How long do you want to ignore this user?
To Kill a Mockingbird
True Grit
MASH
Godfather
Godfather II
The Eagle Has Landed
Network
Apocalypse Now
Greta Santini
Tender Mercies
The Natural
Lonesome Dove
The Apostle
Open Range
Secondhand Lions

Robert Duvall doesn't have the ton of huge box office hits that some of the other actors do. But that's as impressive a catalog as any actor. His best ten films will match up with anybody's else top ten.

Sure and I love Duvall although he wasn't the central figure - maybe not even 2nd or 3rd) in Mockingbird, True Grit, MASH and the Godfather movies. At that time he was more of a character actor than a lead actor - but he brought such realism and depth to every role. He was great in all of them for sure. But his greatest works came later in bigger roles.

FYI you also forgot these great films:

A Civil Action - nominated for academy award
The Judge - nominated for supporting actor as the judge
Colors - very controversial in its day but he was great
Stalin - made for TV movie he won the Golden Globe for the lead role of Stalin
Broken Trail - won the Emmy for primetime movie or miniseries actor

and these highly memorable great roles in some otherwise mostly forgettable movies.

Days of Thunder - crew chief Harry
Deep Impact - Col. Sturgeon (Fish) Tanner
Jack Reacher - Cash the gun range operator and vet

He's top 10 for me for sure.

It was a deleted scene, though I don't think you don't ever see his face.

His wife at the time wrote the screenplay. He was cast as a teacher. Showed just the back of his head. But the scene was deleted. Kinda like Costner in the Big Chill.

although Costner was still in the movie technically - just as a corpse without his face shown being dressed for the funeral by the mortician.

his cut scene was a flashback.

He was. The scene is actually included in the special edition laser disc that I still have (yeah, I was one of about a dozen people who actually bought those damn things, which now are nothing but a bunch of worthless paper weights occupying space in my house). Could not see his face as the camera was set up behind him and focused on Elliot. He did talk, so his voice was recognizable.

You'd put him above DeNiro or Pacino?

Didn't see Paul Newman mentioned. He kicks ass as an actor in a **** ton of movies.

IMDB has a 35 best films starring Newman. https://www.imdb.com/list/ls001897674/
