Yeah, I know from my buddy who worked on all the Pirates movies that both Bloom and Knightley are down to return in a limited capacity. Or at least they were as of the end of production on the last movie. But the box office apparently wasn't good enough last time around and talks quickly faded. But maybe they're picking up again for some reason.
Btw, I finally got some light on this from my friend. The current plan to "reboot" the franchise will NOT recast any roles, but nor will it see any of the old cast/characters return. It'll be the same continuation/storyline, just with a whole news cast, all new characters, and all new adventures. So Depp's Captain Sparrow will have existed in this universe, he just won't be around anymore (though that doesn't necessarily mean he's dead either). Same for Bloom's and Knightley's characters. They existed, they're likely still alive, there are stories about them, there are people who knew them, etc., but we'll simply be moving on to new pirates, characters, adventures, etc in that world.
