About 3/4 of it is really really good...but that 25% is hard to ignore.

He keeps throwing in big moments, out of nowhere in nearly every episode. We got another one this week.

"Im gonna run over here and get the horse.....whats that over there, a bear? Oh, and a couple Asians hanging off a cliff ?!?!"

I'm so torn on this show. I keep coming back for the grandness of it: the locales and the actors. I love it all.

It's the storyline that's so infuriating. The overall arc of the dysfunctional family is good, but it's the random events propelling the episodes that just make me shake my head.

In consecutive episodes, Kayce just happens to be driving by: 1) a trailer/meth lab that explodes and 2) a meth-related kidnapping. And both situations require him to fire off his gun. What?

And before she even parks her car, Kayce's wife has to run and break up a school fight where she gets punched so hard, she's bleeding from her head.....and the school nurse wraps her head up and sends her home. What? No. Hold on.

And we've now had four separate scenes where a bear shows up in the last two episodes. It's even brought up that the diverting of the river could affect the bears fishing food source. Anyone want to make a wager this pays off in the final episode? Maybe someone gets mauled?

And the Japanese tourists..........oh God. The first time they showed up was funny. They were passing through on a tour bus and saw a bear and pulled over to get pictures. Fine. Random, but I can see that. At least one to two days pass and Wheeler runs across two of them....who've gotten lost and SOMEHOW fallen off a cliff and are hanging on for dear life. How? First off, it doesn't make any sense. They are obviously from that bus tour group. Did they wander off when they stopped for the bear days earlier? And no one noticed they were gone? Did the bus come back later so people could go hiking? On the largest private ranch in America? After the owner scared them off by firing a rifle in the air to get them to leave? What in the hell were those people even doing there???!?? It made no sense whatsoever. This is from the guy who wrote Sicario and Hell or High Water.

I had such high hopes for this show. Really, it's Costner and the scenery that keep me coming back each week. These storylines suck.

It's caused by extending a 3-4 hour miniseries level story over 10 episodes.

It's bloated.

Yeah, it's not great unfortunately. There's enough good to keep watching (mainly the location and cinematography) but it's disappointing coming from Sheridan. I'm entertained enough, but it's not up to par with his other work.

I'm twenty minutes into this latest episode and I'm almost done.

First, "treasure hunters" steal the bones off the reservation land and completely demolish all the mobile homes, the barns, corral, etc in broad daylight without anyone noticing. Why all the destruction? Because reasons.

The very next scene, Rip and the federal agent have a very convenient "accident' where the agent's horse is spooked and she is thrown off and onto a fence post. Which, of course, would look bad if she dies as it'll look like Rip tried to kill her because he's in trouble for shooting that bear.

And then the next scene is the rich developer and the Indian chief going over their plan to build a casino. When the developer expresses concern selling his land to the Indians, the chief throws out "no more lawyers, you've got to trust me." Yeah, there is no way in hell anyone with a brain cell would actually do this without lawyers. He didn't get extraordinarily wealthy by ignoring his lawyers.

Then, we get the lesbian investigative reporter saying that rich, white men are "everything that's wrong with this country." Of course, she's from Seattle, hates white men and is a lesbian. Just going down the SJW checklist on this character.

Oh, and now I see that Kayce is pumping gas and is approached by a strung-out dude asking for ten bucks for gas. When he refuses, the guy pulls a knife and Kayce beats him half to death in front of several witnesses.

I think I've about had enough. The plot lines and mind-numbing coincidences are just God-awful.

I'm watching this with my wife, so I'll finish this season. But, I think this is it for me.

If they can promise dead Japanese tourists, the premise of the show will drastically change, but it will be a much more enjoyable show

I can't believe TAYLOR Sheridan's name is attached to this ****

I'm just about done, let's see if yesterday's episode has dead japs in it...

Speaking of this scene, seemed like their whole plan was to make property values skyrocket so he couldn't afford his taxes. I'm not really well versed in ranch tax laws, but wouldn't he have some kind of exemptions protecting him fro this?

