As far as spoilers go, once a movie is out of theaters, then spoilers should be fine unless the OP specifically says he has not seen the movie. If you haven't seen a movie that has been out for 2 years then you should stay off the thread.

Not to mention that the original THE THING came out in 1951.
Like I said, I love monster movies. That version, as great as it is, has next to nothing to do with the 1982 version.

I wish they would really remake Interstellar. It was 80% of the way to being one of the greatest movies of all time. Dat remaining 20% do...

dude come on. delete that ****. let the guy watch the movie without purposely spoiling some of it.

To be fair, are you really spoiler safe on a thread about a movie that came out almost 2 years ago?
no. and obviously people are talking about scenes. but, to purposely post one is still kind of ****ty.

and trust me, i'm pretty ok with people discussing spoilers. the guy who started this has not seen the movie. maybe he's read about it. maybe he hasn't but come on.
Your lack of reading comprehension is troubling.

The only spoilers I hate, are about movies that the thread title isn't about. Especially when the movie has only been out for a year or so, you shouldn't expect an entirely different one to be spoiled

Really liked a lot of this movie, but one of the last scenes where he finally meets his daughter again AND ONLY SPENDS LIKE 20 MINUTES WITH HER is the one that sticks in my craw. They would've stayed up all night talking and catching up & talking about where they'd been and what they'd seen. After all that time and he HI/BYE'S her? Total BS.

I agree with the last scene with his daughter being troubling. The movie is magnificent but for the last 10 minutes. The scene with his daughter made me question whether he was a ghost. The family in the room doesn't speak to him. He doesn't interact with any of them, even the children. The first half of the movie has multiple conversations about ghosts. I can't put it together, but maybe he died when he ejected. And that's when he gained the ability to move in multiple dimensions. I don't know...just thinking out loud. And love is what allows the daughter to have the brief encounter. I can't explain his other interactions after being rescued but the fact he returns to a perfect version of his farmhouse is odd as well. I love movies that force one to wonder and this one was one of the best. Very good. And I just rewatched it tonight after seeing this thread.

Uh, not trying to sound like a jerk, honest, but I think maybe you two are simply overthinking the ending. Like I said in a post above, IMO, the ending is simply a matter of Nolan not wanting to bring the emotion of the ending to a screeching halt by putting in long scenes of him chit-chatting with Murphy. We don't need to see that....we need to see that he held up his promise to return to her, and now he's going to go hold up his other promise of finding Anne Hathaway and an actual habitable planet for humankind.

I think this is probably correct. As for him being a ghost, that's an interesting perspective that I'd never considered. It is difficult to align the scenes in the hospital room when he first awoke and his conversation with the kid who studied him in high school to him being a ghost.

Regarding the lack of interaction with Murph or her family, I just took that as the family not really knowing him but being respectful because they knew who he was. To me, the time he spent with Murph was adequate because all it really was was fulfilling his promise.

Love this movie and that docking scene in IMAX the first time had me gripping my seat. Awesome.

Also, the "ghost" scenario would totally go against the story...remember this movie idea was created by renowned physicist Kip Thorne, who also help guide it during filming. While some of the concepts in the movie are exaggerated for dramatic effect by Nolan (or just wrong for the particular scenario they're used in), there's nothing "otherwordly" in the movie. He tried to ground the movie in as much fact, or fact-based theory, as he could. The tesseract he ends up in in the end is as "far out" there as Thorne goes...that was his idea for how time might be viewed as its own dimension by beings with a greater knowledge of it than current humans have.

Plus, he never mentioned anything about the ending being the afterlife in the book.

It's weird...the first time I saw this movie, I liked it. The second time I saw this movie...I thought it might be one of my favorite SciFi movies ever.

I loved that movie. Hans Zimmer killed the score like he always does.

But that movie confirmed one thing for me...I'm way too stupid to ever be an astronaut.

I realize I'm 8 years behind as I just watched it tonight for the first time, but I concur I'm way too stupid to ever be an astronaut, and pretty close to being to stupid to understand what the hell I just watched.. the music was awesome. I'll have to watch it a few times to maybe get it, and of course, getting to see Anne Hathaway is always a plus.

Really awesome movie. Nolan's plots can be difficult to follow the first time through, but it's fun to rewatch because even though the plot points can be unrealistic, they're all usually "set up" really well.

This is one that I think gets better over time.

I put it up there with Inception, Prestige, Dark Knight as Nolan's best.

The other thing I find Nolan to be exceptional at, is regardless of how complicated or convoluted the plot of his movie may be...he still makes you connect to the characters emotionally. YOu buy in

Hit me hard before a daughter, now that I have two it might murder me.

I think this may be my favorite Nolan film as time goes on. Not to mention Zimmers best work which is saying something in my eyes as a big Zimmer fan.

I got to watch this movie for the first time about 15 months ago when I was off on paternity leave with my first daughter. It's one of those movies where my wife got super pissed at me for correctly guessing the ending. I took several advanced physics classes while at A&M so understood a little bit of the concepts.

Even with that, the movie let me and my wife discuss and look up the concepts. We were both fascinated and in awe of the movie.

We actually didn't understand what the fuss was about in the first 45 minutes of the movie but became one of our favorite movies of all time.

The above poster is 1000% correct in that it hits men more than women…. My goodness.

The first movie I ever watch with a person that tries to guess the ending will be the last movie I ever watch with that person.

So I've found that as a dad, there are certain movies that I used to love and can no longer watch. Even scenes. You just pointed out one of them for me. Might be an interesting thread. Which movies do you struggle to watch now as a parent?
