What's up with so many people talking about leaks the past few days on reddit? Was there some leaks recently? Where are people getting this info?

But don't ask questions about them on this thread unless you want leak discussion on this thread.
Whether or not Spilner asked for them is irrelevant. Don't be a ***** and bring up spoilers on this thread

The article hits on the unique relationship between the Skywalkers & current heroes. Luke is connected with Rey and Kylo has a connection with Vader/Anakin.

Perhaps Anakin can finally bring balance to the force by turning Kylo / bringing back Ben Solo just in time to save the day. Two Skywalkers standing behind two united warriors facing off against The Emperor.

Lots of cool possibilities and I'm pretty sure I'll be disappointed if both Skywalkers don't make an appearance. It can easily be done in minor ways that will have a HUGE impact with the fans, but not distract or take away from the ultimate triumph which will belong to Rey and/or Ben Solo.

so the Emperor is still alive going against all the Skywalkers alive and dead (original, kids, grand kids)... the dark side is stronger

not that a cartoon trumps the movies, but in the Obi-Wan/Maul episode of Rebels, Obi-Wan flat out says that Luke is the chosen one. He's the one who redeems Vader to defeat Palpatine.

I love the trailer but it still bums me out some that Palpatine is the villain again. I hope there's a terrific explanation for how he didn't die on DSII. Is he just that powerful to cheat death in a seemingly impossible to survive situation? I guess I can accept him as the Lucifer of the story who is only defeated but never destroyed, at least until the end of this one.

Watched it again this morning. Even if it's misleading, I really appreciate JJ Abrams for giving Anthony Daniels some real powerful stuff here. That guy is so committed to Star Wars it's unreal. In 2009 I went to a Houston Symphony Star Wars show at Toyota Center and he was he host. 2 hours of him appreciating the audience, throwing out some 3PO lines, telling stories from behind the scenes. The guy is such a class act.

I will like it if they tie it into his Darth Plageius story in ROTS. (Learning to cheat death.)

I totally get how older fans would feel cheated by that, but for me who grew up in the prequel era, it would feel like a pretty seamless story arc for Palpatine.

I've been throwing out a+ theories for MONTHS now and it takes some rag like the Hollywood Reporter for you to get on board? Ridiculous.

Yeah, I've been on board with that from the very beginning. That scene with Anakin at the water bubble opera ends up being a MASSIVE scene for the whole franchise.

This might have been previously covered, but if the cheat death Darth Plageuis plotline does come through, seems very Voldemort-esque by star wars doesn't it? I guess Lucas may have laid the groundwork before JK Rowling did hers, but would seem quite a bit similar as the ultimate big-bad ending.

It will not be good if they undercut the ending of RotJ

I don't think this will be the case.

I'm still 100% convinced that Palpatine isn't "back back" like some people are saying or like Voldemort was, I think he's going to be a kind of dark side force ghost.

I agree bringing back Palps can feel a bit lazy, but at this point, I think it would be difficult to spin Rey vs Kylo as the ultimate conflict and make it the saga conclusion. It needs something more than that, mostly because the first 2 films were setting up a different scenario...

There are 2 themes that we've seen heavily since TFA:

1. Kylo is in constant conflict to turn and become Ben Solo again. He has tried to literally kill this conflict but he's been unsuccessful. Hate & anger currently drives him because the call to the light remains.

2. Kylo & Rey have an internal / unbreakable connection.

It's a repeating them, much like other things that have come full circle in the saga. IMO, their connection and his call to the light are all connected and Palps will, once again, be the spark that ignites a major change in a character.

We might be surprised at how it plays out, they've already shown Dark Rey after all... but regardless, Palps was probably needed to bring finality to it all.

While I know a lot of you don't delve in the the books, the Aftermath book trilogy covers some of this. While it doesn't address it specifically, the books make it fairly obvious that everything that's been happening (Battle of Jakku, Rise of the First Order) was according to Palpatine's desires.

I know we won't get it, but I've been wanting to see flashbacks to the Battle of Jakku (and Luke wrecking shop) since TFA.

From the books, Luke wasn't at the Battle of Jakku. In fact, he wasn't in the books at all.

That's what really irritates me about those books. The most important character of the OT who we are all dying to catch up with is nowhere in sight

The most important aspect of the ending of ROTJ can't be undercut or undone. Vader turned to the light before his death. He was redeemed through his son. He tried to kill Palpatine and that's all that really matters. Palpatine still being alive doesn't undo Anakin's arc.

In 100% agreement. I don't know why so many people were saying Palpatine's return felt cheap when first announced. Palpatine's whole thing was about cheating death. That promise is literally how he got Anakin to turn. Add in Palpatine's obsession/efforts with clones and this feels perfectly natural to me.

Because in 1983, Darth Vader killed the Emperor to save his own son.

That opera scene with Anakin and Palpatine is still one of my favorite scenes from the prequel trilogy. So great.

I always felt bad for Mas Amedda getting kicked out of his seats. Sheev could be such a jerk to his friends.

I think I remember seeing an interview with Ian McDiarmid talking about how he had a respiratory infection the day they filmed that scene and the voice he uses there is a result of that, but it turned out really well - both quiet for the opera and sinister for what he was saying.

Should have had a hot dog vendor just out of frame listening like "WTF?" the whole time.

Well, Disney and Marvel just blew up my spot on the KoR being the other fallen students from Luke's Academy because this just got released in the comic book world.

  • With the new Jedi school in ruins and fellow students hot on his trail for the murder of their master, Ben Solo flees to the only friend he has left in the galaxya man named Snoke. But Snoke has plans for Benand ideas about the Force that are as dangerous as they are intriguing for the troubled young jedi.
  • If Ben wishes to be truly freethe answers might lie with the dark side. And with the Knights of Ren!
  • But it won't be the first time he's tangled with the Knights. In the past, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker journeys to the Unknown Regions and brings young Ben along for the mission. Can even Luke Skywalker stand against the fabled Knights of Ren?!

The Knights of Ren better be straight up amazing badasses in TROS.

Also, I just realized we haven't seen a single shot of them in three trailers. Only one still of them from the movie and one behind-the-scenes Vanity Fair image. Kind of crazy.
