Agreed, and like you said, Sam knows that too.. hence why he's taking things into his own hands. He can't afford to wait to become a maester because it will be too late.

Well something has to change. That wall is coming down. The AM's convo with Sam was pretty foreboding. Bran just makes story sense.

I mean come on. Foreshadowing for sure

I'm assuming he eventually gets caught going into the white walker/porn section of the library and has to make a choice between becoming a maester and saving the world.

Yea and they have no idea how they were able to stop it. They essentially threw the kitchen sink at Shireen.

I agree. He knew he didn't have much time, so after his conversation with the AM didn't produce any results he stole the keys and "borrowed" the books to take home. The unknown for me is was that his whole purpose in going to the Citadel - just to steal the books and find out that Dragonstone has a crap ton of dragon glass underneath it, or will his storyline there continue and will he help cure Jorah or find some more helpful info on how to kill WW's.

A side note - what a great arch for Gilley - going from being raped beyond the wall by some crazy old geezer, to basically a nice comfortable home with her son and sugar daddy - good for her...

You think the book Gilly was looking at is really just White Walker porn?

This is a screen grab from reddit, and it's kind of hard to read and get all the info, but this book Sam has mentions dragonglass and a cure for something, because of the work some guy was doing on illnesses and disease.

Could be a red herring or it could all tie in together.

The timing might be way off, but Stannis formerly occupied Dragonstone and at some point his daughter was cured. Maybe coincidence, maybe not.

The throne appeared to be surrounded by it; and Sam discovered that deep into n the mountain of dragons the there was s a horde of it. Ilshow impliednhe would write to a Jon about it. So Jon to Dragonstone?
Since Jon is a Targaryan I'd expect him to team up with Dany at some point.
"Team" or "team" up?

My predictions / theories:
-Jon and Dany are banging by end of this season
-Ownership of the dragons becomes the key to victory (I.e. Like in the History of Westeros, dragons and riders may switch sides)
-All Starks converge on Winterfell
-none of Cersei, Dany, Jon, Tyrion, or Jamie die this season

Man, if Sam stays in Old Town all for the purpose of curing Jorah, that will be a completely wasted storyline to me. I honestly don't care about Jorah with everything else going on.

Also, is the secret to Valyrian steel necessary if Dragonstone is sitting on a ton of dragon glass? I suppose it would depend on how much dragon glass, but I figure that's easier to craft weapons from than Valyrian steel.

Maybe he can cure Jorah and then accompany him to meet Danaerys to explain the need for dragon glass

It's entirely dependent on how available Dragonglass willl become now that Dany has settled in. She's not gonna just hand out the stuff to anyone who asks. The odds of Valryia being relevant in the show again is slim, but i just thought it was worth mentioning as it relates to Jorah's current afflection and what a cure could mean.

just to throw some fuel on the fire of the Wun Wun debate...

Ian Whyte was credited at the end of the episode - he played Wun Wun in season 5 and 6.

Although he has played other giants (Dongo) and the Mountain and a WW.

Probably a dumb question, but.....why are people speculating that Euron's 'gift' is Tyrion when Tyrion is on a boat/in a castle with Dany?

Do we have any idea how much time has passed?

- The progression of Jorah's grayscale
- Sam's training montage
- The House Greyjoy makes 1000 ships and sails to Westeros

The last would have taken months, one would think.

Jon already knows the importance of dragonglass. If you needed more dragonglass, where would you look? OH YEAH were the dragons lived! Brilliant!

Jon didn't need Sam to find this he just needed to get rid of him. Winter is coming (now here) Sam eats a **** ton; can't fight; and Jon always has to protect him; so he shipped Sam's sorry ass off to bordering school.

The show isn't linear so it's impossible to tell. The time between scenes in King's Landing is different than scenes at the Wall and etc. it's been a common topic discussion that usually comes up when a character appears in multiple locations that are far away (ie Littlefinger or Varys).

House Umber's family sword

I love the attention to detail in this show.

Jon "Greatjon" Umber, Season 1

Jon "Small Jon" Umber, Season 6

Yeah that was kind of my point. Lots of jokes this episode, but it last season seemed like all business, so I was expecting all business from the get go. I'm sure there were jokes last season, I just don't remember them.

They literally had a scene last season about jokes. Bran and Tyrion almost always have jokes and the Hound always has dry sarcasm. This season they had a scene that was so serious no one even talks.

Are we watching the same show?

Little Fingers acknowledges his only weapon is knowledge. I feel like he has connected the dots on Jon and is waiting for the right moment to capitalize on his information.

The houses support Jon because he has Ned's blood running through his veins and that was good enough for them to declare him a stark. They make a point of mentioning it.

Will they still feel the same way about the "king in the norf" if his blood is Targ. (albeit also stark from Lyanna).

Unlikely but I can't think of what else he has plans for? Aside from trying to play Sansa and Jon against one another.

Yes, I think it's pretty clear that dragon glass will be a component of the cure for grey scale. It has to be the reason sheeren lived.

This part bothered me some - Theon and Yara stole all the best ships and gave them to Dany. According to Euron, the Iron Islands are a bunch of rocks full of bird **** and ugly people. Where would they get the resources to build "the greatest fleet Westeros has ever known" and the people to crew them?

I don't know why but for some reason in a show full of unbelievable things that broke my suspension of disbelief.

When I saw this watching the show last night, I thought it was the catspaw blade that was used to attack Bran in season 1, that was Valeryian steel if I recall:

Any chance true Valeryian steel is infused with dragonglass?

He wants to break Sanaa's trust and support for Jon and delegitimize Jon in the eyes of the lords in the North. Have Sansa declared the true ruler of the North and, with her position owed to Little Finger, agree to wage war in the South leading him to take the Iron Throne.

also i was looking Sams hands and arms were covered - I would think that would be a logical precaution when dealing with the quarantined.

In addition t that I rewatched and he only grabs the bowl as Sam is also grabbing it. Still want to be covered because of transfer possibility of course.

looks like gloves and sleeves covering all skin here...
