Re-read the FF7 breakdown, and that ending actually sounds familiar. I can't tell anymore, but there's absolutely no way I've seen four of these things in the theater. Gun to my head, I would have said the Lamborghini-jumping one ends with that comically long runway scene, but I guess not. It's the same sh*t every time, anyway. Dom is on the run from the law while simultaneously somehow working for the law, The Rock is a good bad G.I. Joe or bad good G.I. Joe, everyone else are apparently superheroes as well but not really, and in the end it doesn't matter because they're all just "family," and that's what really counts. That, and stealing things, but only if it's from murderous bad guys who also turn out to be good guys in the end if they're popular enough. Oh, and Lety is dead but not and remembers some things but also doesn't. Kind of like me with this terrible franchise.
I really want to watch these again now.

Jizz was first mentioned in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi junior novelization, authored by Ryder Windham and released in 2017. Comic Book Spoilers Ahead!

I bought a comic book for the first time in 12 years yesterday, the first of a four-issue Snoke set. A 4-issue Kylo Ren set starts on the 25th. I posted some of the preview pages earlier on this thread.

Starts off with younger Snoke training younger Ren on a random planet, holding Kylo in the air with the Force over a long drop and challenging him about his fear. He ultimately drops him but Kylo is able to slow himself before hitting the ground. He asks Snoke if he would have saved him if hadn't saved himself, and Snoke says no, but Luke would have, which makes him weak.

By the way he's already going by Kylo Ren at this point and already has the helmet

They fly to Dagobah next and when Snoke sees the helmet in Kylos' hand he tells them he can't pretend to be Vader, NOT NOW, NOT HERE, and slaps the **** out of him when he doesn't immediately put it down

The next part is in the preview pages - Snoke challenges Kylo to enter the cave, where he fights, and "kills" a phantom of Luke. He turns to leave but phantoms of Han and Leia are there imploring him to come home and telling him "he is loved". He clearly struggles with this and can't strike them, instead using his saber to weaken the structures of the cave to where it collapses, and sort of explodes, as if the Force was "escaping".

Instead of killing the phantoms, he kills the source of them. It definitely lines up with "killng the past" by killing the source of those memories, but the book plays up the connection between him and Leia.

The story ends with Snoke saying "It's a shame you destroyed the cave, it was thousands of years old . I had hoped to bring more apprentices to it." Kylo replies "You won't need any other apprentices."

Snoke looks a lot more upright than we see him in TLJ, sugesting maybe something happens to him in the rest of the arc.

Really enjoyed it overall.

Thanks for the breakdown. Seems like it's going to fill in some blanks nicely.

Curious to hear if they ever dive into why Ben was so compelled by the dark side in the first place. I'd be interested to know when Snoke first started reaching out to him. As TLJ presented those brief flashbacks, it was a little confusing. Ben was training under Luke but Snoke had somehow already started turning him? Had Ben and Snoke actually met by that point or was Snoke "tempting" him psychically? I never quite understood how all that went down.

Snoke and Ben were Facebook friends. That's really all the explanation you need.

Im doubtful that Ben/Snoke meeting will be revealed but that would be great. The Kylo Ren 4-parter is supposedly a lot about the KOR as well as him struggling to push out the light. He looks at least 5 years younger than he does in the movies in this comic, so hopefully they'll throw us a bone. I know in one of the pre-TFA novels, Ben and Luke are out looking for Jedi artificacts. My flyer of an idea would be that Snoke had tampered with one of those artifcats, maybe hoping to lure LUke to him, but Ben touhed it first and got the mental connection.

They hinted at this a bit in the book Bloodline. Ben was away training with Luke when one of Leia's senate rivals revealed that Darth Vader was Leia's father. My guess is that Ben was hurt that he had to find this out when the rest of the galaxy did, which led to resentment and his obsession with his grandfather. That would have given Snoke a pretty good place to start, especially since Luke had also been hiding that secret from Ben.

Yeahhiding it from Ben doesn't make much sense to me. Obviously Leia hides it because she's a politician, but why keep it from your own son, especially when you know how bad secrets can be based on your own experience?

Oh, wow. That's actually really interesting, to the point where I wish that could have somehow been part of the sequel trilogy itself. As is, it just feels like all the really interesting stuff, to get our characters and the galaxy to where they were at the beginning of TFA, happened in between trilogies. Granted, the timing of the Lucasfilm sale and the ages of the original three actors obviously had a lot to do with where the story picked up, but leaving the original trilogy on a such a high note, then to come back 30 years later and be like, "Actually, everything sucks again! The Empire is essentially back, Luke is missing, Han and Leia broke up, oh, and they also had a kid who turned out to be evil!" Again, I get it, but actually watching Ben learn that his grandfather was Darth Vader would have been such a great place to start the sequel trilogy. And it makes total sense why Leia, Han, and Luke would have kept that from him. That would have been such a cool way into all of this.

