I hear you, but the whole point was to have Liz invite Peter to HER party. I guess she could have invited him to Flash's party, but it wouldn't have had quite the same effect.
i dunno, what if flash posts on 4chan, and in the next installment, he threatens to dox peter? he can be the cyber bully.swimmerbabe11 said:
I agree with that. It kinda ruins his whole "bully" thing when not only is Peter clearly better at him than Ac-Dec, the kid with the bell also makes fun of Flash for it. Being a bully only works if the other kids take your side too.
I don't know if that's really true, most people don't actually like bullies but they get away with it because they're the bully. Giving in to peer pressure is one thing, but you never seen anyone sad that a bully got what they had coming.swimmerbabe11 said:

I've read that they wanted to make it look like a school in Brooklyn would really look, and I think it's totally believable in that case. It is different from the comics, but outside of Flash (who I thought was a bit miscast but I can kinda get where they were going) I thought it worked really well.M.C. Swag said:
Agreed. I thought the opening sequence with the home-made video was a lil clunky/cringey and lasted a bit too long. The high school dilemmas were fine but it felt like we were being bludgeoned over the head with inclusion ideals. Like, I could see the casting director checking off an ethnicity box with every character. That's not to say that's a bad thing, but it was certainly distracting.

According to the 2010 Census, 35.7% of the population was non-Hispanic White, 31.9% non-Hispanic Black or African American, 10.4% non-Hispanic Asian, 0.4% from some other race (non-Hispanic) and 1.6% of two or more races (non-Hispanic). 19.8% of Brooklyn's population was of Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish origin (they may be of any race).
I just think it was pretty spot on if they're trying to show what a school like that really looked like.M.C. Swag said:
lol alright, white flag. You win. I won't mention it again as it really doesn't matter one way or the other.
Still think the Flash casting sucked.

Maybe some of the "appeal" to this Flash is that he is a DJ? I don't get the whole DJ culture (because I'm an old), but kids eat that crap up.
Also, get off my lawn.
Have y'all been to Queens?M.C. Swag said:
That's fine, but when it looks like the characters are a teen version of the United Nations, it's a bit heavy handed. I'm not saying everyone should have been white, but they didn't need to cover the rainbow. Go 75% all black or Asian for all I care, it was just something that I couldn't help but feel distracted by. I admit it's a smaller point (and probably a 'me-thing') that didn't really matter in terms of the movie's quality...until Flash showed up. Again, don't care that he's not white...but in what world (fictional or otherwise) could anyone take that guy seriously enough to feel intimidated or bullied? As someone else said, a bullies power isn't necessarily in his strength but in his popularity with other students. It didn't seem like anyone sided with this Flash. In fact they just made fun of him. The portrayal of this Flash was like HE was the loser outcast and Peter was the one everyone liked.
Right! And regarding 100% fictional characters. It's not as if these are real historical figures.MBAR said:
Why do people get so upset when there are minorities cast in these roles? A great movie and this is what bothers you?

I've been to NYC several times. Specifically Queens, as well.TCTTS said:
It's really, really weird. And super transparent. I can't imagine letting the racial make-up of a superhero movie bother me to any degree. Who ******* cares if "MJ" is black, white, Hispanic or Asain? And there can't be "too many" different races in a school in freaking Queens, New York. Have some of you ever even been to New York?
Understood.M.C. Swag said:
No, I actually haven't. Again, I wasn't upset or bothered at all by the cast...it wasn't until Flash showed up that made me go 'hmmm really?' That was distracting. Again, not bothersome or offensive. It was distracting. The guy they hired to portray Peter's high school tormenter was a guy that couldn't be any further from intimidating. Feel free to comment on anything else I've said about the movie.
