Houston's "theater under the stars" is doing Little Shop of Horrors right now at the Hobby Center. Thought they did a great job with it. I always loved the movie with Rick Moranis, and was surprised at the end to find that the movie has a completely different ending than the musical.

Saw Beetlejuice.

Funny funny funny!

However, over the top with cursing and homosexual themes. If this is a problem for you, don't bother. You won't like it.

Songs were really good. Both of our leads were fantastic. The part of Lydia, Madison Mosley, could easily play Elphaba. She has some fantastic pipes. It is crazy that this part is her first tour. If I hear that she is playing Elphaba or Eurydice (Hadestown), I'll be at the show. She should have a great future.

We saw Girl From North Country last night

Don't bother. It was not good. Very boring. Singers were good but the storyline was a mess.

I'm trying to find our complete review, but FB is being picky. Here are parts:

Quote:

"The cheery part is when the bankrupt business man who is try to bed the middle aged black lady kills his adult autistic son. Yeah, reread that sentence."

Quote:

"My wife dorkishly found this "saddest musical rating system". Les Mis whose very title reflects, you know, misery, is a 42. Miss Saigon is a 40. Sweeney Todd is a cheery 30.

She scored this sucker at a 50. The author went out of his way to make this a dark as possible. But not in a good way."

Quote:

"How about we have the main character recall a story from his childhood. It will not have anything to explain his motives or present state. It will not advance the main plot in any way. The story you ask? His little sister dying in a dramatic fashion on his watch!"

Huge musical nerd here. We have season tix to The Fox in Atlanta as well as the Classic Center at UGA. I've seen about 100 shows in the last 10 years.

The best show I've seen lately would be Six. Just a lot of fun with great music.

Can't wait to catch up in the thread.

Say Six on Broadway a couple of years ago. Great show.

We are seeing Guttenberg! this coming Friday in a super small theater here in Denver. I know little to nothing about it, but hoping it's not too raunchy since my 10yo will be with us. But we made it through Jagged Little Pill so it can't be much worse right?

Just got back from NYC. Saw Hadestown, Wicked and Once Upon a Mattress, in that order. Wish I had seen them in the opposite order. Mattress was entertaining... Sutton Foster was fantastic and Ana Gasteyer was really good too. It's pretty silly though and probably would have been more memorable had I not just seen 2 all time great musicals.

5th time seeing Wicked. Never gets old. We got the Elpheba stand in, but she used to be the touring Elpheba. Didn't feel cheated at all.

First time seeing Hadestown, and I'm glad I went in not knowing the music or the story. It was phenomenal. It's now in my top 3 with Wicked and Hamilton.

Fun story...after the show, my 15 year old daughter wanted to wait by the stage doors to get Jordan Fisher's autograph. We saw Hermes and a couple of others walk out, but we realized we didn't have a pen. So I ran across the street to CVS and bought a Sharpie. Got back just in time to see him walking out. My daughter chased him down the street and was able to get it. Definitely the highlight of her trip.

The Six "live on opening night" cast recording is phenomenal. That show is a blast and the music is great. The touring casts are excellent too.

I saw Suffs last week which I give a solid B. It felt like a really good AP American History project. The music was fine, the acting was excellent and the performers were solid. It was very cool to see the actress who played the pilot in Come from Away in another role - love her voice. The show did a good job telling stories that many don't know, and while it was moving at times it never really took off for me. I could see the clear influence of Hamilton and Ragtime on the book and some of the songs, both of which are much better executed shows.

I'll be there this weekend. Seeing a few shows. May try to fill a Friday matinee.

Is there an App that lets you find last minute tickets? I recall using something like 6 years ago.

Next up for us is The Cher Show.

We have & Juliet January 18, however, we will be out of town and I am selling the tix.

If anyone is coming to New Orleans January 18, I'll sell them to you at cost. Great seats...dead center on row L. Fantastic theater, Saenger Theater. It is beautiful.

Let me know if you are interested. I can also provide recommendations on food. I believe, in my humble but accurate opinion, that NOLA is the best food city on the planet.

I thought it was good to pretty good. I know it's one of the hot shows. Seems like it was mostly the original cast, certainly the guy who is the lead on the soundtrack. I thought he was the weakest just didn't love his voice. The supporting best friend and older brother were great.

Suffs was like Hamilton by white gals for the women's vote. But I was entertained. The lead was the original red riding hood from Into the Woods.

Dear Irving was a top notch cocktail bar. Tell them what you like and let them entertain.

Quality Bistro was the best restaurant experience in the trip. Butter service!

Also had a great meal at a tiny local place in Hells Kitchen The Marshall. Excellent, but tight quarters.

I finally got to see Wicked (movie) last night. Very well done. I was surprised at how well Ariana was.

Dancing Through Life was incredible.

PETER PAN!

We saw the latest revival of Peter Pan tonight with kids. On the one hand...the DEI checklist was LOL worthy. We'll solve the "Indian problem" by making them all nondescript Polynesian type people. And insert a card into the Playbill thanking the Cree people (no mention of the Comanche that pillaged and raped these lands, but hey). And girl power. So much girl power. So much that my 13 year old daughter said "yeah, that was a lot of girl power".

But push through that and watch it with eyes of a child, it was a blast. Pan was well played. Hook was delightful. Wendy may be black and her brothers white and Korean...and mom Indian (from India), but who really cares. They singed and danced and flew. It was fun.

Can you both roll your eyes and have a grand time on the same evening? Yes, yes you can!

Just got back from NYC.

Whole family saw
Outsiders - kids had read the book in school and seen the movie. Everybody loved it but missed the lightheartedness most shows bring that we see together.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - fun experience for everyone. Compared to the first time some of the family saw it a couple years ago the feel has changed.

Back to the Future - probably the kids favorite. Our Dr Brown was from the original London case and was SO good.

Wife and daughter also did the Nutcracker but the boys and I hit up the Natural History Museum instead.

I've wanted to see the cursed child for awhile now but I can never make the scheduling work for me. I'm usually only in town for a few days so it's really hard to fit in the two shows on the same day or two different evenings.

It's only one show now. Think it's been that way a while now. Ours started at 7 and done about 10:30 with an intermission.
