Please not Cumberbatch!

I think he has more of a villain face anyways, maybe he could play Jaws 2.0

Cavill is a Brit, so his natural accent would work great. However, James Bond is a world apart from Napoleon Solo (Cavill's role in The Man from UNCLE). Bond is much more brutal. Solo is almost a caricature of a secret agent, so much tongue-in-cheek dialog and subtle humor. I wonder if Cavill has the acting chops for this role.

The next Bond will be Asian to boost sales in China.

Jk. But it's scary how logical it sounds.

How about non-British but Euro Jamie Lannister?

Just realized I had Idris Elba confused for Djimon Honsou. Either would be good though IMO.

Craig's Bond was brutal because the producers were trying to capitalize on the Bourne movies' success, but Cavill in UNCLE was right in line with the old Bond films.

Right - meant to say American not english accent (corrected now). But I think he has the chops to be both charming and gritty. He can do a bad dude - I mean did you see his wanton disregard for collateral damage in Man of Steel?

He seems to have the suave but he's almost 46 (I was surprised to see he was that old). Same problem when you're thinking about a franchise character. He'd be 52-54 while filming his third movie

LOL Israeli. You could be right. Cavill was reportedly the producer's 2nd choice to play Bond when Craig was cast. Cavill was thought to be too young at the time. Maybe he's grown into the role.

Deputy, I can see some of the similarities between Solo and the Connery or Moore versions of James Bond. I wonder how that softer version of Bond would play with viewers these days.

Not sure. Maybe depends on how they market it? Man from UNCLE did reasonably well at the box office and critically, so I think that Bond could fly if the script was good. Personally I'm with you in that I prefer Craig's Bourne style.

Thought I read somewhere that Elba was not interested in being James Bond. Could be wrong though.

I don't want to sound like I have it out for the guy, but I think Cavill is pretty wooden. His charming Napoleon Solo came across as snarky or snobby at times because he essentially had the same delivery on every line. Also, that film cost $75M and brought in $109M. Opened 3rd in the box office IIRC.

He certainly looks the part though. I like the guy, but I think he's a bit too bland to be James Bond. Then again, I can't remember many scenes where Daniel Craig was particularly suave or charming. More... forward. Like when he banged that sex-trade victim or that widow, moments after her husband's funeral.

Is this some kind of joke I'm not getting? The dude was born and raised in Scotland and is part of the SNP.

Yeah, you're right. I'm not sure who I'm thinking of. Some British actor that's Welsh, not English/Irish/Scottish.

I'd like to see Idris Elba.

On another note, I hate it when people say things like this...

quote:
Craig, who last year said he would rather "slash my wrists" than agree to another Bond film, told bosses it "just wasn't what he wanted" despite bosses throwing "huge amounts of money at him", a source said.

Really, you'd "slash your wrists" rather than make another bond film? Despite the fact that it made you a household name and despite the fact that the studio stuck with you after a backlash when you were announced? How about graciously turning down an offer if you don't want to do it?

Interesting. Never knew that. Talk about opposite directions between those choices.

Cavill is good, but I think he's too Roger Moore-ish. I'm not sure that will play as well these days...especially following the 'rebirth' of Bond in the Craig years.

While I'm normally all for trying certain roles from a female perspective, Bond is one of those I just can't get behind. But if I had to get behind a female Bond, Emily Blunt would be my choice.
