Small nitpick: Gendry goes out of his way to call himself Gendry Rivers. He was born in King's Landing which means he should either be called Gendry Waters or just Gendry with no last name. I could even have understood if they went with Gendry Storm, but where did Gendry Rivers come from?

He is Tormunds now. And no WAY Tormund is gone for good.

Ghost isn't done.
That was pretty clearly a goodbye scene for Tormund. How/why do you think he returns?

I loved how the ballistas, fired from small ships bobbing on waves, shredded a flying dragon from half a mile away; the US Navy couldn't have made that shot. You could practically hear the last-minute brain-storming session in which the writers said "well we need to kill a dragon so... sh*t, ballistas?" It reminded me of the "Thank God we invented the..., you know, whatever device," scene from Thank you for Smoking in which they're discussing how they'll explain away smoking on an oxygen-filled space station in an upcoming movie.

For years, Game of Thrones' main draw was its merciless realism. They've completely dumped that for all the same Hollywood plot and character cliches. Definitely still a fun show, but not the same one of 2-3 seasons ago.

I think Jon said "hope to see you again one day" and Tormund said "you never know".

The question of me in the upcoming battle will be if Euron stays true to Cersei or turns the second things look bad. He made the comment to Yara in episode 1 he could switch sides if things weren't going Cersei's way. Now that he thinks the Cersei's baby is his, maybe that keeps him true.

Regarding the baby -- and this is from season 7 filming -- it was confirmed that during season 7 filming there were scenes with Cersei having a miscarriage. It didn't make it into that season and I doubt it will make it in now, but its interesting that they decided to cut that part out and keep the baby in play. I assume it will have some purpose in upcoming episode.

Yes, the merciless realism of GOT. Such as dragons, a woman surviving being burned alive, and a witch birthing a death angel. Yes the true draw of GOT... merciless realism.

Not the mention the force it would take to fire a ballista at that distance and rate of speed. You put it all on a floating ship it isn't going to work.

Opening scene of the battle at KL:

All the scorpions are aimed at Dany and her small army. Cersei has them dead to rights.

Suddenly, magical portals start opening all around them.

And through the portals enter:
Tormund & Ghost with a wilding army;
the Dorne army;
the Tully army;
the Second Sons;
Brienne & Pod;
The Hound & Arya;
Jaime;
Nymeria & her band of wolves;
Jon leading the Unsullied & Dothraki;
a ghost Stark army;
and Howland Reed.

Music swells.

I pray to the old gods and the new that they do this or similar.

I was surprised that Dany made Gendry a lord of southpaw storm troopers. If she's meant to be the queen of the 7 kingdoms, doesn't making him a lord give him power to challenge the throne?

So I'll watch it again, but on my TV those arrows were really hard to see in flight. My assumption was that 100 of them were shot and 3 of them landed. And that the only reason Dani's dragon wasn't hit was because she was behind the other one.

An equivalent force to what was happening on the other ships that were being hit by the arrow would have been imparted to the ship that was shooting at the time of firing. The ships would have experienced some kickback if they were firing the equivalent of cannonballs (which was basically what was happening to the ship being hit). Also, those type of weapons rely on huge amount of potential energy being built up slowly through mechanical means. You can just reload one like it was fired by energy stored in gunpowder.

JFC this is turning into Walking Dead and their sparking bullets. 1,000+ years of how to defeat dragons? Oh, hey. Small bows don't work. I know! BIG bows. That only face in one direction. Mounted on a ship, with a giant wooden pole and a sheet of clothe the size of a house blocking your aim. *****, swing around and come in from behind.

More giant arrows mounted on the castle walls? Out in the open? Anyone think to bring the trebuchets from the previous episode?

And if anyone already brought up "dracarus"....whimper, whimper, whimper.....she's RIGHT NEXT TO YOU. Your hands are shackled, but you can still grab her ass and take a swan dive together. You know your ass is going to die. War over. The end.

It. Is. Fiction. It doesn't have to make sense.

The dead walk (or did anyway). Dragons exist. Sorcerers conjure ghost demons. Blood magic is a thing. Suspend belief in our world and live the story through the fiction.

As far as I can tell, these weapons also only have a field of fire of like 20 degrees vertically. It doesnt look like they can be aimed straight up, which would be like the main thing you need for AA.

At first I didn't care for the episode, but I've let it simmer a bit, and that episode seems to be a much bigger deal to me now. That episode was all about establishing choices and consequences. Does Jon tell his family who he is? Does he disagree with Dany? What happens to Dany when she doesn't listen to anyone? Should Sansa keep her word? What worked to win Essos won't work in Kings Landing, it's a different place and the same options don't apply.

I get the criticism regarding the sneak attack on the ocean when she had the vantage point, bothers me too, but that was about Dany coming to the realization of actions and consequences. Losing a dragon is like losing a child to her, and she also lost Missande, her circle grows ever smaller. She has to change or all is lost for her, period.

I just really enjoyed that the scorpions were obviously firing sabot rounds into the rest of the Targ fleet. True realism

I actually thought a cool finish would have been Dany walking off in rage, Cersei smirking, and then the last dragon coming in from behind breathing fire down on the scorpions posted along the castle walls destroying them. They wouldn't have been able to turn and fire at him in time if he approached from behind or same from the side.

Film him swooping down teasing a Cersei burning but he just destroys the defenses instead and then cut to Dany still walking furiously with the dragon finishing the scorpions off in the background. You then get Cersei cowering in fear and Dany's army did something to flex nuts before the 80 agonizing minutes were over.

Agreed with above Flex proposition. Showrunners want to make good guys look as weak as possible. In any case I am totally fine with Dany burning King's Landing and everyone in it. Southerners did nothing to save the realm from the Night King.
