This would have been Luke if the sequels were made in the 90's...

I wonder if that is Vader's saber? They had a reference to a red light saber being traded and sold as Vader's in one of the Aftermath novels.

This is pretty slick.

With literally no evidence to base it on, I'm wondering if this fight at the Death Star is one of the first things to happen in the movie.

Wow, that's pretty cool.

I've had the same thought. Maybe Rey running in the forest is the first scene in the movie, leading to this fight, similar to the opening of ROTS with the Anakin vs Dooku fight up top.

I'm with you...I'd predict it comes at the end of the 1st Act.

Yeah, I kind of see it as an opening sequence of their both trying to get (insert object here) from the death star, one side or the other gets it and then both groups fall back and regroup before some bigger battle/showdown/whatever at the end.

It's hard not to address this speculation without giving even a vague hint in spoiler text, but I'll refrain!

What is this from?

Only thing I'm sure of is it wasn't the Big Red One

While I know a lot of you don't delve in the the books, the Aftermath book trilogy covers some of this. While it doesn't address it specifically, the books make it fairly obvious that everything that's been happening (Battle of Jakku, Rise of the First Order) was according to Palpatine's desires.

So is the Aftermath book trilogy worth reading? The SW books are all hit and miss. Wasn't sure if this was really worth it?

I know I pasted this a while back, but the 'Darth Plageius' was really interesting. And I think the backstory told there will come into play for this movie.

If Palpatine is anything other than a ghost, like Kenobi - then we are approaching an intergalactic shark jump.

What if Palpatine spirit/ghost in Palpatine clone body?

The planet that the death star iii has crashed into is a moon that is mostly water. It's name was revealed in some collateral merchandise. That is not the same world where Rey is training. They have different names.

The books are hit and miss. The only one I really like is the one where everyone learns that Leia is Vader's daughter. The others are pretty convoluted and one of them writes Han like a total doofus.

Watched the trailer for the 63rd time this morning. Feel like maybe FInn's opening lines are him explaining to Jannah what their purpose is on her world and why they need help.

Or Palpatine's cloned ghost in a Palpatine spirit body?

I read the first Aftermath book... and this was just before TFA opened so hype was at an all time high... and I still thought it was hot garbage.

Terrible, had to force myself to finish it.

After watching the trailers, I'm assuming the forest planet is where we start. Rey is training while the resistance regroups and gets a new plan together. This plan takes them to the desert plant which then leads them to the death star. This then leads them all to the final location, where the fleet of old star destroyers awaits.

I'm thinking opening crawl will talk about the first order terrorizing the galaxy and the opening scene is an action sequence of them fighting, which is the shot we've seen of Kylo fighting along side the storm troopers.

I tried reading them but couldn't finish. The writing style was disjointed and crude. It was like reading a book that stopped and started like a 15 yo learning to drive. Herky Jerky.

I did listen to the audiobooks and that wasn't as bad. I'd say the story was a C-. I'd go with the audio if you interested in getting them.

I will like it if they tie it into his Darth Plageius story in ROTS. (Learning to cheat death.)

I totally get how older fans would feel cheated by that, but for me who grew up in the prequel era, it would feel like a pretty seamless story arc for Palpatine.
I'm an older fan, and I will be quite pleased if they somehow tie his survival to the Darth Plageius story.

I thought this was one of Revenge of the Sith's best sequences, and hinted quite strongly (at least to me) that Palpatine did, indeed, learn this power.

If they go with something like he's a clone, that will not come off so well. Seems too easy, whereas the Plageius story gives this sequel trilogy a strong connection to the origins of the entire conflict on display through the Skywalker saga.

For speculation purposes, from Wookipedia and other official sources, here are (most of) the names, along with corresponding images, of all the new planets/locations. The following has all been officially and publicly revealed...

UKNOWN JUNGLE PLANET - Lucasfilm has yet to reveal the name of this planet, but all speculation is / indications are that it's featured toward the beginning of the movie and is where Rey is training / the Resistance is regrouping.

PASAANA - Desert planet. Site of a presumed Rey/Kylo stand off, chase scene with Jet Troopers, and a confrontation with the Knights of Ren. Homeworld of the Aki-Aki species.

KIJIMI - Frigid mountainous planet. Homeworld of newcomers Zorri Bliss and Babu Frik.

KEF BIR - Ocean moon - one of nine moons, along with the Forest Moon of Endor - that revolves around the planet Endor, where the wreckage of the second Death Star remains. Homeworld of newcomer Jannah.

And then no clue where these scenes takes place / what these locations are...

I think iceberg planet is Cloud City.

Disney/Lucasfilm officially announced yesterday that the "planet" with the fallen remains of the second Death Star isn't a planet at all, nor the Forest moon of Endor - but rather an ocean moon called Kef Bir that also revolves around the planet Endor. It looks different enough from the jungle planet where Rey is training that I'm 99% sure they're different locations. Would be pretty cool if the jungle planet is Yavin, but I don't know if that would be the smartest planet to be hiding out on at this point...

The Reylo destroying Vader's helmet scene is also very reminiscent of that Cloud City aesthetic. And could be where Lando re-enters the story, too.

For sure. Those lights in the background along the wall are 100% Empire/First Order design. Would be interesting if the Empire/First Order took over Cloud City at some point and are using it as some kind of base.

Theory on Palestine that I saw on one of the trailer breakdowns (not really spoiler I don't think): Palestine is AI and much of the actions from the sequel trilogy are part of his "end worlds" revenge plan put into place while alive So not really alive. Apparently that came out of a comic storyline.

Oh great now they are bringing Mid East politics in the movies.
