There's plenty of "redeaming" features.

1. The scores
2. The sound design
3. The lightsaber fights
4. Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan
5. Padme in a tight outfit

To name a few.

John Williams is a god but he has been phoning it in with the new movies. His prequel work was actually some of the best music in all the movies. And....

I actually really dig the Force Awakens soundtrack. Rey's Theme, Jedi Steps, and Main Title/Attack on Jakku Village are all top notch.

Hmmm.....I used to think when I read things like "George Lucas ruined my childhood" I would just blow it off as over dramatic nerd whining. But now, I think George really did hurt you guys deeply.

While I also really love Rey's Theme, Jedi Steps, and the March of the Resistance, I can't say there's a single theme in the new trilogy that has been quite as good as the main prequel themes:

Duel of the Fates
Across the Stars
Battle of the Heroes

Having seen TLJ 3-4 times now, I'm beginning to rethink my series rankings. There is a lot about TLJ to like, but there is an awful amount that is just plain garbage. I really, really loath the Rose character. Finn was a decent character in TFA but was worthless this time around. I also have found myself disagreeing with the themes in this movie, particularly how just anyone can be Force sensitive. Goes against every other SW movie ever. Brings to mind a line from The Incredibles ... if everyone is special, then no one is ...

I'm trending toward considering TLJ to be the worst of the Star Wars movies, although its high moments still give it enough lift to keep it above TPM and AOTC, barely IMO. I'll have to re-watch it a few more times to get it on more of an equal footing with the number of times I've seen the prequels, perhaps I'll find something that I've so far missed that keeps it above the first two prequels.

The last Jedi seemed like a movie made by someone who had heard a lot about Star Wars and never actually seen the movies. It was like a really bad joke filled with cliches, the next one infinitely worse than the last.

If my kid wasn't watching it with me I would have turned it off when Yoda showed up.
