I'm glad this story arc and battle scene are done with. Let's get back to the story and put a proper wrap on the characters.

The beauty about this series when it started is that it worked without these massive, epic battles. It was a soap opera for sci fi nerds that transcended that genre. Personally, I'd prefer to get away from the "everyone on the same page with known objectives" where the payoff is only nerd porn (ie, massive battle scenes where the storybook hero wins). I want to get back to the petty selfishness and conniving ways as people jockey for power. There may not be enough time to get that, but having these armies decimated by battle does make for a great opportunity to try. At least Cersei has been true to form.

Yeah it's been a while since the books, but didn't basically any battle from the entire war of the 5 Kong's take place off screen? Other than Blackwater Bay.

I'm glad the Night king and wights are all dead.

They were only like 10% of this show.

The show was about the characters who are left, and their quest r the throne. It's ending how it should.

Turns on the Night Kong's whole purpose to the plot was to just be a thorn in Dany's side bc without that battle she wins the throne way too easily.

Now it's at least even vs the golden company + Greyjoy.

Man, I can't disagree more. The night king/white walkers/army of the dead represented Winter incarnate. The battle for the light/summer/life was the opposing force. This story was about that conflict. The opening scene to the ENTIRE series was setting up the white walkers.

And the NK...just died. Now we're supposed to believe Cersei is the true villain to this epic tale? That Jon was resurrected to help dany sit on the iron throne? I...I'll post my detailed thoughts later but I can't think of a more disappointing plot arc.

I see both sides. And I appreciated the mystique of him and his army.

But my favorite things about this show all happened in westeros. And it ending that way is fitting.

Curious, did you want the NK to win? What would you have rather happened?

Have night King battle after dealing with Cersi? Have night King battle and cersie battle at same time? Have night King survive this battle to reemerge later?

Lots of ways they could've gone.
Multiple people have chimed in and if you don't agree then you don't agree - there was going to be no humans + WWs surviving this battle. Not when the NK can just raise the dead. The humans had to kill the NK to leave Winterfell otherwise it would just be the Walking Dead Game of Thrones version coming towards Cersei in KL.

And with how easily overwhelmed the humans were with the dead army, how could they have realistically fought both battles at once?

I agree they could have dealt with Cersei first, but then Cersei wouldn't have the opportunity to betray them, we wouldn't see Jaime finally go against his sister's wishes and progress as a character, and you likely decimate some of your forces BEFORE the big war against the dead, thus likely losing that one and having the NK win it all.

While the NK winning it all was always a possibility in my mind, that's not how it played out. I don't see how the way it played out was any less believable/desirable/logical for anyone that didn't already have their heart set on a random theory.

Edit: and finally, while the book is A Song of Ice and Fire, the show is Game of Thrones. This was always going to be about the throne.

Was the Sansa and Tyrion thing like an in-love thing? Or just a love each other like family thing? I couldn't really tell.

I think just love like family and respect in the end. And let's go out together if it's gonna end like that. Thought it was a let's kill each other at the same moment thing for a second there but it wasn't. Like stab each other simultaneously. Would have been tragic (almost a Romeo and Juliet moment in a way) had they done that right before Arya does her thing.

IDK, but this is the second week in a row that Sansa has looked at a man and a bunch of people think she is in love with them. Might be just how intense she is now.

Ok, I've processed. This was a disaster. I mean it was OK, but given the build, what a fricken let down. You've been building a story for years. Pay it the hell off. Kudos to the Russo's for End Game. This was bad.

The dragons.... meaningless. Jon R+L=J, meaningless. Pay off Ghost and the dire wolves who were threaded in the story since episode 1... Give Ghost a late come back with a howl and Nimeria charging in with all the wolves of Westoros. The internet would have melted.

Dothraki crossing the narrow sea? Meaningless. Aria??! She could have killed the NK 5 ways better. At least let some of the main characters run through the whites and actually fight White Walkers. Not one single WW fight? Horrible.

The Song of Ice and Fire is a Cerci Lannister story. Boo.....

Think this sums up my feelings. The first scene of this show opens north of the wall and you're made known about the threat of death and the coming Winter. Expected something deeper I guess for that resolution. What is Fire and Ice really then?

They just defeated the biggest threat to the living, now let's go fight another human war to end it?
I don't understand what more y'all couldve possibly wanted. The army of the dead built tension for years, defeated the humans at every stop until winterfell, and finally faced off with a huge human army in a huge battle....what more did you want?
Goes back to the last line. The Army of the Dead is supposed to be the largest army ever assembled in the realm. The living just arguably won the greatest battle in their history. If you're still living, you just overcame the greatest odds to survive.

Now we are just going to take a week, lick our wounds, have one feast and be like -- "hey guys, let's go get Cersei now!" I wouldn't give a **** about King's Landing or Cersei if I survived. Why would anyone in the north now care about what is going on in the south unless the Golden Company was marching their way? Get on a damn boat to Essos, leave this **** behind and be thankful you're still alive and live a good life. If I were still living after last night, that would be the last fighting I ever do.

I thought that the battle for life and to end the Long Night would put the quarrels of men into perspective for some of these characters. Maybe there will be conflict upcoming on who will still commit to Dany's cause for the fight for the throne. Just don't see how we are just supposed to band back together after all the fighting these characters have been through for one last fight that means less then what they just went through.

