Crazy this thread was created on the day that Taran and Jay's contracts weren't renewed. I'm going to miss both of them.

I think some of you misunderstand the relationship between writers and cast members.

I know this has been covered, but if you don't like Hader bc he breaks when playing Stefan, then you don't understand what was going on. That was the joke! That was part of it.
Jimmy Fallon is the guy that gives you a present for Christmas, and just knows that you are gonna love it.

I nominate Kevin Neelan purely due to being the worst Weekend Update host ever. Dude could not get a complete sentence out without stumbling over a word. Always so painful to watch. I never could understand why they let him do it.
I honestly think you're confusing Nealon with Colin Quinn. Nealon was a pro, his Subliminal Man character only worked because his timing was great and he never stumbled over his words.
I quit watching a decade ago I keep turning it on every once in awhile because of some false hope I'm holding on to. And when I don't laugh after 20 mins I turn it off again.
Jimmy wasn't crap on SNL, or even any different on his show. He just isn't doing sketch comedy anymore, so its not a big deal if he laughs. He was in a lot of VERY funny sketches, many of which he himself was funny in. We just remember all of his fits of laughter along with Horatio's.

There are only 3 signatures of Fallon I can recall with any clarity.
1) weekend update: heavily writer dependent
2) blue oyster cult: ferrel/walken heavy, fallon's role was muted by his inability to not laugh at the jokes
3) cork soakers vineyard: again with him and horatio unable to keep their composure, but not an overly funny skit (tried to be too much like "colonel angus" imo.)

I think most posters here are too young to remember Elliot was on the show for a horrificly bad season.

I'll cast another vote for Collin Quinn. Just terrible and his delivery stripped any humor out of his jokes.
On another note, most underrated recurring characters includes Astronaut Jones. Well executed randomness with a bit of crass. Always enjoyed it.
