Maybe I'm just a curmudgeon but that doesn't look very good imo

Yeah, tough for me to get excited about this -- director without any real horror chops and a "re-branding" of the series yet again.

Looks like they are hoping having Carpenter's name attached as executive producer and starring Curtis will bring people in, but most know better at this point.

I'm guessing it will be much like Rob Zombie's attempt -- a few above average scenes but overall a well below average movie.

I'm pleased to say......I liked it. It was cool.

Okay, now trying to figure out the timeline: is this one dismissing ALL the sequels? Including II?

They make a point saying that Loomis shot Michael and Michael was taken into custody. I'm assuming they found him soon after he fell from the balcony, because if II happened, then he would have had to have survived the explosion and burning at the end. Not really an issue for me. They did that in part IV and I enjoyed that one.

HOWEVER, they do say that the whole "Michael is Laurie's brother" subplot from II was just a myth. In which case, he's just going after her because she's "the one that got away." And I'm fine with that, too. She's so emotionally scarred that she has lived her whole life thinking that he was coming back for her, anyway.

All in all.....sure, why the hell not? I'll buy a ticket right now based on that trailer.

Also, one more big thing:

100% of the music from that trailer was from Carpenter's original score. If they wanted to just use that same music for this whole movie and not feel like they have to "update it" for 2018, I'd be perfectly fine with that.

At least they're acknowledging the brother/sister thing and not dismissing it altogether? That's something.

But if it can somehow match the atmosphere of the original, then I will be very pleasantly surprised. (Favorite horror movie ever.)

Although, with Carpenter's involvement, I wouldn't be surprised if he updated/re-recorded the score. (Using the same original themes.)

I think some will over-estimate Carpenter's involvement as a great thing.

I love John Carpenter, but the guy hasn't directed a competent film in 20 years and the films he's attached himself as "executive producer" of have for the most part been completely crap... It's the equivalent of "Wes Craven Presents".

Just don't know....

Absolutely. Its almost a secondary theme at this point.

I get that they're going for a a sequel after the original... it dang it Halloween 2 made sense...since it took place the same night...

And in the interest of objectivity and managing expectations, here's the 2 negative ones I found.

They should use those fake cell phone calls I keep getting from my own number in a viral marketing campaign for this movie.

The new score is done by John Carpenter himself and will be available October 19th.

While it starts out just sounding like pretty much the original......wait until about 1:15 in. Then it gets pretty intense.

If you like his movies (and scores) and you get a chance, go see him in concert if he tours again. He's done a few non-movie albums, but the bulk of the concert is scenes from his movies with him and his band playing the scores. I was reluctant, but came away very entertained.

This reminds me that some theaters show the original in October. Went last year and it was a blast! Can't wait!

Currently tracking ahead of A Quiet Place and predicted to open at up to $85M on the high end.

Wild bit of Halloween trivia I recently read:

PJ Soles was dating Dennis Quaid at the time and they wanted him to be in the film as her boyfriend. He couldn't because he was working on another film.

Total domestic box office of the last 4 movies:

H20 - $55 M
H8 - $30 M
H1 (RZ) - $58 M (Highest grossing in the franchise)
H2 (RZ) - $33 M

And this is currently tracking to OPEN at $60M+.

Even if it "only" hits $45M or so, that's still an incredible opening for this franchise.

The solid reviews will surely help, as well as actually opening in October. (I still can't make sense of opening Halloween movies in August.)
