They have like actual paper scripts? I assumed these kind of things were digital only at this point.
Yep, I'm very surprised they had paper scripts.

I say this as someone who does a fair amount of presenting

I cannot i.agine having to rehearse lines with a digital tablet vs paper print outside.

Would digital be more secure or less? I don't know.

i'm surprised they let actors:
a) have the whole script
b) take it offsite.

I thought they only got pages on a need to know basis and they weren't to leave the studio.

I guess someone out there knows the script...

Paper is a lot cheaper than getting tablets for everyone on set, plus it doesn't require a battery that has to be recharged.

Obviously paper is cheaper, but he said it was an actor, not just some light and sound guy or whatever and it's not like these folks don't already have tablets/phones/whatever.

I'm surprised that there's not like an app that directors use where you can only access the script if you're in a certain location. I'd think that's what you'd want for everyone that isn't a principal character and then the principles would get tablets that they have to have a code to unlock or whatever.

A big thing for actors is needing to highlight/mark up/notate their scripts. Paper scripts are essential. And they can't always go to a designated room or location to rehearse or memorize their lines. They need to be able to do so at home, in their trailer, etc. So the best that can be done is to just hope they aren't careless when it's something like this.

I'm just kind of surprised by that given all of the secrecy around some of these movies.

Agreed. But I would be shocked if more than five actors or so had the entire script in-full, in their possession.

Digital files are more difficult to secure than hard copies by several magnitudes. It makes sense.

This is my thinking as well. Yes, one could lose a single, physical copy of a script, but the ways in which a digital file could be leaked seem way more disastrous.

yeah, I doubt there are many if any people who ever had a full paper script.

Well that's why I think you'd either have some kind of tablet specifically for this or some kind of encryption app. You obviously aren't just going to toss the actors a pdf.

I'm also wondering who the person was who actually decided to put the script up on eBay but didn't somehow create a backup in some way. I know they're printed on copy-proof paper, but I can imagine it taking more than an hour to at least take a picture of every page. What certainty did Disney have that the person didn't do something along those lines? Or wouldn't go to a message board and at least post a summary?

That, and what kind of cleaning person decides to steal something like this? Seems fairly easy to pinpoint the culprit once the actor realized it was missing.

Not that it really matters, but I feel like there could be a lot more to this story...

If they'd have left it out in the open I'd have assumed they did it on purpose, but since they bought it back that's not the case.

If you walked into a hotel room as a guest and found a few pages of the Episode IX script under the bed, what would you?

I'd call Disney and ask to get to come to the premiere in exchange for giving it back.

Take as many pictures of as many pages of the script as I could, put the script back where I found it, and get out of there as fast as possible. Then debate endlessly with myself whether I was going to read what I was able to take pictures of or not.

They cut out a 23-minute montage of every chick Lando banged from the Ewok celebration until the beginning of Episode IX with the opening line: "Hey, remember that time I blew up the Death Star?"
