It's even worse here though because the Black Panther is entirely fictional. There is a 0% chance that the Black Panther's political ideologies ever impact the world. It's just dumb people being dumb.

What?

You mean there are no vigilante black African leaders running around in techno cat suits living out some post-colonial Africa revenge-porn while they go to various other countries and to enforce their own law in violation of the other country's sovereignty?

I am really looking forward to this movie, but the politics around it are starting to ruin it before I even buy a ticket.

That tweet is such a slap in the face to Denzel, Will Smith, Eddie Murphy, Wesley Snipes, Samuel L. Jackson, etc.

Ha. That I have a "social agenda" is news to me. I literally said the "black" angle of this movie interests me strictly on a box office basis and have never even alluded to anything otherwise. And for the life of me, I cannot fathom how you can extrapolate what I said in that link as "the Spider-man reboots failed because Peter Parker was white." That thought has literally never crossed my mind. I was simply saying that I wouldn't throw a hissy fit if they happened to make him black.

I swear, it's so incredibly sad how desperately some of you actively want certain people/groups to rail against, so much so that you'll create narratives out of thin air. You straight up enjoy drawing imaginary lines the sand just to feel better about your own views and positions, and that is supremely ****ed up.

I'm not your enemy, dude. Our social views align probably way more than you think, but you're too busy pegging me as some liberal Hollywood elite or whatever to understand that.

Getting the word out??

Who doesn't know about this film?

This isn't some indie girl scout troop film at the local theatre raising money for saving sea turtles or something. It's one of the biggest films of 2018 and is being treated as such.

Speaking of getting the word out, I'm volunteering for a fashion show in Houston on March 2nd and we are still selling tickets. Proceeds go to Free The Captives, a charity that helps victims of human trafficking. We are also selling candles that are made by our girls and desperately need to sell out by May 1st so they can pay the same number of girls this coming summer to make the next batch of candles.

What if a paid movie critic doesn't think the movie is that good? Should the media "combat" (go to war) against this person because of our country's history of oppression?

Is that true and just? I mean, we can't have anyone dare to offend anyone else in this day and age.

You're exactly right. We can't. But too many rouges like this so-called "critic" will try to stop progress and offend.

Criticism and free speech are obviously totally fine. What needs to be combatted are unjust criticisms that say more about the speaker or writer than the cinematic content itself. We saw this with the Ghostbusters update.

This is an important cultural and political moment for many in the African-American community (the Time cover story makes that extremely clear). So, again, please help if you can, with ticket purchases the first week, and by lifting your voice.

Don't get so defensive.

I never said you're my enemy or anything remotely close to that.

You're a good poster and bring a lot of quality info to this board.

However, you do have a tendency to get really defensive when someone is ambivalent over a movie with SJW themes.

When you get on your soapbox, I've learned to roll my eyes and move on. I suggest others do the same (that's all that my post was saying).

Yeah, considering it's not fact.

Also, considering you brought up a two year old post essentially out of no-where, I'd say that falls under the "anything remotely close" description of your statement:

Yes you are. He was saying why Hollywood would choose to go that way and how it shouldn't matter if he's not white. He wasn't expressing his personal desire for a black spider man. You're making that up on your own.

Again, your reading comprehension is terrible. Not to mention a two or whatever year old thread has nothing to do with this film.

And just for giggles to quote the thread in question:
Quote:

I'm simply arguing that there is nothing about Peter Parker that screams "white." He could just as easily be a skinny black nerd living in Queens. That's my only point.

I could have also bump his other rants about Wonder Woman, Ocean's 8, Ghostbusters, and his thread about the Politics board, but I didn't care enough.
