That's definitely the impression I'm getting.
Just glancing some tweets on TheForce.net there appears to be a lot of media who have been Pro Star Wars but left TROS underwhelmed.

I will also say that with the exception of ANH & Empire there has always been a few scenes that just don't work in these films. Like I wish I could be the editor
and take out about 15-20 minutes.

I would be interested in knowing if that hypothesis is actually true or not. Because if it does turn out to be true, doesn't it kind of confirm the "internet fanboy" critics of the last Jedi and their critique of the Hollywood critical reaction to that movie?

There is so much at stake to end this SAGA. Again I am not apologizing for it. Have no idea. But how to end this to bring all the fans together/honor the past/ send off those who are no longer here/ AND pick up pieces where TLJ left.

I'd say more than half of the reactions tonight were from fanboy journalist types, but this reminds me that tomorrow (Tuesday) we'll be hearing more from the run-of-the-mill critics, as Disney is basically screening the movie all day in LA/NY. There will still be plenty of fanboy reactions as well (which I'd count Rocha a part of, in the broadest terms), but tomorrow is when sh*t could potentially hit the fan with the non-fanboy types.
Personally, the negative reactions don't deter me one bit. Why?

Will we have scenes that directly refute RJ? Like the parents thing was a lie and Rey's parents are important?
I'm curious if this will feel like Enders Game... lots of ground to cover so the movie sprints from one plot point to the next.
On one hand I'm really glad to hear about the fan service... but on the other that might be its downfall. The first 2 spent so much time focusing on new characters that it may feel rushed and cheap depending on how much they try and bring back into this one.
I'm still super hyped... it will be entertaining, no doubt, just need to keep my fanboy expectations in check.

The mistake was probably TLJ being immediately after TFA, but I put the blame for that on JJ. Not sure how else you start TLJ unless they would have been willing to do a time jump.

Somehow I am actually awake. To reinforce what pretty much everyone has been saying, my sisters are film/writing students and watched with a different set of eyes than I did. They love Star Wars but think this was a crap movie and preferred TLJ.
I just want to be entertained and admit alot of the fan service had its intended effect on me. Some of the spoilers out before the movie were true and almost had my eyes rolling as they unfolded on screen, but there were a couple things I was not expecting that made my jaw drop. By the end credits I felt overwhelmed/emotionally drained. The movie was one hell of a ride.