Just seemed like last night's episode was a box check for the writers that lost significance. If this had been episode 5 and really the finale of the series, I wouldn't be feeling this way and honestly satisfied. Just feel like we got our priorities mixed up. The NK, in my eyes, should be the final boss. For all the evil that she has done throughout the series, Cersei still doesn't compare. Final three episodes feel more like a side mission now than a main quest.

Thoughts on what happens going forward:

I would be disappointed if Varys doesn't play some role going forward. For the entirety of the show, he has been plotting to help Dany, even from KL. He might get the Golden Company to flip on Cersei.

Cersei ****ed up by paying off her entire debt because now the Iron Bank has no interest in her winning the war. So, I think that will be a factor as well.

It's all about gathering support from the remaining Seven Kingdoms, and I think Varys and the Iron Bank will be major factors.

Which large armies are still left in play? Dorne?

It's clear a lot of you guys are having a hard time accepting that things didn't go exactly as you expected them to. Jon didn't have an epic battle with a WW (again). Bran didn't reveal how he was actually an inside man for the army of the dead. Headless Ned Stark didn't awaken. The Night King didn't pull of his mask revealing that it was Petyr Baelish the whole time before Nimeria deus ex machina bit his head off.

Theories are fun to fantasize about but y'all end up ruining things for yourselves when they don't turn out how you planned. Plus, half the time y'alls predictions suck anyways.
Yes, a lot of the fan theories were crap or unlikely to happen, but they still could have done more with the show. I'm not even mad that Arya killed the NK. They could have a Jon-NK fight or a WW-anyone fight and still have Arya be the one who kills the NK. Maybe we even think that the NK is about to kill Jon when she suddenly jumps in to save the day in the same way. They could have even had Jon battle the NK for a minute and build up hope that he will beat him only to have the NK raise the dead and just walk away.

Also, the people from the show were hyping this battle up a ton. It was tense for sure, but mostly because I thought some big names were going to die at any moment (but didn't). I love Sam and expect him to survive until the end, but the dude ends up being one of a handful to survive the entire battle? As others have mentioned, no one on the front lines (Brienne, Jaime, Grey Worm, etc.) die? Again, I'm happy that they lived, but it doesn't fit with the show's history or the hype for this episode. I believe some will still die before the end, but it's laughable that they all survived this battle.

And for the record, I think overall the episode was really good. It just wasn't as satisfying as many believed it would be.

I'm torn, I get that the NK and White Walkers are the "final boss" in the sense of the toughest challenge.

But they also were a very very very small portion of the actual screen time this show had.

7 seasons of the best show of all time and they had maybe an hour and a half total screen time?? I'm sure it's really close to that. Other than Hardhome they were only showed in very small spurts.

So with that being said, the battle against them not being the final battle, and it being against the shows most frequent villlain, Cersei, also makes a whole lot of sense.

I was actually glad it was Arya. Put all the time spent training and developing her to use.

But Brienne, Grey Worm, etc. all needed to kick the bucket in this one. Not to go all bloodlust, but I feel a bit robbed given the buildup.

I'm hoping there's some darkness ahead with Cersei. Brienne's main use at this point is to be killed by Cersei (via the Mountain) - finish off Jamie's turn against Cersei. Hound kills Mountain (they both die). Jamie kills cersei

Alt shift x is adamant that the NK is coming back. I think he is in denial, but I hope he is right. Fight with Cersi is going to feel so stupid, especially if they march down to face her in Kingslanding.

I was surprised at how few deaths there were. Though, I think there is some big stuff coming up with Cersei which will claim the other lives we expected lost in the Battle for Winterfell.

1) I think Cersei will take out the last of the Dragons with that big cross bow we saw a few seasons back.

2) Arya has played her part, so she will not be the one to kill Cersei. I think that goes to Jaime.

3) I'm not sure what to think of the NK. He sure looked dead to me. And from watching the post show discussion with the producers, it kind of said they wanted to wrap up that story line to get to the final story line of ruling the seven kingdoms. I'm kind of thinking the NK is dead, but it sure did seem to be a little too easy (said the guy not fighting off 20,000 zombies in the dead of night).

I will say - I'm a little disappointed we didn't have a bigger fan favorite than Jorah/Theon die. I thought Brienne was toast. Her arc felt complete. But maybe there's one or two more things she has to do. I also am surprised they kept both Gilly and Missandei (sp) alive...to me there should have been some heartache with one or both of them dying.

The Hound, Jaime, Sansa, Dany, Jon, Tyrion all had to stay alive because there is still more for them to accomplish. Unless the NK was going to win it all. I'm also not too surprised Gendry is still alive, but I wouldn't have been shocked if he died either.

I could have seen Arya and Varys dying yesterday as well, but again, there may be more for them to do. Arya obviously had to kill the NK, but not sure if they will have more for her or not. I could see her kicking the bucket before the end.

Drogon smashed the big crossbow to bits.

But i do think people are underestimating Cersei. She blew up the whole damn Sept of Baelor. I think she inflicts some big main character damage in some way. Of course, i thought NK would do more too

Why did the Night King not die from fire? Explanation?
Not one battle with the White Walkers?
How did arya get by the WW?

The night king is so cold that fire can't hurt him. He walked through a wall of fire to kill the three eyed raven a few seasons back and his body put the fire out as he walked through it.
