Gravity was a great movie for what it was.

- Here's our protagonist.
- She has a very straightforward problem she needs to solve.
- Solving this problem requires significant personal growth and overcoming lots of adversity.
- You know just enough about her to like her and root for her to succeed.
- Can she do it? Only takes an hour and a half to find out.
- Good acting, good script, visually very beautiful.

Very high quality popcorn movie. I liked it a lot.

Ditto, I liked everything about the movie, including the parts that others are saying they didn't like.

Yeah, count me in as someone who enjoyed every part of the film, including the ending.

On a sidenote, apparently Spielberg was attached to direct for a brief period at first. Dont get me wrong, I like Spielberg, but man am I glad this fell into hands of Nolan. I don't think Spielberg would have been able to do the story justice like Nolan did.

Gravity is like an incredible roller-coaster ride.

Interstellar is an incredible mind-****.

Both were amazing in IMAX. Gravity in IMAX 3d might have been the only movie I've ever enjoyed in 3D.

I have this movie but have yet to watch it.

How does it compare to Gravity?
Completely different movie from Gravity. Both enjoyable.

This. Two totally different movies, and you should watch both of them.

I really liked both but Interstellar is probably in my top 20 favorite movies all time and gravity isnt (Apollo 13 is).

I compare CN's movies against each other because it would be unfair to have them dominate my favorites list. Except for Inception it remains my favorite movie of all time.

I have Interstellar below Inception and the Dark Knight and just above the Prestige. Memento is great but not at the other's level, same with Insomnia.

I like how Sandra bullock just coasted to the other space station. It was only a mile or so away.

I don't really care about the scientific inaccuracies. If I did, I wouldn't enjoy anything, but to be fair, Intersteller has some things wrong as well. I do think Gravity isn't nearly as good on tv but I enjoyed the theater experience of Gravity more than Intersteller.

if you haven't seen it yet, don't bother.

the ending is so dumb, starting with the ************************, ugh, ruined the entire movie.

I listen to the Interstellar soundtrack all the time while I travel. If you only listed to one, make it "Cornfield Chase"

Absolutely loved the movie. Having a three year old daughter makes it really hit home too.

The science is great, with a couple of exceptions.

Kip Thorne's book about it was one of my favorite reads.

Kip Thorne helped design the LIGO thing that just detected Gravity Waves. Gravity waves are a big part of the science in Interstellar.

It's such a phenomenal soundtrack. From what I've read, it sounds like Zimmer completely isolated himself in order to complete this. He's an expert at his craft.

To be fair, are you really spoiler safe on a thread about a movie that came out almost 2 years ago?

no. and obviously people are talking about scenes. but, to purposely post one is still kind of ****ty.

and trust me, i'm pretty ok with people discussing spoilers. the guy who started this has not seen the movie. maybe he's read about it. maybe he hasn't but come on.

I thought Gravity was great. Was on the edge of my seat essentially the whole movie.

Interstellar was a very good movie, but the final sequence with Murphy ruined it for me. He can't sit with his beloved daughter and meet her family and learn about her life after he left? It just didn't ring true to me - regardless if she suggested that he go look for his colleague/love interest.

I hear you, maybe they could have inferred him spending more time with her, but I think that would have killed the emotional buildup/drama of the movie at that point. He had his happy ending...he saved mankind and his daughter...he got to keep his promise and return to Murphy...now, as an explorer at heart, he was doing what was in his nature to do - go explore and find his former colleague and finish his mission if finding another planet for humans to live on. Thats the ultimate plot of the movie - humankind finding another planet to live on. Putting in a scene of him spending more time with Murphy would have been a screeching halt to the ending, and him not even leaving at all would have diminished the movie IMO.

It might be the low budget, but it didn't draw me in as much as the others had. Especially since I saw it after everything except for Interstellar, so I guessed the ending because I knew his MO based on his other movies.

I understand why they did it - its just a continuation of the choice he made in the beginning to leave. But it still doesn't ring true to me.

Just my 2 cents.

How many people from earth do you think were saved by living on the pin wheel in space parked out by Saturn? A few hundred thousand? Am I missing something?

Gotcha... I can see that.

Not to sound too hipsterish but I saw it when it first came out and was blown away by it. Definitely was excited when I heard the Memento director was taking on Batman.

I had a chance to visit the LIGO facility in Washington last week. There's not much to see, but hearing the scientists that work there talk about it was cool.

The tunnel seen on the left side of the picture runs 4km. Another tunnel runs perpendicular the same distance.

This is inside the control room. No black holes were detected during the visit, but the scientists mentioned they have already recorded a second "event" that they are still analyzing before publishing.

The whole trip to that tidal planet seemed like a waste to me. All of humanity could have died in the time they were peddling around on that. The producers just needed an excuse to show the results of super high gravity. But the scientists wouldn't have bothered.

You are correct. They even had the line of dialogue "we need to think of time as a resource" and they did it anyway.

That planet should have been kept as a last resort. The time it would take to build a house would have been the entire length of human civilization on Earth.

And yeah, I did the math. One hour = 7 years, 1000 hours to build a house (six weeks). 1000 Hours * 7year/hour = 7000 years.

Heck, even spending 40 hours on a rudimentary habitat would be 280 years.

A few years ago I actually got called out on here for this. I love monster movies like Alien and The Thing, so when Universal released the prequel The Thing, I was of course going to see that movie. Now disregard what people think about that prequel, the movie told the story of what happened at the Norwegian camp that was a huge part of the 1982 movie made by John Carpenter. When I said something to the effect of how uplifting can a movie really be when we know, going in, that EVERYONE IS GOING TO DIE, someone said did I really just tell them what was going to happen in this prequel movie.

I get not having seen a movie, but I believe the prequel came out in about 2011 or 2012. The John Carpenter movie was 1982. What is the statute of limitations on spoilers?

What was the plan for the people on the huge space stations? Were they hoping/waiting for a Cooper return or I'm guessing they were sending scouts out to look for suitable planets? It seems like they couldn't survive every long on that thing. Just curious what your thoughts are.
