Apparently some theater managers/owners are buying multiple movie passes and having employees use them during slow times/slow movies since MoviePass has to pay 100% of the rate.

I don't know if it this thread but I did mention to someone the price tag is too good to be true. They were making up the difference by collecting your data and selling it off to other parties.

Just imagine how 1/6 would've played out if DC hadn't had such strict gun laws.

Two people starred his post as of the time of this signature. Those 3 people are allowed to vote in the US.

Dear MoviePass Members, Partners and Employees:

While speaking at a conference in Los Angeles, through a mix of exuberance about our future and joking around, I mischaracterized how MoviePass locates our members and I need to fix that. It has raised a lot of concerns and I understand why.

First and foremost, I apologize for these comments and the concern they caused. At MoviePass, we take customer privacy extremely seriously. I would like to eliminate any misconceptions that we're collecting location related data.

The MoviePass app currently uses standard location services capabilities on an opt-in basis. There are only two events that would prompt MoviePass to identify a member's location. These include when a member requests to search for theaters nearby and when a member requests to check into a theater. Both events require both the app to be open and for the member to request the action.

MoviePass does not track and has never tracked or collected data on the location of our members at any point when the app is not active. In our recent update with Apple, we removed the the background tracking capabilities. MoviePass does not use and has never used this feature.

Our goal at MoviePass has always been to encourage people to see more movies as they were meant to be seen -- in the theater. We want to make our service available at a price anyone can afford and everyone can enjoy. While we do create partnerships with theaters and studios in which we offer statistical data on ticket use and other trends, we never share our members' identities or personal information or personal data with anyone.
MoviePass takes its members' privacy extremely seriously, and our current Terms of Use and Privacy Policy accurately state the ways in which we use data. If, in the future, MoviePass desires to expand how it uses data, we will amend our Privacy Policy and notify our members so that they will be afforded the opportunity to opt- in or opt- out of the MoviePass service. This is what our customers expect, what the law requires, and how we've always handled data. We want to assure everyone that we treat our members' data with the utmost sensitivity. Your trust and enjoyment are the lifeblood of our service.

We understand that you may have further questions, so have included an additional FAQ page for your reference.

Warm Regards,

Mitch Lowe

I still can't get my head around how great a deal this is.
AMC Northpark In Dallas last night would have been $14 for one ticket.

Looks like the movie everyday part is going away. If you haven't already signed up yet then your only choice will be a 4 movie a month plan, but if you are currently subscribed you are ok... for now...

Well, this is a surefire sign that it will likely go away for everyone eventually.

It was too good a deal to last.

Same for mine. But I don't see how it will deter people from buying IMAX and paying out of pocket.

1. Buy regular ticket.
2. Get screenshot
3. Exchange for IMAX and pay the difference out of pocket.

MP would never know the difference. I did this for RP1 just last month.

I pretty much get a free popcorn after every other or third movie these days which is fairly frequently on my end. So much cheaper now

Currently on my Regal tier I get enough for a free popcorn every third movie.

And it just so happens to be this weekend. How odd.

Yup. I paid in advanced for mine so i could see it early last night.

At least i can use it on IW one time. This wouldve been the first time i saw a movie twice or possibly 3 times.

I definitely want to see Avengers again.

Whatever, I'll just check into another movie, snap the picture, then go to the counter and swap it out for Avengers.

Essentially what I've done before for IMAX. Just a waste of 5 minutes though.

Yep I will see some weird movie I guess when I wanna see a second showing.
They didn't allow this then changed their terms to allow it and then going back again.

I'm wondering if it is this type of stuff that is the reason for the photo/screenshot and the limit on seeing a movie once.

It makes me wonder how much MoviePass creators really thought this through before launching.

I also wonder how they are "checking" the photos
Brian Earl Spilner

Just did this for a second Avengers viewing tonight. Bought a ticket for Traffik, grabbed the pic and the manager swapped it out for Avengers in IMAX no problem.

Screw these unannounced changes.

isn't that theft? meaning Disney would not be getting their share of the revenue?
yes, "money" is going to a movie, just not the movie you are consuming, so that distributor is losing out on their revenue.

not being judgmental; just asking a question.
Brian Earl Spilner

On my receipt, I see them crediting back -$14 and charging $21 for Avengers.

I might have only paid the difference but in their system the full price goes to Disney.
