last Crusade.

I think "not great" may be a bit of an understatement for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull... It was a steaming pile, compared to other, not that great steaming piles.

Jim Carrey is solid.

he had a slow start with a dozen or so films before A.V., but look at his run from A.V. to the eternal sunshine..

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
The Mask
Dumb and Dumber
Batman Forever
Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls
The Cable Guy
Liar Liar
The Truman Show
Simon Birch
Man on the Moon
Me, Myself & Irene
The Majestic
Bruce Almighty
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Lose simon burch, majestic and maybe batman, and that's a hell of a run in 10 years. From comedy gold to full on dramatic acting.

Sorry to be repetitive, but one of the coolest cocktail conversation starters has got to be "I was Han Solo AND Indiana Jones".

Behind Harrison Ford, I'd say Tom Cruise. From Maverick to Jerry Maguire to Ethan Hunt.

From 77 to about 95, Harrison Ford was basically the undisputed #1 movie star in the world, and rightly so.

I'm not sure who took his title after that. Maybe Cruise? Currently, it's probably DiCaprio.
