I don't know if I've made this fact up in my head, pulled it from one of the books years back, or saw it on the show, but isn't valyrian steel forged by dragon fire?

On the other hand, I assume dragon glass is obsidian, which Magic School Bus taught me is rock that has melted into lave and then rapidly cooled.

Dragon fire swords
Dragon glass weapons
Literal dragons

These seem to be the keys to jacking up White Walkers.

The secrets of forging valyrian steel were lost during the Doom. Some suspect dragons were involved, because it's Valyria after all. There's also speculation blood magic may be involved.

But for the show purposes, it's a mystery, and will likely remain so.
Just to make sure we're consistent with the show, it doesn't require dragon fire to melt the Valyrian steel, but perhaps dragon fire is necessary in producing the elements imbued into the steel?

Sorry, that's what i meant. That the dragon fire changed the steel somehow. That doesn't explain the dragon glass, though. Molten steel is a hell of a lot hotter (PUNS!) than lava, I think, so it's not just really, really hot forged weapons.

Who knows.

Howland Reed knows.

My new prediction since he is not arriving in Winterfell in time is that when Jon and Dan move south towards KL they stop by and get the truth,... and Dawn to prove it.

just when I thought HBO couldn't gay up Game of Thrones any more than they have

What would be awesome is if The Iron Throne had Valerian steel mixed in it.
Counting on that. Iron Throne is dismantled to finally beat the WW with new forged weapons. Betting all the swords are Valerian, and breaking the wheel is symbolic and literal

So the NK can reanimate the dead. What happens if he goes to KL and we have the Mountain who is already reanimated. Will he control the Mountain?

Where are the rest of the Dothraki? Some are missing. (There were 100,000?)

I don't think he ever died. I think Quburn prevented him from dying but made him zombie-ish in the process.

Dany had 100k Dothraki when she came from Essos. How did that dwindle down to 10k?

Just need to pull everyone back and let the 40 from Bear Island take care of it. Wildlings and Knights Watch can clean up the rest.

I'm curious about the 90% attrition of the Dothraki. Did I miss the numbers in the episode? I knew some losses from the Wagon Train fight but 90K wow.

Going off numbers alone it's a pretty evenly matched fight. Army of the Dead outnumbers the living just a bit under 3/1. Attacking a defensive position the attacker should have at least a 3/1 advantage in numbers. Easier to defend a position than take it. I guess we'll see how good the works that were built were in front of Winterfell

When Dany freed the unsullied she got 8000 trained plus the other 5500 in training. I'd imagine some of them would have advanced though the pipeline and are full fledged members now.

And the missing 90K Dothraki with no explanation is wierd.

Calling a classic GoT forgetting what has been said in previous seasons. See Jon's birth name changing to be his brother's name between seasons

what? Why do you think that was forgetting something?

It was quite intentional. The half brother was dead he was named for him as a tribute.

And there have been like a dozen Aegon's in the books before Jon.

Aegon Targaryen, Lord of Dragonstone before the War of Conquest, the son of Daenys and Gaemon Targaryen
Aegon I Targaryen, called Aegon the Conqueror and Aegon the Dragon, first Targaryen king
Aegon Targaryen, later known as Aegon the Uncrowned, eldest son and heir of King Aenys I Targaryen
Aegon Targaryen, eldest son and firstborn child of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen
Aegon Targaryen, youngest son of Prince Baelon and Princess Alyssa Targaryen
Aegon II Targaryen, called Aegon the Usurper, sixth Targaryen king
Aegon III Targaryen, called Aegon the Dragonbane, seventh Targaryen king
Aegon IV Targaryen, called Aegon the Unworthy, eleventh Targaryen king
Aegon V Targaryen, called Aegon the Unlikely and Egg, fifteenth Targaryen king
Aegon Targaryen, son of King Aerys II Targaryen and Queen Rhaella
Aegon Targaryen, son of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and Elia Martell
