Yeah, I think the thing that struck me last night is that the Finn/Rose stuff really doesn't take up as much screen time as it felt like it did the first couple of times I watched it.

I'm definitely not saying this movie is one of the best or anything, but watching it last night, at the end I was like 'you know... this is better than I remember.'

I've said this before but it's a lot like the Return of the Jedi where there's two movies in one.

There's a good movie: Rey/Kylo/Luke/Snoke : Luke/Darth/Emperor
And there's a crap movie: Finn/Rose/Holdo/Poe : Han/Leia/Ewoks

And last night the bad movie didn't take away from the good one as much as it did the first couple of viewings.

I've been a proponent of TLJ since it was released, but even I'll admit the Rose/Finn/Poe stuff isn't great (although I don't think it's as bad as others make it out to be...prequel stuff is far worse IMO).

The 3rd act is some of my favorite stuff in the saga and masterfully done IMO. Of the sequel trilogy, they've delivered two amazing acts: Act 1 in TFA and Act 3 in TLJ. Interestingly, I think both movies so far have really struggled with the 2nd act.

Here's to hoping TROS puts it all together.

I agree - the Rose / Finn scene felt like forever in the theater, but it goes a lot faster when I can hit the fast forward button at the house.

It's interesting that most of you are saying the Finn/Rose/Poe stuff was the bad parts of TLJ. Friends I have that hate the movie and most of the interwebs still seem to hate what Rian Johnson did with Luke...

I still actually really like the movie and was one of the few defenders after release. Only have issues with some of the Finn/Rose/Poe/Holdo stuff

I can get that people don't like the way Rian went with Luke, but that's more of an expectations thing than it is a problem with the movie itself. It not being the movie you wanted is, to me, different than it being a bad movie.

Something I've been pondering.

We have seen a red eyed "dark" Rey.
Any thoughts the cloaked figure sitting on emperor throne isn't palpatine but dark Rey?

Sort of a force dream like Luke had of his face inside Vader mask? This is Rey's force dream of her as evil emperor? Could explain her perplexed expression in trailer?

So funny. Was just about to post that. Jason Ward bugs me so much.

That said, re: believing the internet, the reddit plot leaks, at least, have been proven right time and again, especially with each new TV spot and interview lately. So while Ward's reporting has been spotty as hell, reddit has indeed been spot on...

Btw, I just read the article itself and even Trevorrow couldn't write something that bad. Rey's mom as the Solo's former housekeeper? And the final, climactic fight between Rey and Kylo at the old Solo household? Who comes up with this stuff?

Question: You mentioned identifying loose ends from throughout the saga. How daunting does it become getting everything into a single movie?
Response: I think that, by my last count, there were 24 character arcs in the movie. Twenty-four characters whose stories had sort of beginning, middle, and end.


What line is he talking about, and what character arcs...
