And to clarify, I get if you're doing a marathon and want to narrow it down to a select few movies. That's not what I'm referring to.

I dunno, I get it... I used to be able to watch/do whatever I want, but it definitely feels like I don't have the time I used to. And I'm unmarried with no kids. My friends that have that on their plate barely have time for anything it seems like.

A two-hour movie seriously does seem like something you have to budget for timewise when you have a family.

Fry - Not only did he lose, he did so after Forest Whitaker's character interfered on his behalf! His cheating his way back to the thrones was my biggest issue with an otherwise good film.

FL_Ag - your are correct in that it must end by yielding or death, however, when he was thrown off the cliff, everyone (including his mother and sister) thought he was dead, thus at that moment, Killmonger was the rightful king. Then the very first thing the mother, sister and other girl (gf?) do is try to overthrow that king. They became the enemy once they started their quest to overthrow the king simply because they didn't get the outcome that they wanted.

Being that the reaction to T'challa's loss was very similar to the aftermath of the last Presidential election, I'm not surprised that this wasn't an issue with the majority of the movie's fans. However, just because they didn't have a problem with the way the family acted after the loss, doesn't change the fact that, at that moment, T'challa's family is technically an enemy of the state.

Ummm, ok I guess, if you insist on getting super political with it and believing the movie is some sort of allegory on America's current climate and the last election. I chose to watch it simply as a comic book action movie that introduced me to a cool character who'll be a part of the next phase of cool Marvel movies. I'm glad I didn't watch it with the same predispositions some of you did.

Seeing a lot of these "Do I have to see [X] before I see Infitity War?" questions. I get that people are incredibly busy, as am I, but who has time to post on TexAgs AND go see Infinity War in theaters but doesn't have two hours to knock out Black Panther? I've never seen so much time devoted to wondering if one should take the time to watch a movie.
Are you equating going to see a movie to the seconds it takes to make a post on TexAgs? Life happens. People may have kids and crazy schedules with work. Taking two hours (more like 3+ when you include drive time) isn't always possible.

Do you work a 8-5, have a wife, and have kids?

I leave for the gym a little after 7 AM and am back home around 9 AM. I then leave my house at 10 AM and am back home around 8:30 PM. That's for my primary company. I then work another hour or so (plus the weekends) every night for my other company, and then do maybe an hour of TV or reading every night after that. In bed by midnight. So my plate is pretty damn full.

But if there's something I really want/need to watch, and time is an issue, I'll break it up in 30 minutes increments over a few nights or knock it out over the weekend.

I get that family commitments are a massive hurdle, though. I don't have kids, but I have nieces and nephews under the age of five, and I see first hand how hard my sister and her husband have to juggle work, kids, etc. Still, their kids are in bed by 8 and even they take a couple hours or so every night to decompress / watch whatever.

But I get it. I don't want to debate who's busiest and I'm not saying most people aren't as busy as the say they are. There are certain posters, however, who seem to be on TexAgs all the time, and it's like they want people to know how busy they are by saying how little time they have to watch stuff. It just comes across as disingenuous from time to time.

In all fairness I do a lot of my TxAg posting on the crapper. If I were to try to use that time to watch a movie instead, pfffft, you're talking about taking 10 to 20 craps watching the movie!

This x Eleventy billion

Just between work and coaching 3 teams for two kids (which is a 7-day a week job), free time is precious.

Heck, I thought I was doing good being able to cram in SEVEN movies in the last couple of weeks, much to my wife's chagrin.

Anyway my question with regards to Black Panther was only if it was essential to see for background info prior to seeing Infinity War....

Essential?.....no, if you want you can read a summary on the movie and get the gist of what Wakanda is and who these characters are. But watching black panther does give you more of an appreciation for them when they show up in Infinity War.

I apparently never finished Civil War (I'd seen the first 30 minutes)....so I was confused about a few things.

But it's a Marvel movie...not exactly the toughest nut to crack when it comes to story line.

You'll be fine if you're not caught up.

My one sentence comparing the aftermath of the election and T'challa's loss was "super political"?

If you prefer, you can skip over that single sentence and then the post instantly becomes not super political. I made a simple comparison to an event that I believe had a similar reaction. If LA would have tried to get the results of the World Series overturned, I would have used that as an example. I would have compared that part of the movie to any event where people didn't get their way after losing fair and square, and immediately turned to try and get the results thrown out.

