Reactions/reviews obviously just hit and, no surprise, it sounds like this one's a dud. It's honestly kind of hilarious how many of these reactions/headlines express almost the exact same sentiment. I've seen every single X-Men movie in theaters, going back to 2000, and I was thinking about maybe seeing this one this weekend, but probably not now. I'm so glad this franchise, in Fox's hands, is finally over and done with...

If it's no good then that's a shame. I've really enjoyed most XMen movies. A lot of people unfairly trash the series because they hold it up to the MCU for comparison.

X-Men was always my favorite comic growing up. Some of my favorite comic movies as well X-Men, X2, First Class, Days of Future Past, and Logan which might be my favorite comic movie of all time.

The Last Stand...bad, Apocalypse...awful, this one looked bad to me, and the reviews confirm it.

I'm hopeful that Disney hits the reset button in a huge way with X-Men, there's so much awesome material out there for them to do great movies. There are so many great characters and storylines out there to explore.

The trailers for this and Apocalypse just looked like they were mailing it in with these last two, just seemed like the studio didn't care. Days of Future Past was so good and different, how did it go from that and First Class to these last two films? Thanks Fox, at least it's out of your hands now.

Jennifer Lawrence has been mailing it in since after First Class. She clearly didn't like being in these films, didn't want to be there and didn't want to do any press for them, yet the studio obviously thinks that her name is still a draw for the franchise (it isn't) so they keep shoving her character front and center.

I love her and think she's a great actress, but her presence in these films has dragged all of them down. I haven't enjoyed an X-Men movie since First Class.

New Mutants has been stuck in post-production for how long at this point? But I do have some hope for it. The movie comes completely out of left field in terms of what a comic movie is supposed to be, super dark, close to horror. If you're going to fail, at least try something new, swing for the fences and see what happens, be original rather than I don't know...trying to do another version of The Last Stand.

The last film I really remember getting stuck in post-production for this long that I was waiting for was Cabin in the Woods. They just didn't seem to know what it was or what to do with it, and it was AWESOME. That movie was done for years before it ended up in theaters.

IMDB says current release date is April 3, 2020...tick tock.

If New Mutants was even remotely passable as entertainment, it'd been released by now. The studio(s) are kicking that turd down the road further and further, hoping they can eventually slip it into theaters (or Hulu) when everyone has forgotten about it.

Can Disney override Fox and just cancel New Mutants? Is it possible that New Mutants could be used to introduce these characters into the MCU, or is it too late at this point?

A sad finish, but it is what it is. Based on comments from Kevin Feige, I think they'll let the X-Men rest for 6-7 years before rebooting in the MCU. People will be ready for them by then, I think - or over comic book films entirely.

I don't have an answer to that, but I'd think that after Dark Phoenix the franchise may need a much deserved breath and that New Mutants might not actually see the light of day or if it does it's released quietly on Hulu. I'd be perfectly fine with the former.

Apocalypse was underwhelming for me and indications are that Dark Phoenix will be the same. At this point, outside of Deadpool, the X-Men should have taken a breather after Logan regardless of the Disney acquisition.

I was listening to a Kevin Smith comic book guy show and the side kick guy made a great observation.

Thanos's snaps introduced a huge amount of gamma radiation. What does radiation cause? Mutants.

So the the x-men will become a thing from the snap(s).

Was just reading the wiki today for the X-men series and realized that last month Disney officially canceled all of the rest of the X-men films in some stage of preproduction. That includes both deadpool3 and the Gambit film that Channing Tatum was still trying to get made.

Just FYI, Deadpool isn't cancelled. Feige has said specifically that that franchise, at least, will keep going in some form or fashion.

I was referring to the specific X-Men line of film, excluding spin-offs. Agree with Logan kicking ass. The Wolverine was good as well.

Days of Future Past sucked.

marvel studios should open up a subsidiary film company called "maximum effort films" to release deadpool and any other R-rated films

Man sucks to hear about Dark Phoenix. What stings the most for me is the loss of Fassbender and McAvoy - they were just brilliant in their roles and had the perfect chemistry for Magneto and Professor X (shocking given they had to follow McKellen and Stewart).

What a daunting task it will be to recast them AND Wolverine.

Great ranking that I'm pretty sure I agree with 100% (though I could probably switch around 5, 6, and 7 in some order)...

I was thinking that, but I wouldn't put it above the original X-Men, DOFP, X2, or Logan. It might fall between the two Deadpool movies for me? Maybe in front of both? I can't quite tell...

I honestly haven't seen X1-X3 in years, but I know I'd put First Class above all of them.

X2, I remember loving the opening scene, and X1 I loved because it was one of the first big superhero movies when I was a kid. (Outside of the Batman franchise which had crashed and burned by then.)

But I think First Class is just more interesting. I am a sucker for period 60's movies.

This all just reminded me of a story that I haven't thought about in years. I think I might have told it on this board before, but I can't remember. Either way, I figure it's appropriate on the eve of the final movie's release...

About a year before the first X-Men movie came out is when I really started getting into screenwriting for the first time. And because the first X-Men was such a big deal back then, there were a ton of rumors all over the internet, and for some insane reason I started organizing them all into what I thought the order of the movie was going to be, parsing through what seemed real and jived and what didn't. I think we had one trailer to go off of eventually, and before long I basically had the entire movie laid out from various sources, and decided to put it all into a loose/rough screenplay format. I then threw that "script" up on my first-ever website, which was devoted solely to the movie/script, complete with corresponding images inserted from the first trailer. I then linked to it on a bunch of message boards and people went nuts. It was mostly positive, but some negative as well - people were definitely pissed that I was "spoiling" the movie, even though the site had clear spoiler warnings. A bunch of sites ended up running with it, and I was getting all kinds of random attention, again, some of fairly negative. This was 1999, and probably the first time a movie this big had ever been spoiled in such a manner.

Anyway, one afternoon, to my utter shock... I randomly get an email from Bryan Singer himself. I just dug up the printed version I kept, and this is all it said...

I didn't know if I was getting played or not, so I reached out to this webmaster guy I got to know through this process - this guy named Lincoln, who ran a couple of the big Star Wars and X-Men movie fan sites - and he confirmed that he had reached out to Singer himself and asked Singer to send me an encouraging email, since I was getting so much sh*t from certain people online. Which was weird, because I truly could not care less what any of those people were saying. But it was still super-cool of Singer nonetheless, since he had every right to be pissed, but instead he corrected the script, which I thought was hilarious. (I also remember thinking the "x" in the "thanx" was the coolest thing ever.)

Anyway, I kept in touch with Singer a bit after that - I'd ask him random questions now and again about how to make it in the industry, and he'd always graciously respond - but now it all kind of has this creepy vibe of course, given everything he's been through and all of the allegations since. For the record, he never hit on me or anything even remotely like that - he couldn't have been cooler - but preying on young, high school/college-aged boys was obviously something he's never had a problem with.

What a weird, crazy time in general. The internet was like the wild west back then, and this movie basically ushered in the modern era comic book movie craze.

Hahahaha, holy sh*t, the "script" is somehow STILL on the internet. I just did a search and some random text file thing of it is still being hosted. Man, this brings back some memories. My online name back then was "Agent Smith," (my last name, right after The Matrix had come out), hence the name at the top. Good gosh this is hilarious. Literally the first "script" I ever "wrote"...
