I do enjoy the Tyrion/Varys conversations.
The great thing is...those characters have been developed so well we knew Tyrion was going to respond with that last line. I literally said it out loud before he did.
And I think part of the critique as of late is that the people and plots have been all layed out and its all inevitable at this point as it wraps to the end with the exception of a few possible gotchas here and there.
I want to see the Night King get ahold of all three dragons, reanimate them, and conquer Westeros. They said the "long night" is coming so...

It's inevitably going to end. But I have no friggin idea what that end is going to look like.

Thing with prophesy is it's impossible to know what it means. Winter has come, so it's possible that snow falling on KL is a regular occurrence in winter. The throne room could still be damaged by Dany's army during winter. Or the snow could be symbolic of Jon ending up as king. Similar to Melisandre saying "I pray for a glimpse of Azor Ahai, but all I see is snow."

Just noticed on the rewatch that Gendry's badass hammer has a stag engraved into it.
Is it just me or would a hammer that big be wayyyy to heavy to actually wield unless you were the hound or the mountain and not scrawny gendry?

He rowed in a boat for 4 seasons. I'm sure his forearms and biceps can swing it.
Dudes buff, but the end of that hammer is probably 8-15 lbs based on size and the same weight sledge hammer.
Swinging a 10 lb sledge around sideways... ya right. The graphic image of Roberts hammer is more accurate to what they looked like, <5lbs, for sure; unless someone like the guy who plays the mountain or that huge freak in 300 or Brock Lesner has it.

I thought Gendry looked pretty jacked.
Something darker would be in line with the story. But the story is, in part, George RR Martin's attempt to do the Lord of the Rings. And that story ends, in part, with a marriage ceremony.Carl Underguard said:

So even though I was teasing my wife about the final hook up episode, I do think that there will be at least one or two marriages towards the end of the story.
Could be Jon and Dany. Or the Hound and Sansa (or Sansa+Littlefinger). Or Arya and Gendry. Or Tormond and Brienne. Or Sam and Gilley, Or Grey Worm and Missandei. Or Cersei and Jaime. Or Bran and Meera. Or Ghost and Nymeria. Or a dozen other potential pairings.
Jon and Dany makes sense, except for the fact that they are related. They are both young. He needs her militarily. And she needs him to add legitimacy, local Westerosi support, and to headline the "I'm not a foreign invader" PR campaign. That's the main reason her sell sword lover didn't come to Westeros with her. So she would be available for marriage.
But lots of other combos make sense too. Each of these royal or major houses needs to get to breeding so they don't die out. So Gendry, Tyrion, Bran (or Sansa or Jon), Dany (or Jon), Sam, and lots of minor house leaders need to get busy.
With so many families/houses extinct or almost so, there is a distinct lack of experience and senior leadership. A few more episodes and there's not going to be many left to pick up the pieces and rule anything. I guess this is Little Finger's perfect scenario.
So Cersei talked about hiring sell swords. Any chance Daario is worked back into the fold since he originally led a company of them. He could accept Cersei's offer and then betray her once they are in Westeros. Or maybe he is really pissed at Dany for leaving him, now she wants Jon, and he does assist Cersei
Gendry is a little shorter, but I imagine any hammer he wields would/should be like Ajax in the movie Troy.

Ha. After I typed that I remembered the hardhome episode, where the wights fell off a cliff in mass, and then hopped up and started fighting. So maybe the hammer won't be so good after all...

Lots of moving the story forward in this episode but the main thing that bothered me (outside of Jaime swimming out of a body of water still wearing his armor) is Cersei going full on expositional when talking about springing a trap for Dany when discussing a truce. Why would this show just throw something in like that? It isn't in Cersei's character to just say that out loud. It just seemed like way too much of a Bond villain kind of thing to do.
Jaime: We can't win this war, she's got three dragons.
Cersei: Maybe I'll set a trap.
How could either of them agree to meet the other anywhere? Neither would trust the other under any circumstance and neither would have anyone council them to meet the other.
And then P.S. I'm pregnant, gimme a break.

Cersei is due for big-time L. Tell the audience your plans for a trap, set the pieces in motion and then the show gives us bbq'd queen for the main course.

1) the joust, tournament for Ned. LF bet on the Mountain over Loras, renly bet on his bf. LF explains secret of mountain and hound, as well as the Loras' mare. Sansa said there was no honor in it, "but there is a great deal of gold."
2) Harrenhall. LF meets with Tywin. They discuss the Tyrells marrying Joffrey. Tywin says they should pay, LF says they should, but not until stannis and robb are defeated. He mentions Catelyns deal with tyrion for jaime.
I think last night's episode, if anything, neutralizes LF from Arya because her ate with Lions and served them too, and Sansa married one and told Robb to submit to Joffrey. It becomes varying layers of hypocrisy when everyone had to serve the crown in some capacity.