I went to see the movie on the first Thursday it was out and had the same view as you - I was going to see an awesome movie showing us more of a character that was only slightly used previously. Nothing more. For the most part, I wasn't disappointed. However, after thinking about the movie more, I was bothered by how they had T'challa lose clean with interference on his behalf and an immediate attempt to overthrow the king. I would have much preferred some interference that helped Killmonger win or gain the edge or after Killmonger becomes king and if he essentially threatens the whole world and Wakanda, the group attempts to overthrow. But as it stands, they were disappointed that they didn't get their way and immediately went to overthrow the king. No predispositions there, no complaints about political or non-political things, just my thoughts on where the movie could have been improved.

Now, even with the issue that I had with the movie, I will still be there on Thursday night for #2, but it will still bother me that they handled T'challa the way they did.

Finally saw the movie this week, had high expectations based on what what I was hearing and the amount of hype. I enjoyed it but not as much as I thought I would.

Was trying to put my finger on everything I didn't like, and then I saw this yesterday and it captured it perfectly:

Honest Trailer

Glad I saw it, but likely will not be seeing it again.

I wasn't let down to see it took 14 pages of this thread to get to actual reviews.
I will help the helpless, but I don't care about the clueless.

I don't mind the royal family becoming enemies of the state. Killmonger is a murderer and was definitely going to hunt them down next. He was going to bring war to the rest of the world. IMO it'd be like getting hung up on whether or not Hydra and the Winter Soldier had a legal grounds to launch helicarriers into the air, and if Cap had a right to break the law to stop them.

Maybe not 100% apples to apples, but Killmonger was bad news.

Finally got around to see it so I'm safe to see IW ASAP.

It was OK. Not the best but not terrible (only Hulk was terrible). And I like them all, so I haven't really ranked them.

One thing...they talked about the suit absorbing kinetic energy to redirect back, but it seemed like that got ignored later on, and instead of gathering energy from a really big blow, it disabled the suit and the helmet disappeared.

Anyway, the fights in Korea were fun, both in the casino and in the street. The gorilla king dude was good, Killmonger was really good, Klaue was funny, and the sister was great. Mom and gf were lame, and they did cheat to get the throne back. And the armor covered rhinos were lame.

I think that covers it.

The suit would disappear later on not because of hits that were taken but because black panther or killmonger were near the magnetic stabilizers that kept the magnetic train from going too fast. The stabilizers somehow interfered with the suit.... don't ask me to explain any more than that, it's comic book technology, just go with it.

Hmmm, can't remember those moments off the top of my head. But I feel like, while the "kinetic energy converter" aspect of the suit added a cool scene or two, all in all it was too much. It almost pushes BP into "overpowered" territory.

I'd have to watch it again to narrow down the exact scenes, so we'll just go with that.

Very, very, very late to the party. Finally saw the movie on a flight today. Had heard it was the best movie ever made, and that is was overhyped due to politics. I think it is a little of both.

I absolutely loved it. It was obviously political, just like winter soldier, and likewise was well written and well acted. The action was solid, story was as good as any comic book based movie to date ( tied with iron man 1), acting was solid all around. Most movies have flaws, especially acting flaws that bug me. None in this flick. just a good movie all around.

By no means the best movie I've ever watched, but definitely one of the best Marvel movies to date. I put it behind infinity war, and tied with iron man 1, guardians 1, and winter soldier for second tier. As a book nerd I put writing above all else, and his was one of the best in recent years for writing/story. A little more humor would have pushed it over the top for me, but still a great work.

Man, the more I think about this movie the less I like it. I even read the comics arc the movie is based on last year.

It's just really meh to me and I put it near the bottom of the Marvel movies. No where near Winter Soldier from a story perspective.

In hindsight, Martin Freeman was spot on casting
for that character in the comic yet they did not leverage that character even once in a way that was like the comic. In the comic, he was a comedic foil and fish out of water who was constantly getting himself into trouble he couldn't handle. No hint of that here. Maybe a directors cut has more.

And I thought the action was bottom tier of any of the movies.

Anywho, maybe I'm in the minority on this one.

I was also taking my first 787 Dreamliner flight ( amazingly bumped to first class) and May or may not have had too many Woodfords.