I disagree. I like that it gave Leia, Han, and Luke a flaw. Yes, they should have been open and honest, but I can totally understand the overcorrection on their part. They were ultra paranoid that any connection to or temptation from the dark side via the Vader connection could lead down the wrong path. But it's that very LIE that leads down the wrong path instead. That's great family drama, and I can totally get the impulse to want to just sweep that whole thing under the rug.

One of my favorite parts of the old Heir to the Empire series by Zahn was Lando and Luke pinned down by some pirates and Lando calls out "YOu sure you want to do this? I got Luke Skywalker here! THe guy who took down Darth Vader!" Luke almost says out loud that this isn't technically true until he realizes it will make the situation much easier to manage.

It'll be interesting to see if they do tie that whole plot point into this movie since the author didn't actually say what the message was that Leia sent to Ben. The book just that she broke down into tears after recording it to send to him. Maybe it could be in some kind of flashback or Kylo watches the recorded message during this movie?

Man, this has my wheels turning again...

- Episode VII could have instead been all about Ben. He's late teens to mid-20s and being trained by Luke at Luke's Jedi Academy, or has potentially already completed his training and is basically the Obi-Wan to Luke's Qui-Gon, re: The Phantom Menace. As I've proposed multiple times before, The First Order hasn't yet revealed themselves. So the inciting incident is a surprise attack by The First Order on some notable star system, to the shock of Leia, the galaxy, etc. A senate hearing is called as to how best to respond, an argument breaks out, and THAT'S when one of Leia rivals in the senate reveals that Vader was Leia's father. Ben finds out and is pissed that the secret was kept from him, and the rest of the movie is essentially Ben being turned by Snoke while Luke is trying to ready Ben/the other padawans for their inevitable confrontation with The First Order. Out of the frying pan and into the fire. But Ben finally turns, overthrows Luke, and convinces a few other students to join him in the process (the Knights of Ren), kills the rest. Then Luke doesn't so much go into exile as part of some depression, he's simply being hunted now, so he retreats into hiding to regroup.

- Episode VIII is then some combo of TFA and TLJ, but also re-imagined, set, say, five or so years after VII. Because the second half of TFA is such a retread of A New Hope, and so much of TLJ is stalling tactics and worthless casino stuff, surely there's a way to combine the best of the two movies while also doing something new / something we all wanted. But we meet Rey just the same. We saw Ben's story in VII, and now we're introduced to the light who's going to rise up to meet the dark. And what if Luke goes into hiding on Jakku instead? And meets Rey that way, discovering a new apprentice he can now train to take on Kylo/The First Order? Sure, it might be a little coincidental, but that's also kind of The Force's thing. Heck, it could still even be somewhat of A New Hope redo, if that's the mandate, only way more interesting; Luke in the Obi-Wan role, hiding out on a desert planet, taking on a padawan who will help fight The First Order. Then Luke "dies" in a showdown with Kylo toward the end of the movie, same as how Vader "killed" Obi-Wan. We see history repeat itself, but Rey will be the one to break the cycle once and for all...

Anyway, if that doesn't work, VIII in this iteration could have obviously gone a number of ways, but all I know is that VII would have been so much more interesting as outlined above, and it wouldn't have left us all scratching our heads and asking all the questions we did as to how the galaxy was again in the state it was in. We could have SEEN all of that happen, and still kept everyone's ages roughly the same.

I don't think you can leave Rey out of VII when she is the main protagonist of the ST.
TCTTS

Ha, it's my iteration, though, and in my iteration Ben would be the primary focus. Rey's story has never felt like it deserved the #1 spot anyway, especially after VIII, which gave her almost no arc and removed her from the climax almost entirely.
TCTTS

Ideally, the Episode VII I outlined above would have been like Episode 6.5 or something. If they could have broken tradition and done a movie to set up the sequel trilogy. So an even 10 movies in the Skywalker Saga. Or 6.5 was a feature length animated movie or something. I just think WAY too much great story happened between VI and VII as is that needed to be conveyed in some way other than books and comics.

Has this been discussed -

What if the Skywalker referred to in The Rise od Skywalker... is Ben?

Remember how the first teaser ended on a heroic version of Kylo's Theme, which was certainly interesting.
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I definitely think he'll be redeemed. Now, whether he dies in the wake of that redemption, I'm not sure. Would it be weird for him to "Rise" - thus fulfilling the title - but then die shortly after?

Seeing as I've already done my TLJ rewatch, one line that stuck out to me this go-around was Rey straight up telling Kylo, "It's not too late" [for him to change]. So the filmmakers themselves, along with Rey, have basically given him permission to be redeemed, despite so many fans saying that Kylo killing Han was a deal-breaker.
bobinator
How long do you want to ignore this user?

It's been discussed a bit, but a couple of problems with that. The first is, obviously, that his name isn't Skywalker.

But the bigger issue is that surely there's no possible way we're going to get a 100% redemption arc for him. Like TCTTS, I think he's going to have a redemption arc, but dude murdered Han Solo ON SCREEN in cold blood. The only way he gets a full redemption is to die in the process, and then the title wouldn't make much sense.
