Loving the episode today. I hope June slits Serena's throat while she's sleeping.
I watched it, and it is actually good if you like dystopian futuristic stuff.Sex Panther said:
I don't even know what this show is about but I hate it

If you want to hate it because a bunch of idiot libs with no creativity glommed onto it to push a political agenda, fine. But the book is better that ALL of the idiots using it now for political tinder.
I may or may not have searched for porn related to Handmaid's. Couldn't find any yet; I think the porn industry is missing a big chance here.TriAg2010 said:Dr. Mephisto said:

Pretty much this. Once Halloween gets here and we're treated to a bunch of sexy handmaid costumes, the whole thing will get co-opted from the radlibs and it will go away.

I think the problem with this novel is that it doesn't show any meaningful trends that could possibly lead to that future dystopian state. Because it's not believable, it doesn't serve as a very good critique on modern society. It may be well written, but it can hardly be compared with books like 1984 or even shows like Black Mirror. I'll have to watch the show. Maybe it's just for entertainment like the Hunger Games?
It did sort of foreshadow things starting to get bad, before the **** really started to go down. And she mentions a lot about how she didn't realize it at the time, but looking back she should have known, etc.

I'm watching now based on the Emmy and am essentially with Count. Admittedly I'm only one episode in, but there are a whole bunch of things I just don't get:
Why do the Handmaids/surrogates live with the family?
Wouldn't procreation be more effective if the Handmaids were kept in constant hospital care with their cycle monitored for peak fertility?
Why do the Martha's hate the Handmaids? Both are oppressed and they don't get raped.
What US religious model that could possibly take over holds out beliefs like this?
They are infertile usually and will never get to have sex, have children, etc.CapCityAg89 said:Count Counterpoint said:Ag$08 said:

Dumb comment. True Islam has nothing in common with this.

I'm into episode 8 of season 1. Read the book and love the series.
It would be awesome if people could just watch the show for its entertainment value.