That's exactly what I said to my wife.

And Property values wouldn't 'double overnight'. If they did, the entire town wouldn't be able to afford the taxes.

It seems per the daughter/assistant scene that the rich developer isn't so 'rich'. His capitulation to the Indians isn't so far fetched based on that.

Wow you people are rough. This is Sheridan's first TV show, its not perfect but I've enjoyed it. How many of the people *****ing on about Yellowstone loved Sons of Anarchy? SOA had plenty of unbelievable stuff in every episode.

I'm still in. It's one of the best comedies on tv right now

Yeah, I gave up on that pretty quickly too. It was good at first, but became too corny.

I like Yellowstone. It's a good filler show for 45 minutes a week. The acting is pretty good, the scenery is amazing, but the story is really convenient/cheesy. I wish they'd slow it down a bit. Stop having such monumental things happen every episode.

I'd rather see a few seasons of the prequel/backstory from the flashbacks.

Watching now and just finished the scene where Kayce beats the crackhead, and I'm with you on all of this... This show is so bad. I don't understand how it's the same Taylor Sheridan.

And the Fish & Wildlife agent on the horse, wow... maybe the worst scene I've ever seen.

The thing is I don't think there are any real substantial storylines going on.

It's very jumbled with no continuity. It's almost like Sheridan has severe AD/HD and doesn't let things develop. Just jumps from one thing to another really quickly with no transitions.

It's already to the SOA status in that I'm just watching because I've already started.

Really really disappointing.

I agree. Slow it down and focus/expand on a story or two. Not 7 every episode.

Overall I think this show has been a flop.

There have been some good moments and maybe a good episode or two but in general it's just not very good. It's Sons of Anarchy on a ranch.

Pretty disappointing with both the hype and potential it has.
America doesn't agree with you. It has the highest ratings in cable behind the Walking Dead.

And yeah, its not believable. But who wants reality? I can just drive to West Texas to the 6666 Ranch if I want that.

I can't wait to watch tonight.

And the Walking Dead is another one of those shows that most people still watching it can't explain why.

SoA and WD are two shows that started out great, then dropped off a cliff and most viewers stuck with it because they invested so much time into them they wanted to see it through to the end.

Yellowstone has high ratings because A) it's new in a sea of reruns B) a great cast & cinematography and C) hopes that it will live up to expectations.

We'll see if enough people are really enjoying the whole thing or can look over it's imperfections when it comes back for Season 2. I think this thread shows there are a lot of people who were disappointed and may not return.

Did Sheridan not have a role outside of the acting in SOA?

cable networks can technically do whatever they want - the FCC rules about nudity, language, etc. govern over the air networks not cable networks.

just historically cable networks have avoided it as they did not want to offend and as they are based on advertisers money they kept it clean. Premium channels of course showed it but they are based on subscriber dollars not advertisers.

FX and Sundance have shown nudity before in some drama shows.

This is definitely the first time I've seen full-on stripper nudity on a basic cable channel. Heck, even Sons of Anarchy censored THAT, and they had hooker scenes all over the place!

Oh, and in Dallas during the broadcast they had a local commercial for The Lodge (strip club) where a husband was going out with the boys and had to get a box labeled "Mike's Balls" from his wife. So I guess they're tapping into a different set of advertisers, ha.

Watched the finale during lunch. I thought it was interesting but ultimately disappointing like the series. It's just so uneven.

I can't decide if it's right for me to downgrade the show because it's relatively close to being good and because it's trying to put on the trappings of a smart show, or if I should accept it for what it is.

I can't shake the feeling that the show is mostly a missed opportunity for something better.

Last 2 eps were my 2 favorite of the year. Not groundbreaking but they worked well enough and set a good scene for s2.

Hopefully Taylor had enough time to learn from mistakes but they're already shooting season 2 so maybe he didn't.

In the end it was all over the place but just enough to keep my attention for a summer show.
